Chapter 99 Severe pains
MYSTIC SHADOWS FORTRESS
Jovy groaned in pain as she tried to stand up from the bed while trying to lift her shoulder. A sharp string of pain struck her shoulder blade and it almost made her fall back into the bed. For a week, she has been experiencing constant shoulder pains but however it practically relieves her in few seconds after the pain effect.
Standing up with a cautious hand underneath her belly, Jovy made her way to the bathroom and she hissed at the sight of the light blood in her panties. Considering her pregnant state, there shouldn’t be any form of bleeding and at the same time she couldn’t be too sure. Also, there was no exact pain and that made her feel like it might be normal.
Jovy hasn’t been to the infirmary ever since she found out about her pregnancy few weeks ago. Due to Logan’s restriction, she can’t leave the house without his permission and he is hardly home. They never get to see each other and it got worse since she fell pregnant. Arlo who would have been of help has been too busy with college. And Jovy refused to seek for Kyrian’s help cause she hasn’t forgotten how Logan had taunted her about calling his friend whenever she feels like.
Checking herself in the mirror for the first time in a long while, Jovy beamed brightly from the joy she felt in her heart at the thought of a life growing inside of her. Her heart was already filled with love for the child. Rubbing at her belly, she made a silent promise to herself to love, cherish and protect her child from any harm even if that requires her own life.
Jovy heaved a sigh as she washed herself up for the day. Her phone rang loudly which caused her to move a bit faster than normal. She noticed that every of her move felt painful but she ignored it. A wide smile spread out on her face at the caller.
‘Hey there, Alice.’
Alice coughed abruptly on the other line. ‘How are you doing, Jovy? Do you have a minute?’
Jovy sat up on the bed. ‘I have a hour, all you need to do is ask.’ She giggled.
‘Ok. I know you might not get this. But there is something you need to know.’
Jovy tried not to roll her eyes. It’s unlike Alice to sound all serious. She should have suspected it when her greetings weren’t exactly sound. ‘What’s going on?’
‘You don’t have to panic. It’s nothing serious. But during the week an unknown lady visited me. She said she knew Tommy and has something important to give to you. I ignored her at first but she told me it would be of great help to you.’
‘I thought dad was dead?’
‘He is dead, Jovy. But, whomever this woman is, she knows you well enough. Also, I asked how she got my contact and she said it took her a while to get to me as no one really knows much about you around. So, she went to school to snoop.’
‘That sounds desperate to me.’ Jovy mumbled with her voice shaky.
‘Is there a way we can schedule a meeting for you to meet with her? All she asks is for me to help her reach you.’ Alice asked.
Jovy squeezed her face in worry. ‘What is her name? Or she didn’t leave one?’
‘Oh! She did! She said…Linda. She mentioned that she was your father’s secretary.’ Alice replied.
Jovy’s memory jogged back into space and she did remember who Linda really is. There had been a number of times Ava and Tommy have had series of argument over the latter having an affair with his secretary, Linda. What Jovy can’t seem to understand is why Linda intends to see her when they have never been in the same space together before.
‘Are you still there, Jovy?’ Her friend asked, sounding more worried due to her long silence.
‘Sorry about that, Alice. I’m just shocked at her urgent need to see me. Is there a way you can reach out to Arlo? He would get her to me.’
Alice slapped her forehead. ‘Oh! How did I forget that? I guess that works just fine.’
‘Do you think whatever she has to say would be important to me?’
‘Jovy, if she went as far as fishing me out just to find you, then, I guess it’s important. Also, Arlo would be there to protect you if she acts funny.’ Alice responded.
‘Please, call Arlo and let him know about it. I will call him too.’ She sucked in her teeth.
‘Are you okay, Jovy? Why do you sound like you are in pain?’
Jovy shut her eyes tightly as the pain subsided. She cleared her throat. ‘I am okay, you don’t have to worry.’
‘Are you sure? Do you need to see a doctor?’ Alice kept on with the questioning.
‘I promise, I am fine. You don’t need to worry about me.’ Jovy chuckled nervously as sweat beads circled her forehead.
‘Alright, then. I will call Arlo and talk to you later. Please take care.’ Alice said before hanging up.
Jovy gasped loudly as she gripped the edge of the bed with the attempt of suppressing the pain she was feeling in her pelvic bone. Jovy took in a deep breath as she tried to steady herself. The pain subsided again which caused her to lean gently into the bed. She wiped at the beads of sweat on her forehead while huffing and panting loud. Whatever the consistent pain is, she would need to visit the infirmary as soon as she can.
Jovy picked up her cellphone to dial Arlo. She was about to give up on the fourth ring when he eventually picked the call.
‘I am so sorry, Jovy. I wasn’t in the room when the phone rang. Are you okay?’ He asked.
Her breath came out in soft pants. ‘I really don’t know what it is, Arlo. But, I would like for you to please come take me to the infirmary.’
Arlo’s eyes went wide. ‘What happened? Is something wrong with you and the baby?’
Jovy chuckled weakly. ‘I guess we are fine. Just a little pain here and there.’
‘Alright, just wait up for me. I would be with you in a jiffy.’
Jovy’s throat felt dry. ‘Alright.’ She disconnected the call.
She looked to the side of her bed but the water pitcher was empty. Getting off the bed, she walked to the pitcher and grabbed it. All of a sudden, dizziness surrounded her as she made her way to the door. Her hand held onto the doorknob weakly in an attempt to hold herself back from falling. But Jovy collapsed to the floor and blacked out.
