Chapter 110 Point of realization
MYSTIC SHADOWS FORTRESS
THREE WEEKS LATER
Jovy sat up on the hospital bed waiting for Arlo to finish up with the paperwork to take her home. She has been trying really hard to hold back the tears threatening to fall, most especially she wouldn’t want Arlo to meet her in such state but they keep coming. Her tears isn’t that of sadness but of anger and frustration and the thoughts swirling in her head made her feel dizzy. It had taken her a second shot at death to realize that it was time to get a life and move on from her misery.
For three weeks, Logan didn’t bother to call or visit her at the hospital despite him being the reason she ended up at the verge of death. His excuse as Jovy had heard from Arlo was that she wasted his time by not sending the file in quickly. So he acting unconcerned about her predicament was his way of punishing her.
Before now, whenever Alice, Amelia and Arlo bring up the topic of her leaving Logan, Jovy has always defended him. She had been worried sick about leaving him behind. And even though they all offered to be of help, she still couldn’t stand the thought of being a leech on any of them. However, the Moon Goddess seem to have finally answered her earnest prayer by touching Tommy’s heart to make good the few moments of his life before death to secure a future for her. It made Jovy feel secured, knowing if she leaves Logan her life would still be meaningful.
The door opening jolted her out of her train of thought. Arlo appeared with a bright smile on his face. “We can leave now?” She inquired.
Arlo nodded his head happily as he pulled her into his embrace. “If only you know how happy I am knowing you would be free from all the shots and tubes your body was subjected to for almost a month.”
Jovy leaned further into him. She sighed. “I am just as glad as you are. It has been a long time. Let’s go please, I can’t stand this room for another minute.”
“Sure.” Arlo grinned. He helped Jovy with her bag. “Guess who is coming to pick us.” He said as they neared the exit.
Jovy’s heart jumped. She hoped it would be Logan. Even though she had finally made up her mind, but she still hasn’t told Arlo yet with the hope that Logan might plead with her one last time. If only he does that she would definitely stay back.
“Uncle Kyrian is here.” Arlo grinned from ear to ear.
“Oh.” She mumbled with a drained energy.
Arlo pretended not to notice the disappointment in her voice. For days since the doctor announced her discharge, he had sensed how deep in thought Jovy had been as of late. He would have asked her in his usual way of caring about her, but Arlo didn’t want to intrude on her privacy every time and knowing it would demean her ability to make decisions by herself. What he hopes for is that she eventually does the right thing for herself.
Kyrian was by the car holding up a thin smile with dark shades on. “Jovy.” He called out, hugging her. “I am so glad to know you are hale and hearty.”
“Thanks for always showing up. I am really grateful for your help.” Jovy said in a sincere tone.
Kyrian noticed the sadness in her eyes and the way they lingered on the road like she was expecting something to pop up anytime soon. He was forced to take off his shades. “I’m sorry, Jovy. He is out of the pack for a business deal and won’t be back until next month.”
Arlo scoffed in irritation. “Why am I not surprised? I should have known he would do that…so evil.”
“Arlo.” Kyrian called out, making a scornful face.
“Don’t do that. Jovy is not a baby and she is at the receiving end of it all. She was just fighting for her life few weeks ago and he had the guts to leave for a business trip. That’s just great.” Arlo countered.
Jovy tuned out of the conversation to realign her decision. She could feel it in her that returning to Logan’s home would only spell doom for her and that might finally mark the end of her life. The escape she had once seek to take when living with her said father and his family had finally reached its fulfilling state. She cleared her throat to get both men’s attention and they turned to her, their eyes a mixture of sympathy and shame.
“I would like to thank you, Beta Kyrian. I don’t know how I would have coped through all of this if you were the same as the Alpha. I had been stupid to think he would come for me or feel sorry for putting me through so much pain. But now I know it is obvious his hate for me knows no bounds. All I have ever felt towards him was love despite everything.” Jovy closed her eyes to take in a long breath.
“I have decided that I would leave and go far away from here to start a new life for myself. I can’t keep living like this and wallowing in self pity. There is a need for me to spread my wings. I don’t think I am obligated to him or the pack to stay till my life becomes a misery. And whatever deal you had is with my old pack which I no longer belong to. You can hold the Alpha responsible for Logan’s new partner. I will no longer be part of all this.” She said with finality in her tone.
Arlo stared at her like a proud father. He had no idea Jovy had been thinking hard on it. Just when he was still worrying over how to convince her to stand up for herself, she just made the decision!
“I am so proud of you, Jovy.” He muttered.
Kyrian Inhaled. “Jovy, I have never been a part of how he treated you from the beginning. And because of you, we have had more fights than I can remember in all the years that we have been friends. You are just like Arlo to me and I don’t think I would be able to help it if you keep wallowing in this hurtful relationship. Jovy, whatever you decide on, I am in support of it and if you ever need anything please don’t hesitate to tell me about it.”
A tear rolled down Jovy’s face. “It was so nice meeting you. Thanks for everything.”
“Come here.” Kyrian pulled her into a hug.
Arlo patted her back when they got into the car. Kyrian dropped the both of them off at the house, saying he needed to get back to work. Jovy’s eyes watered the moment they stepped into the house. The memories of the first time she entered the house and the nights she had cried her eyes out feeling sorry for herself flooded her mind’s eye. But she didn’t want to be the pitiable person anymore. Instead, she would do as much as she can to get better and if fate shines its luck on her, it should make Logan pay for everything he did to her.
“What would you like to do?” Arlo asked.
“How about we pack those clothes sitting upstairs…after all it’s all meant to be mine.” Jovy said with a huff.
Arlo beamed, high-fiving her. “That’s the spirit! Go girl.” He commended.
The both of them made their way to Jovy’s room, choosing to raid everything Logan sponsored with his money.
