Chapter 100 It is dead
MYSTIC SHADOWS FORTRESS
Arlo jumped out the car after parking it haphazardly in front of the Fortress house. The guards stepped out of his way to let him into the house. When he searched around for Jovy and couldn’t find her, he ran up the stairs to her room.
He tried to open the door but it got stuck. Carefully, he looked down the door and his heart stopped at the sight of Jovy’s pale face on the floor. “Jovy!” He pushed the door carefully to avoid hurting her. “Jovy?” He patted her cheek lightly. He tried to wake her up. “Jovy? Can you hear me?”
Jovy parted her lips slightly as she tried to respond on a weak tone. Seeing it would be too much risk to still keep her without getting to the infirmary, Arlo lifted her up in one move and ran to the entrance with Jovy looking lifeless in his hands. Every member of the Fortress house had gathered in the living room at the sound of Arlo’s voice and some standing outside wondering what had gone wrong with the Luna.
Arlo placed her gently inside his car and he drove through the road like a maniac with his eyes going back and forth between Jovy and the road. He got to the infirmary in no time and Jovy was carried to the emergency room immediately. Arlo dialed Logan’s line while pacing back and forth on the waiting area but he wasn’t picking. He checked through his phone again to dial Kyrian but he wasn’t picking too. Seeing they might be busy, he dropped texts for each one of them writing about Jovy’s situation.
The door to the emergency room opened up, giving way to the Theta. A different one from the last time. Arlo moved swiftly in front of her. “How is she?”
“Oh, you were the one who brought in the young lady?” She inquired.
“Yes, ma’am.” Arlo responded hurriedly.
“Calm down, young man. She is stable now. She was just weakened by the pain that struck her. Can I talk to you in my office please?”
Arlo nodded his head in response and he walked behind her like a lost puppy. He closed the door behind him when they entered the office and his ears itched to hear what she has to say.
“Please sit.” The Theta said politely.
Not wanting to appear rude, Arlo sat down with his legs tapping the hard ground nervously. “Please, what is going on?”
The Theta sighed as she took off her glasses. “I am sorry to say this but she has an ectopic pregnancy and if not operated on immediately, her life is at risk.”
“What? How did that happen?” Arlo asked with his eyes bulging out of their sockets.
“There are several causes of ectopic pregnancy and it ranges from infection, endometriosis and a past history of infertility.” The Theta explained briefly.
None of her explanations seem to be understood by Arlo. He was more concerned about any sort of pain Jovy might be experiencing. Considering she is a latent wolf, it might make things harder for her to deal with.
The Theta cleared her throat to jolt him out of his thought. “We would need to do all that we can to save her life and that would include getting the agreement document downstairs where you append your signature on the surgery taking place.”
“Can it be signed by just anyone?” Arlo asked.
“It has to be her husband and I guess it’s you.”
Arlo cursed briefly under his breath. “Actually, can I take the document out with me?”
“It’s a confidential document and can’t be tampered with. It needs to be signed in the hospital premises.” She insisted.
Arlo wiped at the sweat on his forehead as he gulped hard. “Ma’am, that lady right there is the Luna of this Fortress and the wife of Alpha Logan. He won’t come here to sign any document. I need to take it to him.”
The Theta eyes bulged from their socket. “Oh my goodness! How did I miss that?!”
“I should have informed you at first. But I didn’t think it would be this serious and now that she requires urgent treatment it’s important I take the document to the Alpha as soon as I can.”
“I am really sorry for being so slow.” She pleaded. “Please, get the document downstairs and I would ensure we try to stabilize her as much as we can.”
“Can I see her first?” He asked.
“Sure. Definitely. It would be necessary to put her mind at rest that she would be fine.” The Theta added.
Standing up rigidly from the chair, Arlo tried to get himself together and be strong. He knows how much Jovy cherishes the fetus inside of her and how hopeful she had been on the child becoming her solace. He has no idea how much emotions she would feel when she does hear the news. It worries Arlo that his presence might not be enough to console her. After retrieving the document from the reception Arlo made his way to the room Jovy was kept in.
Her back was turned to the door and it sounds like she is crying. “Jovy.” He whispered.
Jovy stilled with her back turned, she wasn’t expecting him to enter yet. Knowing how bothered Arlo would be seeing her cry, she tried to keep her face straight and wiped the tears off in a rush.
Jovy turned to him. “You are here, Arlo.” She muttered in a coarse voice.
Arlo’s heart constrict at the sight of her. “How are you, Jovy?”
She tried to hold up a smile and lied through her teeth. “I’m fine. The painkillers worked wonders.”
Arlo sat next to her. He embraced her to himself and kissed her forehead. “You know what the Theta said?”
Jovy kept quiet for a long while before sniffing. “Yeah.”
“Jovy….” He whispered
She raised her head up to look at him. “It’s fine, Arlo. I can’t feel it inside of me anymore. I…I guess it’s dead.” She whispered.
Arlo stared in shock as he held her gaze. “I am sorry.”
Turning her head to the side, she tried to keep herself from crying but the tears fell freely down her face. “I thought this would be my way out and I can finally have something and someone to hold on to. But it seem the Moon Goddess has a thing against me being happy and couldn’t resist the urge to take my child away from me.” Jovy sobbed. She kissed her teeth when she felt a harsh pain strike at her pelvic. She grabbed the edge of the bed.
Arlo sat up in alert. “Does it hurt?”
“Yeah…it hurts really bad, Arlo.” Jovy wailed louder.
Arlo stood up in a hurry. “I am coming, alright. The pain would be all gone in no time. I just need to get the Alpha to sign this. Just hold on till I return.” He kissed her forehead. “I won’t stay too long. I promise.”
Arlo walked away from her and ran towards the exit. She watched his receding back. Jovy couldn’t hold back the flood of tears any longer and she wailed continuously while trying hard to endure the pain surging through her body.
