Chapter 88 The call
MIDNIGHT PACK
Linda paced the room with her heart beating above its usual rate. Nothing seem right and her wolf feels really unsettled. It was past eight and Tommy wasn’t back as promised. The both of them had arranged for everything and the agreement was for him to sort out whatever else is needed and they all leave the pack together with the children.
“Mummy, where is daddy?” Tyrone the youngest of the boys asked.
Linda lifted him up and kissed his forehead. “Daddy should be here soon baby. Just go play with your toys.” Trying to steady her breath, she tried his line again and it still isn’t reachable. “I told you this was a bad idea Tommy. I warned you.” She moaned in despair.
He had lodged them in a hotel just five minutes away from the airport to avoid being caught up in the house. What worries her is her inability to reach him. “Where in the world are you, Tommy?” Linda groaned.
A slight knock was heard from the door and she moved swiftly to the keyhole to check who it is. Linda almost wailed out loud as she opened it and pulled Tommy into a tight hug.
“Where in the world have you been?” She inquired, checking every part of him for any form of injury.
Tommy sighed as he walked past her to sit on the bed. “Where are the children?”
“They are in the adjoined room.” She responded sitting next to him.
“Can you lock the door leading to it for now? I don’t want them to know I am here yet.” Tommy said.
Linda stared at him for a while before standing up. The more he stayed silent the more her fear keeps mounting on what might have gone wrong. “Can you just say something already Tommy. What exactly is going on?”
Tommy adjusted himself on the bed as he swallowed hard. When he had involved himself in the mess that surrounded him now, he didn’t expect it to be that easy for him and despite having thoughts of starting life afresh, he knows for certain it wouldn’t last for long. Also, Tommy knows sooner or later karma would definitely catch up with him and one thing he had promised himself is to ensure his family would never get hurt in the process.
Dipping his hand into the jacket he wore, he pulled out a file and handed it to Linda. “I want you to have this.” Tommy said.
Staring at the file like a strange object, she raised a questioning brow. “What is this?”
“That is the document containing Jovy’s share of the company that was sold. She would be needing it soon.”
“Why are giving this to me?”
Tommy held her hands as he stared into her eyes. “Linda, aside the time I had first gotten involved with Elena and the few years I thought Jovy was my daughter, those were the times I experienced happiness in a relationship. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t regret ever being with you. I am grateful for the joyful times we shared and also for those two beautiful boys that you gave to me. But as much as I would want us to be together, I can’t and that is because my past actions will catch up with me and I would hate for the three of you to be involved.”
“What is all this about Tommy?” Her voice shook in fear of what is to come.
“You never wanted marriage, so I guess this wouldn’t hurt too much. Please take the kids with you and keep all the files with you safe. I bought all of the properties in yours and the children’s name. Also the bank account where all of the money is kept is all in your name. And your accessibility to them is all in the file I had given you previously.”
Linda sniffed as her eyes laced with tears. “Does this mean you aren’t coming with us?”
“I’m sorry baby. Please. I need you to please find Jovy later on and hand her that document. I have done enough harm to her and I hope she forgives me. Take the boys and leave Linda, they might come for me soon. Please.”
“Why would you do this without thinking of the children?” She sobbed.
Tears rolled down Tommy’s cheeks. “This is all for them and for you. Please leave, there is an SUV waiting down for you. Please leave.”
Exhaling, Linda stood up, wiped her tears and grabbed her jacket. “You should hide in the bathroom. It would be too much for them when they see you and still can’t travel with you.”
Nodding his head obediently, Tommy went to the bathroom and cried silently as he heard Linda order the children to move their stuff. They kept asking about him and it broke his heart more. After what seem like the longest ten minutes of his life, he stepped out to an empty room and his heart felt hollow. It hurt him so much that he couldn’t give his kids one last kiss. Bracing himself, Tommy sat on the single couch placed in the room and he threw his head to the back.
His mind raced through the day’s activities, today had been the longest and toughest day of his entire life. In the end, the right things were done at least he hoped. His thoughts went out to Amelia and he hopes she got the money and has arrived wherever she went to safely. As for Jovy, he prays the Moon Goddess would save her from the pit of hell she is in.
The surge in his belly was getting stronger but he endured the pain still. Tommy knew going to Herald will be the death of him. Getting the brothers distracted by implicating Carlton was a wrong move on his path but it made him feel better. He had always wanted to teach Carlton a lesson. What they didn’t know is just how prepared he was for them too. As agreed he had brought the documents containing their share of the company which was fake but they wouldn’t know that since they are too dumb to take note of things.
Tommy didn’t mind taking the poisoned drink, knowing the brothers would be joining him soon with the death potion he had put in their drinks the last time they visited. It made him feel at ease. Carlton’s punishment was only just a front.
Turning his head towards his phone message notification, he smiled weakly at Linda’s message informing him about them getting on the plane. Closing his eyes after locking the door, he let sleep evade him till the time of reckoning finally knocks at his door. His time on earth was due.
