Chapter 36 A trip to San Francisco
MIDNIGHT PACK
The clouds seem like they are so unsupportive with the decision she made. It seem too dark and unfriendly with its gloomy look. Jovy shivered, having second thoughts on the crazy decision she was making. Knowing fully well that when she does return, there would be no home for her to return to.
“Is this really worth it?” Jovy asked herself as she rubbed at her chest.
Logan had asked for her to be at the Old Joe’s diner door way by nine am but she knew better than to expose herself willingly in front of the diner at such time. She had sneaked out of the house as early as 6:30 to avoid being noticed with the extra weight that her bag carried.
Jovy had stayed two blocks away from the diner, hoping Logan would call her for real this time. Even though that sounded very stupid since he didn’t ask for her number or anything of sort. She could tell he had possibly lost her contact, if he had to come all the way down to the diner to see her when he could have just placed a call.
The worries of what her life would become kept on nagging at her thoughts. All night she had thought about his offer, her excitement and curiosity topped. She wanted to feel the ecstasy that came with the nights she had spent with him again. Those three nights weren’t filled with just getting fucked alone but she had felt extremely at peace and happy. Having someone who seem to want her aside Alice made her feel kind of special.
Speaking of Alice, she hadn’t told her of the crazy decision she had made over night. Knowing Alice for being blunt, she would definitely not be in support and might never even talk to her again. Still, she needed to get through to her and let her know of it this time around.
Jovy heaved a deep sigh to steady her breathing as she pulled out her phone from her bag. She prayed silently that Alice would pick up cause she wouldn’t wake up until after school had resumed for about twenty minutes. But it even surprised Jovy when Alice picked almost immediately.
‘Hey bitch!’ Alice’s voice boomed into the receiver making her ear ache.
‘Isn’t it too early to indulge in such ear piercing noise?’ Jovy asked as she watched the movement of her feet.
‘Can’t one be happy on a bright day like this?’ Alice giggled.
Her response sounded suspicious. ‘Where the hell are you at, Alice?’
‘Somewhere nice!’ Her response sounded too high pitched for someone like Alice.
‘Are you at David’s place?’
‘Kind of.’
‘Alice! You slutty human!’ Jovy laughed. ‘When we left school yesterday, you didn’t mention spending the night with him.’
‘Well, he is my boyfriend and technically I can actually spend as much time as I want with him.’
Jovy giggled lightly. ‘Well it’s all good. I get it. But Alice…’ Her words trailed off in the air.
‘Yes.’ Her voice sounded more alert. She knew just how to respond in situations.
‘Can you keep a secret?’
‘What’s going on, Jovy?’
Jovy gulped hard. ‘I am heading to San Francisco today.’
Alice gasped out. ‘Are you eloping?’
Jovy could feel her sitting upright to listen. ‘No, that isn’t the case.’
‘What then is happening? Talk to me!’
‘Logan. He came by yesterday.’
‘Logan? Who the fuck is Logan?’
‘The guy I went away with at the party.’
‘Are you out of your mind?!’
‘Let me explain to you…Alice please-”
Alice cuts in. ‘Okay! What do you have to say?!’ She sounded angry.
‘He came over to diner yesterday and asked me to come with him. I was angry that he didn’t reach out and all that…but I couldn’t resist him.’
‘You couldn’t resist him?’
‘Yes. And I…I can’t say no to going with him.’
‘Are you even listening to yourself?!’ Alice snapped back at her.
‘Please Alice, try to understand me. I can’t control my emotions around him.’
Alice stayed quiet for a long while and Jovy had to check the phone to affirm if she was still on the line.
‘Please say something.’ Jovy pleaded.
Alice sighed. ‘I have nothing to say, Jovy. I just want you to know that, you can come to me when you are in trouble.’
Tears pricked at Jovy’s eyes as she sniffed trying hard not to cry. ‘Thank you, Alice.’
‘Anytime.’
Just as Jovy was about to hang up the call, a BMW SUV, all glass tinted parked next to her. Jovy was almost scared at the intimidation of the car and she wondered who the intruder was. The glass came down from the back seat to show Logan.
“Get in.” He instructed her.
Jovy bowed her head like a kindergarten child being rebuked as she opened the door and got into the car. The insides was breathtaking with its red leather seats and the interior of the entire car. It made her feel like she had stepped into a different world.
Jovy had expected Logan to ask her how she had made it away from home but his eyes were transfixed on his phone. It was almost like she wasn’t existing. Jovy cleared her throat and she adjusted herself on the seat. She was trying to get his attention or make him say something.
“What is it?” Logan eventually said but still not looking up from what he was doing.
“Are we going by car?” It sounded stupid of her to ask, but she couldn’t bear the silence between them.
Logan gave her a rigid stare before turning his head away back at his phone. He didn’t respond to her. He needed to answer to the client that was insistent on knowing his movement to San Francisco. And as much as he wanted to have her around, it was only for fucks sake. And when that was over, he wouldn’t have her even a feet from him.
Logan was tired of having to get a hard-on with just thinking about her. Sex wasn’t a problem for him and that was why the sensation that kept accompanying her thoughts annoyed him.
Jovy gulped dryly. It was obvious he had no intention to talk to her. Even when they got to their destination and they boarded the plane, he didn’t acknowledge her still. She was extra engrossed with the massiveness of the plane while he was still on phone.
Joy had never had the chance at luxury even when her father did just fine with his finances and he could afford some nice vacation plans but it wouldn’t involve her let to talk of being on a private plane. She couldn’t say the same for Amelia though.
The moment they settled into the air, some sumptuous meals were brought to them and her mouth watered. Jovy couldn’t help but dig into it. She hadn’t even spent an hour and she was already living the luxurious life.
Her palpitating heart fell into a normal rhythm as she stared out the window watching as they move in the air. Jovy was beginning to feel sleepy when the pilot announced their landing and for them to remain tucked in their seat belt.
“You would be heading to the house prepared for us. I would join you when I am done with the meeting.” Logan said.
Jovy only nodded her head in response as they stepped out of the plane. For the very first time in her entire life, Jovy smelt the air of an entirely different world from hers.
And just as she had been told, Logan didn’t go in the same car as hers. Jovy hoped fervently that she was safe. She brought out her phone to check the time and it turned out that she had only been away from home for about two hours. Knowing how quick it would be for her father and Amelia to track her location, Jovy switched the phone off and with a hope that this decision she had made wouldn’t be the death of her.
Jovy sank deeper into the car seat with her head resting on the window as she let the cool breeze blow her into a sweet slumber.
