Chapter 35 Insatiable needs
A deep scoffed escaped his throat after her words. “Damn you, Jovy! You can rot in hell with him!” Arlo turned away and left the kitchen.
“Arlo!” Tears leaked down her cheeks.
Arlo stormed out of Ol’Joe’s diner with Jovy hot on his tail as he made his way to his car. He didn’t respond to her call or plead for them to settle. He drove like a maniac on the streets.
Arlo’s mind was jumbled and he felt really hurt. This feels like his first major heartbreak and it hurts more because it was coming from one of the persons he loves and respects. He didn’t know where exactly he was going but he knew who he wanted to go meet.
After getting lost in the middle of a road twice, he finally got a grip on himself and drove straight to the office.
Kyrian almost fell off his seat when Arlo burst into his office looking like he would tear down the whole place. “What the hell man!” He whined.
Arlo didn’t look affected as he stood glaring at his uncle and balling and unclenching his fists every second.
“I really hate him!” Arlo let out.
Kyrian heaved a sigh of frustration as he stood up and walked towards him slowly. “No, you don’t hate anyone. You are only pissed at the moment.” Kyrian tried to explain as he guided him towards the couch.
It was an obvious struggle for Arlo as he tried hard to not cry. He sat down as motioned by Kyrian and he rested his head on his palms. He sniffed back tears that was threatening to spill.
“What happened exactly?” Kyrian inquired. He knew something was wrong somewhere when Logan had left the office about twice.
“He was there with her…and I found them kissing. She likes him.” Arlo gave a summary of it all.
“That bastard!” Kyrian muttered under his breath. At that point, he found Logan charms and attitude really disgusting. He had constantly warned him against being more involved with the girl as she was too young for him. And considering how fucked up Logan’s mind was, he has succeeded in corrupting the innocent girl’s mind. If only she knew how dangerous and dark Logan’s world is, how bad he could sniff out the light from her life then she wouldn’t dare fall for him.
Arlo wondered why Kyrian looked so lost in thought. He wanted to believe he was just as pissed at Logan as he was. “Are you still listening?” He asked.
Kyrian jolted out of thought and he looked up at him. “I am really sorry this happening to you, Arlo. You shouldn’t have met with her in the first place. And this shit is messier than you can imagine.”
“He feels nothing for her!” Arlo argued.
“You can say that again. I know Logan doesn’t want a woman in his life right now.” Kyrian mumbled as he itched his right ear.
“She will only get burnt in the end.” Arlo murmured.
“If only she knows more about him. But let’s think positive.” Kyrian sighed.
They both stayed quiet with each of them having different thoughts.
“Talking to you makes me feel calm now. Thank you, Kyrian.” Arlo stated as he stood up to leave .
Kyrian stood up after him. “Are you sure you are okay?”
Arlo thinned his lips. “It’s all good. I’ll get better with time.”
Kyrian moved closer to him and pat his back lightly. “It’s okay buddy. Do you need to take some time off? I could book a ticket for you and a couple of friends to Maldives.”
A bright smile formed on his face. “Is that a bribe?”
Kyrian snorted. “You want to take it or not?”
“You have got to be kidding if you think I would miss that for anything!” He chuckled.
“You are such a goose.” Kyrian laughed loud.
“Maybe I can take a quick dive to New Orleans to see Dad.”
“You miss him that much?” Kyrian teased.
Arlo shook his head. “Not really. It has just been long since I tormented the old man.” He tried to laugh. But was obvious he was trying to cheer himself up.
“Do you mind if I make the bookings now?”
“Yes please. I would place a call to my dad now. I need to let him know the storm is coming!”
They both chuckled deeply. Kyrian heaved a sigh as he placed a hand on Arlo shoulder. “Promise me you will let all of this go. And when you are back, you will get on a good terms with your uncle Logan.”
Arlo tried to give a glare but he was met with a stern one from Kyrian. “Really? You are such a loyalist.” He whined.
“You can call me whatever. But please, Arlo, you can’t keep up with this grudge over a girl. Even if you did like her and Logan wasn’t involved, what makes you think she would return the same energy?”
“Cause I have everything! Good looks, money and the brains!” Arlo boasted.
“Oh please shut up!” Kyrian laughed.
Arlo joined in the laughter. “Just kidding. And maybe…you are right. I have a feeling Jovy has too much to deal than commit to a relationship.”
Kyrian shook his head in understanding. “You have grown so much man!” He grinned widely.
“Oh please don’t baby me. I should take my leave now. Let me know when my flight is ready.”
“Alright. Bye, Arlo.” He called after him.
Kyrian released a deep breathe that he didn’t realize he had been holding. He hadn’t rested into the chair for a ten minutes when his door was opened abruptly for the second time in a row.
“Can you all cultivate the fucking habit of knocking?!” He groaned.
“I own this place and every door is mine to open.” Logan responded with a weird look on his face.
Kyrian tapped on his forehead. “At this point I have a feeling I might collapse with a diagnosis of heart attack that you all keep giving me.”
“Your living isn’t exactly so nice.” Logan responded with a glare as he took a seat.
“I am really contemplating on leaving this place. I am really not finding your presence splendid either.”
“I don’t want to say this, but I didn’t mean for all this to happen.” Logan stated after a minute of silence. His face was giving off an odd emotion.
“What exactly did you do, Logan?”
“I went to see her.” Logan rubbed his hand against his jaw as he leaned further into the chair. “I have been feeling some type of way since my encounter with her and I just couldn’t get my mind off it. Hearing Arlo talk about meeting up with her only brought about the unexplainable feeling.”
Kyrian stared at him in confusion. “You aren’t one to give flimsy excuses. So I am expecting you to be more elaborate.”
Logan groaned. “I wake up with a fucking hard on with the mere thought of her.” He almost sounded frustrated.
“This isn’t about being horny, but you satisfying your ego and insatiable needs?”
“You can’t blame me for wanting what my mind desires.”
“You aren’t in love right?” Kyrian taunted.
The sore look Logan had on his face was enough to tell there was no such thing as an emotional attachment to the girl in question.
Kyrian raised his hands in surrender. “I get the message!”
“I already asked her to go to San Francisco with me tomorrow.” Logan blurted out.
“What!” Kyrian almost choked on his saliva. “Oh please tell me that was a joke!”
“I already told you, Kyrian. I need to get this crazy attachment I am feeling towards her off my chest.”
“Have you lost your fucking mind?!” Kyrian demanded.
“Maybe, maybe not.” He replied.
Kyrian watched in amusement. “You really are something man.”
“Any news from the packs?” Logan asked.
Kyrian had almost forgotten that he needed to hear from them. “I haven’t gotten any news yet. Thanks for reminding me. And I do hope those old rags aren’t trying to play smart with me.”
“It’s all on you, you promised to fix it.”
“Dumping all of the weight on me now?”
Logan shrugged. “Is Arlo back?”
“I just booked him a flight and resort at Maldives. He should be out in about few hours.”
“I see he is running far away from me.” Logan hugged.
“You bet.”
Logan stood up and walked rigidly towards the door. Leaning into the door frame, he stared back at his friend. As much as Logan acted unbothered about the whole ruckus that had ensued in less than twenty four hours, he still felt bad that he and Arlo had to confront each other and fall out. One of the more reasons he couldn’t wait to do away with Jovy as soon as the San Fransisco trip was all over.
“Thanks for holding things down, Kyrian. All of this shit would be over by next week.” He uttered sincerely.
“I hope so. I really hope so.” Kyrian muttered after him.
