Chapter 96 The Delusion
MYSTIC SHADOWS FORTRESS
The entire journey back home was quiet, Jovy didn’t know what to feel exactly and Arlo was shocked beyond words. He didn’t know if he should be happy for Jovy or to cry for her cause pregnancy news for married couples are meant to be good news but hers is quite on the opposite.
Jovy didn’t wait for Arlo to come open the car door for her after he packed the car in front of the Fortress house before she got down and hurried towards the entrance.
“Jovy!” Arlo called out to her.
Jovy stopped on track without turning to look at him. “I promise Arlo, I am fine. I just want to be alone.”
Arlo let out a sigh before nodding his head in agreement. He clearly understands how and what she was possibly feeling and thinking. “Sure. But please let me know if you need me.” He said. Arlo got back into the car and drove out.
When Jovy returned to the safety of her room, she looked through the test result in her hands again. Her hands instinctively rubbed on her belly as she couldn’t believe that a life was growing inside of her. Different questions raced through her mind. Jovy wondered if she was ready to be a mother. Another thing struck her mind again. What would happen if Logan who has been so awful towards her hears about the pregnancy? Would he be happy or more vicious at her? Is he going to be more lenient and more understanding to her feelings? She wondered.
Jovy had never heard him discuss children and there is no way to know what he might think. It scares Jovy even more that her child might grow up knowing his or her father doesn’t love the mother. Thoughts of her dying and not being able to be there for her child just like the case of her mother also plagued her. Jovy couldn’t imagine the thought of her child being subjected to the horrible life she has experienced.
However, a different thought plagued her mind. What if the pregnancy would be her only means to get closer to Logan and they get to share loving moments because of their child? The thought of it made Jovy feel hopeful again. Maybe it’s actually going to be a start of something new. She concluded.
Slowly Jovy began to hum a sweet tune to herself as she arranged the room and patiently waited for Logan’s return. Jovy hoped fervently for the sake of the good news she has to share he would come home. Since she knew getting to see him is a huge task, Jovy made her way to the living room to enable her see him when he returns. It felt like ages as she sat down for hours and was about dozing off before Logan strolled into the house. Jovy jolted up from the couch immediately she heard the sound of the door being opened.
“Logan.” She rushed towards him with a small smile grazing her expression.
Logan had a blank look on his face when his eyes landed on her. He ignored her presence and walked past her while heading towards the stairs.
“I would like to talk to you.” Jovy muttered. She was trying so hard to summon courage within herself.
Logan stopped in his track, not because he really wants to but he was amused at the boldness she possessed to talk to him after several warnings for her to keep away from him. Jovy gulped at the hard glare he threw at her. But she encouraged herself that she had good news to share. So she raised her head to look at him.
“I felt a bit sick today and I went to the infirmary…”
Logan’s loud sucking of teeth had her pause as she talked. He was simply annoyed that she had stopped him for such flimsy discussion. He returned to walking away from her. Jovy knows better than to let him go without saying what she had to.
“I am pregnant!” She announced with a squeal.
The silence that enveloped the room had her worried that she probably thought wrong of what his reaction would be.
Logan had a vicious glare on his face when he turned swiftly to face her. “That had better be you trying to learn how to make jokes.” His voice sounded low.
Immediately Jovy became unsure of herself and she started stuttering. “I…I…I am serious. I…I… have the result… with me. The doctor affirmed I am…pregnant.” She said.
A cackle escaped Logan’s lips. “So why are you telling me about it?”
Jovy looked confused. “Because…” She paused. She clasped her hands together and fiddled with her fingers at the same time. “Because…you are the father.”
“Whatever got into that silly head of yours to make you think I want a child with you must be very stupid. You had better find a way to get rid of that thing.” He bellowed.
Jovy stared in shock. She was taken aback by the cruelty in his tone. “It’s your child.” She whispered.
“I never told you I wanted children! What sort of delusion have you been experiencing to think I would want a child with you?!” Logan yelled.
A tear streamed down her right cheek. “Why?”
“And what right do you have to question me over my decision?! You will get rid of it!” He grimaced.
“I can’t! I don’t want to!” Jovy stomped her feet as she let more tears fall freely from her face.
“For your own good, you had better abort it. If you choose to keep it, I swear I won’t spare you a glance! And that is a promise.” Logan seethed his teeth in anger. He let out a loud hiss before walking away.
Jovy slumped to the floor, feeling her heart rip out into pieces. Every time, Logan finds joy in making her feel sad and miserable. It’s obvious he doesn’t give a care about her. Different thoughts raced through her mind. If Logan keeps to his promise, he might end up forcing her to truly get rid of the child which was her key to solace.
Jovy ran all the way down to her room, grabbed her phone and called the one person she believes would be her savior.
‘Beta…’ Her voice trailed off.
Kyrian picked on the second ring. ‘Is everything okay, Jovy?’ He inquired, his voice on the edge.
Jovy sniffed. ‘I’m so sorry to be calling you at this late time, Beta…but I need your help.’
‘Talk to me, Jovy. You don’t have to worry about what time you are calling. Tell me, what’s going on?’
‘I’m pregnant.’ She announced, letting the information sink in.
There was a long silence before Kyrian eventually cleared his throat. ‘Have you told Logan about it?’
‘Yes.’
‘What did Logan say?’ Kyrian asked even though he already knows the answer to the question.
‘He…He said I should get rid of it.’ Jovy sobbed.
Kyrian sighed. ‘And you don’t want to?’ He stated.
‘What? I don’t want to Beta. I want to have my baby. Can you please talk to him on my behalf? I really can’t afford to kill my own child. Please I beg you.’
‘I will do my best, Jovy. Put your mind at rest please worrying isn’t good for your health.’
Jovy nodded her head like Kyrian was right in front of her. ‘Thank you so much.’
‘You are always welcome. Please find some rest.’
‘I will. Thanks. Bye.’ She said into the receiver before hanging up.
Jovy curled herself up on the bed as she tried to cry even more but the tears weren’t coming. Her body is obviously exhausted from having to cry too much. Ever since she moved in with Logan, it has been one worry to another. She can’t seem to hold back on being sad and it’s all because Logan cares less about her.
Jovy took her phone again. She typed some words into her phone notebook to express how wrecked she was feeling inside. She wailed bitterly into the sheets, wishing it was all just a bad nightmare and she would wake up from it.
