Chapter 101 The Irresponsible Alpha
MYSTIC SHADOWS FORTRESS
For the second time in a day, Arlo missed the chance of getting a fine ticket for his rough driving. None of the men he had tried calling had picked his call. They seem to be exceptionally busy and it worried Arlo that he might not meet any of them at the office. Passing by Kyrian’s office, Arlo made his way straight to Logan’s office and when he attempted to barge in the secretary held him back.
“What is all of this about? Why are you preventing me from entering? Have you forgotten who I am?”
The secretary swallowed hard. “Please, sir Arlo, the Alpha personally warned me to not let anyone in unless he gives the order.”
“Then tell him that I want to see him. It has to do with life and death. What in the world can he be doing that would prevent him from seeing anyone?” Arlo bickered. His eyes searched that of the secretary’s and his anger went on a burning rise. There was no need telling what might be going on behind the closed door. Arlo already knows it.
“Get out of my way.” Arlo said.
The secretary shook her head in disapproval. “I’m sorry but I can’t let you in. This was a strict warning.”
“I won’t repeat myself again, leave the way!” He growled.
A whimper escaped her lips when she realized it’s no use trying to hold the man back. “Alright.” She mumbled.
Storming towards the door, Arlo pushed it open with all of his strength and his wolf coming up to the surface as he scanned the room. Logan stood behind the table thrusting hard into a screaming lady bent over the table.
Arlo hissed in irritation. “Is this why you weren’t picking your calls?!”
Logan stared at him calmly but still keeping his position. “As you can see and I am sure you must have been told that I am busy. Leave, Arlo.”
“Jovy’s life is in danger.” Arlo mumbled.
There was no sign of reflection in Logan’s eyes. “Isn’t that why she has you? Go save her life since you act like her super hero.”
Arlo blinked tiredly with his shoulder slumped. “Please, she needs your signature.”
“Leave this office right this minute, Arlo. Don’t make me do something I might regret.” Logan warned, his eyes blazing with fire.
Realizing it’s of no use arguing further, Arlo wiped at the single tear that fell off his face and walked out of the office. He slammed the door violently with every power he could muster.
The secretary held his gaze. “I’m sorry.” She whispered.
Arlo tried to hide the tears forming in his eyes as he couldn’t think of any other way out. He couldn’t think of how much hate Logan might be harboring in his heart against Jovy. His heart went out to the poor girl.
Kyrian whistled tiredly towards Logan’s office. He had just left a Fortress council meeting after a quick meetup with the representatives of the packs in debt to the Mystic Shadow Fortress. He has had quite a long day and was returning to give Logan a feedback and head back home immediately.
Kyrian’s eyes shone widely when they landed on his nephew crying. “Arlo.” He called out, walking hurriedly towards him. “What’s wrong man?” Kyrian inquired with a worried look hovering on his face.
Seeing his uncle, Arlo leaned into the older man and sobbed hard. Kyrian held onto him tightly. He has never seen his nephew break down this bad. His eyes instinctively landed on the secretary who also looked like she was on the verge of tears.
“Talk to me, Arlo. What’s going on?” He asked again.
Arlo wiped his tears as he sniffed. “Jovy is at the verge of death…she’s dying.”
“What? What happened to her? Have you told Logan?” Kyrian bombarded him with questions as he made his way towards the office.
Arlo pulled him back and he shook his head. “It’s of no use uncle. He won’t respond.”
“What do you mean he won’t respond? Have you told him? What exactly is going on?” He questioned frantically.
“Jovy has an ectopic pregnancy and needs to undergo an urgent surgery to evacuate the child and save her life. But…before that they need the signature of her husband. I came down here straight from the hospital. And I met uncle Logan having sex with a stranger…and when I told him why I came…” He paused, more tears dropping down his face. “He told me to get out and go save her like I always do.”
“Really?!” Kyrian ran his hand through his hair. He couldn’t believe Logan would act this petty and it made him feel really disappointed. Kyrian jolted himself back to the situation at hand. He held Arlo by the hand.
“Do you have the document with you?”
Arlo nodded. “Yes…Yes I have it with me.”
“You know what? Let’s head down to the hospital together. I will stand in his place and sign the document.”
“Thank you so much uncle.” Arlo mumbled.
They both ran out of the building. When the both of them arrived at the hospital, there was a ruckus at the entrance of Jovy’s room but it died down few seconds later when the Theta’s eyes landed on Arlo. She didn’t look too pleased.
“I told you to hurry up with the signature. She is at the verge of losing her life if nothing is done right now.” The Theta said. When her eyes landed on Kyrian she bowed hurriedly. “I’m so sorry, Beta. I didn’t know you were here.”
Kyrian waved a dismissive hand. “You don’t need to worry. Can you go ahead with the operation, I would sign the papers right now.”
“As long as the Alpha approves it, definitely.” She added.
“Go ahead with the surgery.” Kyrian mumbled through gritted teeth.
Getting the memo, she got to work immediately while ordering her assistants around. Arlo sat down on the lone bench placed in front of her room and he tapped his feet on the hard ground. He jolted to his feet again when she got rolled out of the room for the operating room.
“Please let her be safe, I beg you.” He pleaded to the Theta.
The Theta pulled off her nose mask. “We would try our very best. Please excuse me.”
Arlo turned to Kyrian with heavy tears lacing his eyes. “If anything happens to Jovy, I would not spare Logan. I promise.” His shoulders shook from the tears.
Kyrian pulled him into a tight embrace. He also made a silent promise to himself to not forgive his irresponsible friend either.

SIX HOURS LATER
After what appears to be the longest hours of waiting for both men, the Theta finally stepped out of the operating room and her eyes meeting with that of the expectant men. They stood up in a hurry with their eyes questioning her.
She smiled at them.”She is safe now.”
Arlo heaved out heavily in relief. Kyrian nodded at the Theta “Thank you.”
“Can we see her now?” Arlo asked.
“No. But you can see her tomorrow morning. She needs to rest now.” The Theta responded before walking away.
Kyrian heaved a sigh of relief too. As if reading Arlo’s thought, their eyes met which meant they wouldn’t need to murder Logan after all.
