Chapter 97 A beast and a saint
MYSTIC SHADOWS FORTRESS
Kyrian woke up feeling exhausted after receiving Jovy’s call. He had been unable to sleep which prompted him to go for a run in the woods. Despite falling asleep the moment he got back to bed, he still felt like he had been beaten to pulp the night before.
“Someone looks like he needs to go back to bed.” Arlo teased when Kyrian sat by the dining table looking disoriented. He downed the cup of coffee that had been placed in front of him.
Kyrian sipped on the second cup before he decided to respond to his silly nephew. “I thought I trained you better. Is that how to greet your ever present uncle a good morning?”
Arlo rolled his eyes, pushed back the chair and stood up. He raised both of his hands and he bowed alongside his entire upper body. “All hail your Majesty.” He croaked.
Kyrian knocked him on the head as he also tried to keep himself from laughing. “Why are you such a silly goose?”
Arlo ended up laughing hard at his own joke as he returned to his seat. He dug into his plate of pancake further. “You asked for it.” He responded with a grin.
“You would never cease to amaze me, Arlo.”
“It’s all because I love you to a fault. So, tell me…what’s eating you up?”
Kyrian exhaled loudly. “I won’t lie to you, Arlo, I’m really getting tired of Logan’s excesses.”
“What did he do this time?”
“Did you know Jovy got pregnant?”
Arlo sniffed. “I was the one who took her to the infirmary for affirmation.”
“Fuck!”
“What?”
“I don’t want you involving yourself in this mess really.”
“You know that would never happen. Jovy is my friend and since her so called husband won’t be there for her, someone like myself has to be. I am not going to sit on the fence doing nothing.” Arlo fumed.
“Chill out, man. This doesn’t have to cause an argument between us. I was only saying what I feel should be the case. But, if Logan is fine with it then I don’t have a problem either.” Kyrian assured.
“He would have to let me in or it would loom trouble. What exactly is he saying about the pregnancy?”
“Calm your damn nerves, Arlo. They are married couple and there should be a limit to our interference. This is only happening because Logan has chosen to be an asshole.”
“That he is for certain.” Arlo mumbled under his breath.
“Watch your mouth. He is your uncle and most importantly the Alpha. I can have you punished on his behalf.”
“Yes sir.” Arlo mocked.
Kyrian punched him lightly on the shoulder. “As for the pregnancy, I don’t want to be too forward yet. But, I would have a talk with Logan today when I get to the office.”
“Please do so for the sake of the unborn child and for Jovy’s sanity.” Arlo mumbled before gulping his cup of tea in a hurry. He stood up. “Alright uncle, you choose to have a nice day. I am heading off to school.”
Kyrian snickered. “And you also choose to stay out of trouble.” He called back behind him.
“As long as it doesn’t find me.” Arlo replied as he exited the house.
Kyrian downed the tea and he stood up. He also left the house and got into his car. Driving through the busy streets of the Fortress, he hoped for posterity sake that Logan isn’t truly giving a verdict for Jovy to get rid of the child. That is his only means of getting a heir.
When he got to the office building, Kyrian felt unsteady all of a sudden. Since Logan got married, the both of them have been going in and out of hot arguments that leads to them not talking for days and Kyrian was tired of it all. He made his way to Logan’s office.
Kyrian knocked on the door and when no response came, he opened it to let himself in. Logan stood by the glass that could make him survey the Fortress with his shoulders looking tensed.
“You are late.” Logan said.
Kyrian shrugged as he settled into a chair. “I had a restless night so I woke up late.”
“Hmm.” Logan hummed.
Taking his time, Kyrian tried to conjoin his words to avoid saying the wrong thing. At the same time, he has no other idea on how to put his words together. Taking a deep breath, Kyrian cleared his throat.
“Jovy told me about the pregnancy.” He began.
Logan scoffed. “I should have known she has ratted me out with that long silence which is unusual of you.” Turning around to stare at his friend, he nodded his head at him. “So messenger, I am all ears.”
“Can you not act bitchy and be polite please?” Kyrian muttered.
Logan let out a snort as he returned to his seat. He had been expecting Kyrian to barge in on him and give him an earful on how he is expected to act as the Alpha.
“I’m all ears then.” He uttered with sarcasm laced in his words.
“Please Logan, I really don’t want to argue with you mostly because I hate to do so. I don’t know why we keep going back and forth on Jovy’s issue. But please Logan, let this girl have some breathing space. You should have known you didn’t want kids and desist from having unprotected sex with her. But since that has happened, you should act right and bear the consequence.”
“I don’t want to have a child, Kyrian.” Logan insisted.
“Then act like you don’t even know about it. Act like you weren’t told in the first place. Don’t let the poor girl risk her life all in your favor. Please.” Kyrian pleaded.
“One quick question, Kyrian. Why are you so keen on interceding for Jovy? Is it all because of Arlo?”
Kyrian kissed his teeth. “Did you listen to yourself right now? You sound immature. Do you expect the both of us behaving like a beast? How exactly would the Fortress get to run then?”
He was getting pissed at how nonchalant Logan was to the impending issues at hand. Aside that, the mere thought of how much the poor girl is being subjected to all because of his friend, Logan makes Kyrian feel guilty.
Logan stayed quiet as he looked away from his friend. “It still doesn’t change the fact that you dragged me into all of this.”
“No one forced you to become an Alpha. And as much as you might try to deny it, you would have never become an Alpha if your father had asked for you to be killed.”
Logan fumed. “Don’t mention a word about my said father.”
“When would you face reality Logan? You can’t keep living like this and that is for a fact. And most importantly stop making Jovy’s life miserable. It’s burdening my heart that I am one of the reasons she is here.”
“Good for you to own a heart.” Logan snickered.
“Don’t test me Logan. I might be forced to involve the Fortress council if you try to do anything crazy and that is it.” He said.
Kyrian sounded so tired. He excused himself and left the office without looking back.
“Fuck you!” Logan spat in distaste at the closed door.
