Chapter 137 The Sound
THREE WEEKS LATER
Nadia sipped her tea, dipping a cookie in her mouth as she flipped through the magazine in her hand. She had resorted to relaxing by one of the living room couches. Her side eye caught Xavier making his way to the door. He must have been engrossed in his thoughts to not have noticed her.
“Xavier!” She called out.
Xavier cursed under his breath and he let out a low sound that showed that his wolf was grumpy. He was in no mood to have any pretentious conversation. But then, he couldn’t be pissed at his aunt.
Xavier faked a smile as he turned to her. “Good afternoon, aunt. I didn’t see you there.”
Nadia snorted. She could tell he was in no mood to talk. However, she has been wondering if the complete members of the family still lived in the pack house. Aside her brief discussion with Jovy and Xavier the next day after their engagement, she hasn’t seen much of the couples.
“Come here, let me talk to you for a second.” She urged.
Making his way towards her, he sat his butt rigidly by the tip of the couch close to her. “I hope this won’t take time. I need to run some pack errands.”
“It won’t. I just want to ask if everything is going on well between you and Jovy?”
Xavier raised a brow. “Why did you ask?”
“I haven’t seen much of you both around and it just makes me worried. You know you can talk to me if anything is wrong.”
He waved a dismissive hand. “I promise we are both okay. It’s just a busy time concerning the matters of the pack but don’t worry it will all be resolved soon.”
Nadia decided to back off the discussion and not do too much since the both of them are clearly adults. She smiled tightly. “Alright then, you should head out now. Also, I would be traveling to Bahamas and my flight is this evening. I already told Jovy about it.”
“Oh, that’s nice aunt. You have fun.” He stood up, bowed slightly before walking out.
Xavier slapped his steering wheel hard and almost caused blood to gush out from his palm at the consistent hit. His anger was beginning to get the best of him. It has been exactly twenty one days since he got engaged to Jovy. According to tradition, the both of them should have spent their first night together. Instead, he practically hasn’t seen Jovy. It’s obvious she was avoiding him intentionally. To make it worse her door suddenly remains locked at night and before he got out of bed in the morning she was already out of the house.
Something was wrong and he needed to know cause his chances of becoming Alpha seem to be thinning out and he definitely wouldn’t forgive Jovy if she jeopardizes his entire plan. He didn’t want to conclude so fast, the thought of her being with someone else didn’t seem right. Aside the two men who had visited the study that day, no other odd person had been seen with her.
“Calm down, Xavier.” He told himself. She should be at the office and he would have to get her to talk to him. He turned on the car ignition and drove out of the pack house.
Jovy chewed on her bottom lip hard as she tried to think of the best possible way to deal with Logan. She needed to do something really tough that would cause him to crumble and she couldn’t think of anything else but cause a major calamity to the Mystic Shadow Fortress. It was what he deserves for messing around with her.
Every time she thinks about Xavier her heart jolts almost like the guilt of cheating on him wouldn’t let her find peace. And she seem to be obviously avoiding him with the constant excuse she has been giving. Not to forget her intentional giving of draining task to keep him busy and away from her. She wouldn’t be surprised if he begins to suspect something else for real. Still no matter how much she tried, the thought of Logan never leaves her mind. It was worse that she has been subjected to wearing covered tops and dresses to keep the mark Logan left from showing. It appeared to be a really deep gash which can’t go unnoticed.
Her stream of thought was brought to a halt when the door to her office opened. Her heart almost stopped working when she looked up to see Xavier at the door. Xavier was quick to notice the shock on her face before she masked it with a sweet smile.
“Hey you.” She muttered
He remained unfazed. “I don’t have much time to waste and nothing much to say to you. I just have one question, why have you been avoiding me?”
Jovy’s eyes darted around the room, she felt cornered. “Avoiding you? How?” She chose to play oblivious.
A scoff escaped Xavier’s lips but he tried to play cool. Taking a deep breath, he pulled out a chair to sit in while trying to soften his look. “Hey, is there something that I have done wrong? If it’s something I did, let me know. I don’t like how much we have drifted apart since the engagement.”
Guilt tugged at Jovy’s heart, she couldn’t help but admit to her wicked heart that never thought of how much she was letting her past haunt her future. “I’m so sorry, Xavier. I guess it’s all just a misunderstanding. I have been really busy lately and I am sure you have been busy too. I promise to make it up to you as soon as all of this is over.” She made a cute face at him.
Xavier let out a sigh as he stood up. “Alright.” He nodded his head while he walked around to get closer to her. He made an attempt to kiss her on the lips but instead she turned her cheeks to him. Gritting his teeth, he smiled tightly at her before holding back out and he left his eyes trailed the wall. Jovy cursed at herself for being too shaky and she couldn’t even retain a kiss. How then was she suppose to have sex with him? She pulled at her hair almost yanking it from the scalp when he left the room.
After the day’s work, Xavier kissed his teeth as he source for the play sound of the recorder he had placed in Jovy’s office. He had totally forgotten about it because of the little trust he had in Jovy. He noticed that she appeared really naive and didn’t seem like someone who would refute her promise.
However, the rule of life that states anyone can change still remains. He had waited for everyone to leave the office before he settled in to listen. Something tells him there would be some sort of conversation that he needs to hear just like the time the Moon Stone had been discussed and hidden from him.
Playing the recording, nothing seem out of place except Jovy’s consistent asking of Rebecca to trail a certain Alpha. It had nothing to do with him so he skipped that. He was about to skip another one when Jovy’s moans caught his ears. His eyes rounded like saucers at the entire conversation and he even had to hold down his hard dick with the loud moans.
“Fuck!” He screamed.
Jovy had really taken him on a dumb ride. There is no way he was going to let that slide. He either becomes Alpha or no one else does.
