Chapter 111 The Dictator
GOLD PACK
Hanging up the phone in excitement, Amelia almost jumped out of her skin when she turned around to find her mother staring at her keenly. Ava stood in her intimidating frame with her arms folded against her chest.
“You scared the living daylights out of me mom, what is all of this about?” Amelia hollered at her.
“Who were you talking to on the phone?”
Amelia couldn’t resist the urge to scoff at her mother’s face. Ever since she had allowed her back into her life, Ava has been trying to act her bossy self which doesn’t sit well with Amelia. After Amelia had heard from Jovy as told by Alice that Ava had become a laughing stock at the Midnight pack, she couldn’t just leave her by herself. After doing all she could to find her, Ava finally joined her at the Gold pack. Despite everything that had happened to her, Ava still wasn’t over her usual attitude which only puts Amelia on the edge. She wasn’t interested in letting her mother control her life like before.
“What right do you have to ask me?” Amelia retorted.
Ava glared at her. “Did I just hear you talk to that witch, Jovy? She is the reason our family went apart. It is all her fault that you have become so cold towards me.”
Amelia stared in disbelief, wondering if her mother was in her right frame of mind and isn’t experiencing dementia. The most shameful part of Ava’s escapade is finding out that Amelia had been living under her own biological father’s nose for years without any form of acknowledgement.
She kissed her teeth. “You are really one to talk mom. When would you own up to your mistakes and stop blaming other people for everything that you did by yourself? Was it Jovy that made you cheat on Tommy? Was it Jovy that pushed you to father a child with the Alpha and still keep sleeping with him despite being married? You are the true witch here mom. All you ever do is sync people into your devastating whirlpool and still claim to be the only true person.”
Ava let out an angry snort. “Don’t you dare talk to me like that. It’s only because of me that you have whatever it is you have been able to acquire today. And for your information, Elena and her horrible daughter Jovy would always be the obstacle on my path. I am definitely going to assert revenge with no remorse.”
Amelia scoffed. “You have lost your mind, I can tell. I can’t believe I looked up to you as a role model. You should be ashamed of yourself mom cause you are definitely nothing to write home about. And I feel really pained that I am your daughter and once a faithful follower of yours.” She exhaled. “A quick briefing, this is my house. I pay the rent and foot the bills and don’t forget to add that I saved your broke ass. If you make a mess right here, I won’t mind sending you back out to the streets. I have had enough of you. Jovy is my sister, I don’t care whatever it is you think about her anymore. That’s your problem. But you won’t dictate to me, who I should or shouldn’t talk to.”
Amelia glared at Ava before walking out of the house. She was getting tired of having her mother around but it was obviously too late for her to send her out. If only she had kept to the promise she made to herself to never communicate with her again. But can a daughter be blamed? She had only wanted to save her mother from the miserable life her past actions and decisions had subjected her to.
Getting into her car, the tears Amelia had been trying to hold back let themselves out. She felt unlucky having someone as selfish and inconsiderate as Ava for a mother. It would have been fair if she had no mother. Her reality would have been easy to accept, knowing she wouldn’t have to carry the burden of Ava all her life. Igniting the car, she drove through the streets and made her way to the train station. Her excitement had diminished the moment her mother probed her. Amelia would never understand the hate Ava harbors against poor Jovy. Knowing how much Jovy had been subjected to all because of them, Amelia still couldn’t forgive herself.
“It’s not your fault.” Her wolf whispered to her.
Amelia wiped off her tears as she tried to focus on why she had been happy. Jovy had called three days back to inform her of her final decision to leave Logan. Amelia had been really worried about Jovy when she found out about her last accident after losing a child barely two months before then.
She had even made a move to get down to the Mystic Shadow Fortress to stay with Jovy but Arlo had told her to not worry and he assured her of Jovy’s safety. Now that Jovy had finally come to the realization that the Alpha is no good for her, it made Amelia proud of Jovy.
Her hands held the steering wheel tightly in excitement as she neared the train station. Jovy was right at the arrivals looking around shyly. “Jovy!” Amelia yelled as she ran up to her and pulled Jovy into a tight hug almost depriving her of a breathing space.
Jovy laughed into the embrace even as she held Amelia back lightly. “If you hold onto me so tightly I might end up not getting home with you.”
They both laughed and let go of each other. “It’s so nice to see you.” Amelia said.
“Thanks for having me.” Jovy muttered with a bright beam on her face.
Amelia waved her hand in dismissal and carried the other bag Jovy had with her. The both of them headed towards the spot Amelia had parked her car.
“Are you sure you wouldn’t prefer to stay at mine?” Amelia inquired as she drove out of the train station.
Amelia had sounded happy when Jovy had called to say she was relocating to the Gold pack. She had thought Jovy was coming to stay with her but Jovy had insisted on Amelia getting her an apartment. Luckily they found one two streets away from Amelia’s house.
Jovy laughed. “I already paid for the house. I can’t go back on it now.”
“They can definitely do a refund. Won’t you feel all alone? I mean…being your first tine. Perhaps you don’t want to stay with me because of my mum?” She bombarded her with questions.
Jovy rubbed at her forehead. “As for the loneliness, I will get used to it. And this has nothing to do with Ava. I promise. I just really need this moment to myself.” She explained. “At the same time, we aren’t so far from each other which makes it easier that way.”
Amelia sniffed. “I get it. I know you are really tired and I guess hungry too. How about I treat you to a nice Gold pack special.” She winked.
As if on cue, Jovy’s belly made a loud growl. “I can’t turn it down now, I guess.” She laughed with Amelia joining in.
