Chapter 98 His terms and conditions
MYSTIC SHADOWS FORTRESS
Jovy inhaled and exhaled as she tried to get up the stairs after stuffing herself with a full plate of food. The hunger got the best of her and it even prevented her from taking it to the room along with her. Ever since she got to know about her pregnant state, Jovy has been excessively hungry and has been eating every thing she lays her hands on.
Opening the door to her room, she got there just in time to find her phone ringing out loud. She hurried her way towards it and a bright smile appeared on her face when the caller turned out to be Alice. She picked up the call only for her to breathed heavily into the receiver.
‘Alice! What happened? I have been so worried about you?’ She cooed.
Alice sighed into the receiver. ‘I’m so sorry, Jovy. I don’t know if you would ever forgive me. I had no intention to stay away for so long. We have had the most craziest four weeks of our lives ever.’
Jovy sat on the edge of the bed eagerly. ‘What happened?’
‘Jared got crazy and began to chase my mom and I up and down. Dad wasn’t exempted though.’
‘Why would he do that?’
‘Jared was in search of Amelia and he believed she had left the pack because we threatened her. He first began with mysterious calls and harassing me in school. We had to involve the law and it has been really crazy. It took us a while to know who the stalker was.’
‘I’m so sorry about that, Alice. I hope Jared has been locked away where he really deserves.’ Jovy sympathized.
‘Yes. Also…I want to ask…where is Amelia?’
Jovy inhaled. ‘She left. Also Alice, Amelia is sincerely sorry for everything she has caused you.’
Alice hissed. ‘How can you be so sure that slimy bitch is sorry for everything that she did?’
‘I know because she is trying really hard to be a better person, Alice. Please.’
‘Whatever.’
‘Perhaps did you hear anything about Amelia’s mother?’ Jovy asked.
‘Oh! Yes!’ Alice sounded excited to talk about the change of topic. ‘She is experiencing some hard time, Jovy.’
‘What do you mean?’ Jovy asked. She sounded worried.
‘Apparently, she has been cheating on your dad with the Alpha. After you left, Ava tried to escape but was caught up by the Luna and as rumor has it, the Luna is quite unstable in the head and definitely had Ava dragged around the pack. It has been quite a rough patch for your family. And…’ She stopped. ‘Never mind.’
There was a long pause on the other line that had Jovy a bit worried. ‘What are you not telling me, Alice?’ Jovy asked.
‘I don’t know how you would take this, Jovy. But whichever way, I think you deserve to know. ‘
‘What is it?’
‘Your father is dead.’ Alice announced after a minute of silence.
Jovy gasped out. ‘What?’
‘I know this might sound unfair of me but I don’t think you should get yourself worked up over the fate bestowed upon those two people. They deserve it all for everything they made you endure and did to you.’
‘What are you saying? Are you even listening to yourself right now? They were my family, Alice!’
‘A family that sold you off! Oh please, Jovy, don’t act foolish.’
Jovy sniffed. ‘I don’t know what I am feeling exactly. It just doesn’t feel right to mock their conditions. Even though they never treated me right, I still wish Ava well and may my father’s soul rest in peace.
‘Can we stop talking about them already? It’s making me feel depressed. I need something better.’ Alice whined.
A loud laugh escaped Jovy’s lips. It had been so long she has such joyful feeling. This was one of the reasons she cherishes Alice so much for being a pillar to lean on every time.
‘Fine, what do you want to talk about?’
‘You, of course.’ Alice stated like Jovy should know already. ‘Tell me all about you and everything that I have missed since I went AWOL.’
Jovy sighed. ‘I’m pregnant, Alice.’
‘What? How and why did you let that happen?!’
‘Because I am married.’ Jovy stated the obvious.
‘That isn’t what I am talking about and you know it. I am asking you how you let yourself get pregnant in such unfavorable environment?’
‘I couldn’t help the situation and I had no idea of what I was suppose to do.’ Jovy responded.
‘With how unhappy you sound, did he reject the pregnancy?’ When Jovy didn’t respond, Alice let out a string of colorful words. ‘I would really love to strangle that man!’
Jovy sniffed. ‘Well…I am hoping he would reconsider. He hasn’t said a word to me since I told him about the pregnancy.’
‘That son of a gun! What do you intend to do to it if he insist?’ Alice asked.
‘No matter what, I am keeping my child, Alice.’
‘Are you sure?’ Alice inquired sounding skeptical.
‘I have never been so sure about anything in my life like I am at this moment, Alice. I want this.’ Jovy said with finality in her tone.
‘You know I would always be in support with whatever decision you make, Jovy. I promise.’
Jovy burst out into sudden tears. ‘I won’t lie to you, Alice…It has just been a whole lot for me. I wish I was never born. I don’t know exactly what I did to deserve this sort of life.’ She wailed.
Alice heart cracked into pieces at the sound of despair in Jovy’s voice. She wished there was something she could do to help her overcome her trouble. ‘Stay strong, Jovy. I will pray to the Moon Goddess all day long to help protect and save you from the clutches of the monster Alpha. I’m so sorry that I can’t be there with you.’ Alice sniffed. She was crying too.
Jovy wiped her tears. ‘Don’t cry Alice. I would be fine, I promise. I am just so glad you are here now and I can call you whenever I chose to.’
‘I’ll always be here for you. So, tell me, how have you been coping?’
Jovy let out a loud sigh. ‘Well, you would be happy to know that I signed up for cooking classes.’
‘How did you get to do that?’
‘You would be surprised if I tell you this.’
‘Just spill it already.’
‘Arlo has been the one helping me. He gave me a laptop to help aid an easy class.’
Alice cooed. ‘Isn’t he so adorable?’ She took in a deep breathe and then paused. ‘Do you think it would have been better if you met Arlo first?’
Jovy stayed quiet. ‘I do think about it most times. But then again, there is nothing one can be too sure of. As long as I survive this, it would all be fine eventually.’
‘I haven’t seen him in a long while though. Now that I know I can reach out to you through him. I would be hustling some nice goodies to you.’
Jovy laughed. ‘You crazy girl, don’t send me anything implicating. I know you can do that.’
Alice grinned on the other line. ‘It’s how much you know me.’
‘How is your boyfriend?’
‘We haven’t been talking for a while now. But…I am guessing he is fine since I am fine too.’
‘Does it always have to be about you?’
‘That’s because I love me, boo!’ Alice huffed.
Jovy laughed her head off while holding up her belly as it rippled through her. She had missed Alice so much. Her laughter faded almost immediately when Logan stood by the door way with a blank look on his face.
“Meet me in my study.” He ordered.
‘That’s him?’ Alice asked.
‘Yeah.’
‘So you are leaving me to tend to him?’
Jovy pleaded with Alice to get off the phone to practically run after him. ‘I’ll talk to you later.’ She disconnected the call.
Jovy kept trying to search her head for any possible offense that she must have committed. It has been an entire week since she announced her pregnancy to Logan and he had not said a word to her since then. It bothered her that Logan would still insist on her getting rid of the pregnancy or even worst. What if he tries to abort the pregnancy himself in a bid to punish her for not listening to his instruction?
Jovy’s heart palpitated as she neared the study. She knocked slightly before opening the door. She walked stealthily into it. Logan had a sneer on his face as his eyes roamed her body. She looked more plump and her skin glowed better than he remembers.
Jovy was truly pregnant and the thought of it felt like a nightmare to him. He never thought he would witness a day like this to come. It had taken him a whole week to think through the words of Kyrian. Since it’s his usual niche, all he needs to do is pretend not to know about whatever it is going on with her and that would save him from having to stare at her protruding belly as time goes by and also to prove to Kyrian that he isn’t totally a monster.
“You asked me to come…Alpha.” She mumbled.
“And I can see you clearly. Sit.” Logan bellowed at her.
Jovy gulped hard. “Alright…Alpha.” Jovy managed to settle into the seat quickly without tripping off so she won’t annoy him in any way.
Logan scoffed. “About the discussion of the pregnancy, I would like to give you some rules of the only assured way to keep the pregnancy.”
Jovy looked up at him with heavy expectations in her eyes. When his cold distant eyes met with hers, she knew it was a mistake to have thought on it. “Yes…Alpha.” She mumbled.
“You would not for your own good, cross my path with that thing growing inside of you and that includes not making complaints to me when you feel some sort of pain or whatnot. There are maids at your disposal and since you enjoy calling Kyrian so much, you might as well put a call through to him when the need arises.”
Jovy didn’t fail to notice the bitterness in Logan’s tone. He obviously wasn’t playing. Whatever happened to him while he was growing must have taken a huge toll on him. She has never heard of anyone hating on their child except her father though and Logan inclusive. Probably, it’s a usual thing to happen. Her hands instinctively went to her not so obvious belly when Logan’s eyes stared in their direction. She could almost sense his eyes like they were daggers ready to pierce and tear out her growing fetus.
A sharp pain rushed to her shoulder and it almost caused her to grit in pain. But, Jovy was sensible enough to not show it to avoid Logan’s wrath. It was fair enough that he warned her before hand this time.
“I am warning you now because I won’t be repeating myself any further. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from me as much as you can. Am I clear?” Jovy nodded her head. “Leave.”
Logan watched her go with a deep level of disinterest. He cursed silently. Logan wondered what he was thinking to have slept with her in the first place. He hates how attached he is becoming towards her and the thought of her that makes him want to bury himself deep into her which is the main reason behind his consistent sour attitude and distance from Jovy.
Grabbing the bottle of tequila he had asked to be brought to him, Logan poured himself a glass and downed it in an instant. It burned down his throat making him grip the edge of his chair hard. Sometimes, Logan hates how emotions gets in the way of his thoughts. He clearly has a valid reason for every attitude he put out. Love would do nothing but hurt and break a soul. His dear mother had trusted and made herself vulnerable and that had led to the gruesome death she was subjected to.
Aside that, Logan had to admit that his worst enemy was Love and becoming affectionate. He feared loving anyone would expose him and make him weak. And that includes birthing a child. No parent would hate on his or her child and it’s a natural affection that you can’t seem to help. Logan could tell from the unexplainable affection he has towards Arlo and how protective he is of the boy. Imagining the birth of his own child would make him surrender everything he has ever worked for. Logan believes the only reason he is still in reign and being able to control several packs is because they have nothing to use against him. So rearing a family would give the enemy an upper hand on how to bring him down. They would attack the people he has chosen to love the most and that would be the beginning of his downfall. He couldn’t let that happen.
Logan’s eyes dimmed as he poured another glass down his throat. There was no need trying to explain himself to anyone. It would do nobody any good if he tries to explain that he isn’t so much of a monster as they like to believe. Leaning into the chair and throwing his head back memories of his tough childhood lingered in his head. There was no way he would have had to struggle so hard if his mother was alive. Another problem attached to bringing a child into a world filled with so much trauma.
What if he dies earlier than expected? Jovy can’t do anything to protect him or her cause she is weak herself and can’t protect herself. Keeping the child would only result to him making some hard decisions. On a second thought, not associating himself with her and the unborn child till its birth would enable him keep his emotions away and he wouldn’t have to feel any type of way.
Kyrian was right and Logan hate to admit it. He might hate to birth a child but that is the only way to keep the Fortress and his own legacy alive. He would definitely stay far away from Jovy as he can after she puts to bed. Logan can’t afford to keep seeing plenty of his minis and him living with the fear that those who hate him would take them away from him. Exhaling loudly, he swallowed another heavily filled glass.
Logan’s intention was to drink himself to stupor and have a long sleep that is deprived of nightmares.
