Chapter 87 He wants to love
MYSTIC SHADOWS FORTRESS
Arlo sat rigidly all through the rest of the ride like he couldn’t believe what Logan had just told him. His mind reeled over the possibilities of Jovy putting herself in such horrible fix. It still doesn’t seem right that she would want such a life for herself no matter how in love she must have claimed to be. He has a bad feeling about the outcome of it all.
Giving Logan a side glance, it sort of scared Arlo that he sat down with so much confidence and unbothered about whatever might be happening. It was all cool that Logan was the rigid and cool kind of uncle he has and had always preferred him over Kyrian. But, as time went by and they had an encounter as regards Jovy, it had him really worried about his choice of a role model.
Arlo didn’t want to believe probably Logan was only trying to pull his legs. “What you said earlier…” He paused to think of the proper words to say. “Is it true? Or you are just trying to joke with me?”
Logan stayed quiet focusing his attention on the road at first before he heaved a sigh and he glanced back at Arlo briefly. “Yes, it is true. And I hope you don’t get offended by it yet again. I am actually tired of being in feud with you.” He admitted truthfully.
“Why? How did you become a thing to that extent?”
Logan exhaled deeply, feeling exhausted at having to explain himself to Arlo. At the same time he knows telling the boy what he wants to know would save him a whole lot of headache. “Her pack sold her off to me.”
Arlo gasped out. “What? How? Why? Is this a joke?”
“Watch it young man, don’t force me to keep mute and not say a word.” Logan warned.
“Sorry. I am just shocked.” He mumbled.
“You need to learn something Arlo, life won’t be everything that you dream of and want. Sometimes or most times, you just need to accept the actual truth and not keep wishing it should have been a certain way. What I mean is, just fucking move on.”
Gritting his teeth, Arlo stared out the window and kept his eyes fixed on the road. He felt a bit hurt by what Logan said but deep within him he knows it’s the actual truth. As much as he wanted a whole lot of things for Jovy, it appeared the odds were against her and he would have ended up heartbroken.
The rest of the ride home was silent. Logan had driven straight to Kyrian’s home. The moment they drove into the compound, an sager Kyrian awaited them by the house door, stretching out his neck and his arms widely spread in the air.
“Did you miss me that much?” Arlo teased him as he got off the car.
Kyrian laughed expressively with an outstretched arm. “You knucklehead, come here.”
Arlo mirrored his expression and embraced him tightly. “Why do you look so different? Have you been working really hard?”
Kyrian rolled his eyes before he snickered towards Logan. “That right there is my nemesis and he is the reason why I might be overworked.”
Logan let out a snort. “You hardly do nothing. I wonder why you are always whining about doing too much work.”
“This is why I say he never appreciates me.” Kyrian faked a tear.
Arlo laughed loudly. “I have missed seeing you both bicker at each other.”
“And we have missed being troubled by your excesses.” Logan replied.
“Shows you both simply can’t do without me!” Arlo stated. “I need to get to the restroom real quick please.”
As they both watched him run off, Kyrian turned towards Logan with a wide grin on his face. “I see you both are back on each other’s good books.”
Logan shrugged as he dropped his hands into his pockets. “I couldn’t help having him back and not talking to him.”
He nodded. “Thanks Logan.”
“For what?”
“Arlo is the only one that gets you to succumb to others emotions rather than yours. When he had texted me of his return, I had been worried you both might be at each other’s throat and it bothered me a whole lot. Thanks for making it easier.”
“Anything for you brother.”
“Thanks man. Have you told him about Jovy staying at your place now?”
“Yup and he seem to get it because I think I did my best to explain it to him.”
A snort escaped Kyrian’s lips. “I am sure you did.”
“Shut up!”
“We should get lunch now. Do you think Jovy would have settled in by now?”
Logan groaned. “Can you quit trying to act so concerned? Why not leave it be. I just want to spend sometime with Arlo before I get sucked into work again. I have a bit too many to drink earlier today, I would like to fill up my belly with food.”
“Someone sounds excited today.” Kyrian taunted.
“Say whatever it is you want, meet me at our usual spot for dinner. Bills is on me. And tell Arlo to come with an empty stomach entirely.” Logan grinned as he got into his car and drove off.
“Where is uncle Logan?” Arlo inquired from Kyrian as he walked into the house.
“He left but asked us to have dinner with him at our usual spot.” Kyrian replied.
Arlo rubbed his palms together. “That would be nice I have missed their sumptuous meals.” There was brief pause between them. “Jovy…” He drawled.
Kyrian waved his hand. “Please Arlo. He told me you both already discussed it-”
“But you know uncle Logan is incapable of loving anyone.” He cut in.
“And what am I suppose to do to that? Am I supposed to open up his heart and put some love in it? You won’t understand these things Arlo. It’s better to let it be.”
“That was the exact same words he used. I don’t want to be like you two, I want to have love in my heart just like dad had loved mom. He still can’t get over her death and has immersed himself in work so much that he hardly has my time. Most times I wish my mom was alive, then I would have learned what a real complete family is. You both are of no help, one bit!” Arlo stomped his feet against the hard floor before running back up to the stairs.
Kyrian shuddered when the door to Arlo’s room got shut loudly He exhaled deeply, feeling exhaustion envelope him. There is no way they would get to explain it any other way since they have no actual excuse. He just hopes for posterity sake, Logan would try if not his very best but his least best at not making Jovy’s life miserable.
Rubbing at his forehead, he slumped into the couch and tried to get some sleep that he actually deserves.
