Chapter 139 The Guardian
GOLD PACK
Jovy sat down staring into space and her heart ripped out with each passing second. She was sure the Moon Stone had been kept safely in there and she had been sure to not allow anyone know of the password except her. How then did it go missing?
Beta Kyrian and Jovy returned to the living room as it appeared the study seemed suffocating. Harry hissed out loud. He had suspected something fishy was going on the moment his spy had called him. There was no doubt Xavier knows something which was why he didn’t care about calling Nadia late in the night and he had ordered her to fly back to the pack by morning.
The front door opened letting in Nadia with a flushed face. “What is going on?” She asked, rubbing at a dazed looking Jovy’s back.
“Xavier has eloped with the Moon Stone.” Harry blurted out.
Jovy’s head jolted up. “No, Xavier knows nothing about it. I am very sure. I never told him the password.”
“Why is his line not going through?” He asked.
“He might be in a meeting of some sort!” Nadia was the one who responded. “What is it with you and Xavier? Why would you accuse him of something so outrageous?”
Harry exhaled. He beckoned towards a maid who had been standing there all along. “I will explain something you both don’t know about. Myself and Anastasia aren’t just haters of Xavier. This is all for a reason. Some years back before Anastasia left the pack house, she had come to confide in me about something crucial. And-”
“Why you and not me?” Nadia cut in.
“Act your age, Nadia and just listen. I am her godfather and she could definitely come to me.” Harry looked angry. “Eight years ago when Anastasia was still so hung up on Xavier, she came to me to talk about something she heard him telling the witch girl.”
“The witch girl? You mean Savannah?” Nadia chipped in. Beta Harry nodded his head. “But Marcel already told him to stay away from her a long time ago.”
“Well, he never did and just so you know the both of them are still together as we speak. Anastasia heard him talking about how he plans to become the Alpha at all cost and not caring about what might become of everyone. She was shocked at how ambitious he was and was more hurt when it turns out he was only staking on Anastasia just incase Marcel intends to change his mind about making him Alpha.”
Jovy gasped lightly. “I am not sure I know who she is. But it only mean that he had always wanted the Savannah lady.”
Harry shook his head in agreement. “Yes, and he has fooled you too. I can bet it with you that he eloped with the Moon Stone.”
“But why would he do that?” Nadia and Jovy blurted at the same time.
“It can only mean one thing, you, Jovy might have been acting different towards him.” Harry replied.
Jovy scratched the back of her neck. “We haven’t exactly mated.”
Nadia gasped out. “What? It has been three weeks since your engagement, why is that?”
Jovy flushed with guilt as she made an attempt to lie. “I just wasn’t ready yet.’
“I guess he was running out of time and wasn’t too sure of what you might do next. He didn’t want to risk it.”
“How do you know all of this?” Nadia still wasn’t convinced with Harry’s assertions. She had been dialing Xavier’s line since she returned and it still was unavailable.
Harry snorted when he noticed Nadia’s hand on her phone. “It’s of no use Nadia, he isn’t coming back. This is Veronica, she is a warrior and also the spy I installed in the house as directed by Marcel before his death and she has all of the evidence that points to Xavier. She had called me last night to tell me about Xavier leaving the house with Savannah in tow. It felt suspicious because of the moves he had made around the house before leaving. Show them Veronica.”
Nodding her head, Veronica brought out a tablet from her large pockets, she keyed in the password and handed it over to the women. Jovy and Nadia watched in disbelief as Xavier sneaked into Jovy’s room. He took his time before coming back out and the next pictures was him leaving with the said lady.
Jovy pulled at her hair, she had been fooled yet again. Nadia couldn’t believe her ears and eyes. All her life she had vouched for Xavier and even disbelieved her own daughter because of him.
“Why did Anastasia keep it to herself for so long? She didn’t tell her mother nor me.” Jovy felt betrayed.
“Xavier is quite the dangerous type and Anastasia was smart enough to not tell words when there was no exact evidence. Marcel loved the boy but he was suspicious a year before his death and didn’t mind giving in to my plea to keep a tab on him.” Harry explained.
“If you didn’t tell him about the stone, how then did he get the password Jovy?” Nadia asked.
Harry waved a dismissive hand. “Don’t worry your pretty head, Luna. You can never be too careful near that kind of person. They would always be ahead of you if you aren’t suspicious of them.”
Jovy felt disappointed in herself for trusting so blindly yet again. It had always been her shortsightedness that lands her in the deepest of troubles. She suddenly felt light headed, the ground swayed underneath her and uncertain of what was happening to her, she gripped the edges of the couch tightly to keep still.
For a week now, she has been experiencing morning tiredness and sleeping late into the morning. But it could all be blamed on how busy she had been and not to forget her worried mind too.
“Are you alright, Jovy?” Nadia asked, noticing her discomfort.
“I’m fine.” Jovy responded hastily. She looked towards Harry. “How dangerous is it that the Moon
Stone is missing?”
Harry exhaled. “It is very dangerous cause the entire werewolf race is in your hands Jovy. If it is not found and falls in the wrong hands we will be subjected to different calamity. And I tell you the Gold pack will be labeled as the black sheep.”
“This is bad.” Nadia mused.
“How do we get it back?” Jovy inquired.
“There is only one trusted assigned guardian of the Moon Stone and only him can help retrieve it.”
“Who is this guardian? And where can we find him? How long would it take?” Jovy questioned frantically.
“The guardian is the Alpha of the Mystic Shadow Fortress, Logan Odell.”
At the mention of his name Jovy’s heart thumped beyond normal. “Do you mean there is no one else to reach out to?”
“He is the most trusted assigned guardian to the Moon Stone for this decade.” Harry affirmed.
“Only Alpha Logan can help us out and we need to find it this same week because the Annual Werewolf Pack Meeting is next week and without the Moon Stone such meeting cannot hold.”
Doom was the continuous whisper resounding in Jovy’s ear. She was no longer herself, making an attempt to stand up she found herself falling back into the couch and she blacked out immediately.
“Jovy!” Nadia screamed. The entire space became chaotic as they tried to revive her. Harry called the infirmary and the Theta arrived in less than ten minutes to check her.
Beta Harry stood by the door, blaming himself for telling Jovy how everything would be if the Moon Stone isn’t found. She has only taken charge of the Alpha post recently and still new to it all. He should have kept a closer look on Xavier.
“What is wrong with her?” Nadia asked in a worried tone.
The Theta looked around. “Can I talk to you privately please?” She said to Nadia.
Nadia motioned at Beta Harry and the maids to leave. When they were left alone Nadia stared eagerly at the Theta. “Is she going to be okay?”
“She would be. I don’t want what I would say to be taken wrongly or just incase she still intends to keep it to herself. But from the look of it she might be pregnant. However, I will check again at the hospital and get back to you. She would be awake soon.” The Theta said.
“What did she say?” Beta Harry asked after the Theta left.
Nadia sighed. “She is fine. She has just been stressed lately. The Theta says she needs to rest.”
“Alright. I will head to the army base and ask for the entire pack to be searched. Xavier couldn’t have gone that far and telling Alpha Logan might be us exposing ourselves far too soon. I will return.” He said before bidding her goodbye.
Jovy didn’t wake up until late afternoon. She blinked severally feeling her eyes clouded. Seeing her move, Nadia stood up in a hurry from the couch to pour her a glass of water. Jovy gulped down the whole liquid at a goal and she leaned against the bed frame.
“What happened?” She asked.
“You passed out.” Nadia paused, sitting next to Jovy as she caressed her hand. “Jovy, I want you to know that you are a daughter to me and I would never be part of anything that would hurt you. The Theta mentioned a possibility of you being pregnant, your blood sample should be in the lap right now.” She paused to let Jovy say something but nothing came from her. “And you mentioned not mating with Xavier. So, how did you come by that?”
Fear gripped at Jovy’s heart, the tears flowed uncontrollably and there was no hiding place anymore. She sniffed. “I hope you would be able to forgive me for this, Nadia. I didn’t tell you about my marriage. The truth is I had been married off to the Alpha of the Mystic Shadow Fortress.”
Nadia remained calm. “Alpha Logan?”
“Yes. However, he treated me like trash and made my life miserable. I almost lost my life twice and didn’t realize how dangerous it was for me to keep living with him until I was fighting for my life the second time and he never thought to check on me. This is the reason I took the bold decision of relocating to the Gold pack. However…” She sniffed, hiccuping as the tears mounted. “I got the idea to revenge on him and hit him hard in his finances and this prompted us to set eyes on each other again. I realized I was still hung up on him but that wasn’t going to stop me from teaching him a lesson. Until he came around the night before my engagement, pissed at my new marriage arrangement, we had sex and he marked me.”
Nadia exhaled deeply as she pulled gently at her hair. “Was that why you insisted on the long sleeve dress?”
Jovy nodded still sobbing. “Yes.”
Nadia was about to say something when she heard her phone beep of a message notification. Reading through the content, she look up at Jovy with a forced smile on her face. “You are pregnant, Jovy.”
