Akira’s Point Of View
“Is she not still awake?”
“Alpha, I’m going to need you to exit the room. You’re restless and obstructing the work of the physician. You should -”
“Don’t fucking tell me that!” I roared in anger and the nurse flinched. “She has been unconscious for twelve hours! Twelve freaking hours and all your talentless physician has been doing is poking countless needles into her body!”
“It’s called acupuncture, Akira.” Xena said tiredly and I threw her a glare. “Well, the stupid acupuncture has not done anything since they started.”
She shook her head and motioned her head to the door. “You should leave if you’re gonna keep snapping at everyone.” I looked away from her and walked to the bed where my love lied. I knelt beside her and took her hand.
“She was hot a while ago, why is she so cold?” I asked the physician.
“Her internal energy is unbalanced, alpha.”
“And…?”
“I’m using these needles to pin down her energy points so it won’t get to the level where she’ll burn or freeze to death. So alpha, I’m not just ‘poking’ these needles. I’m trying to keep her alive.”
“Is it…” I swallowed the lump in my throat. “Is it that bad?”
He nodded. “it is, alpha.”
“What could have caused this?”
He inserted one last needle in her forehead and Alexa gasped a little.
“Is she awake?” I said hopefully and he shook his head.
“The main cause of this could be that she released a great amount of energy that she’s never released before.”
“Release energy? Like sweat during vigorous exercise?”
He shook his head. “Energy. Magical energy.” He said and I frowned in confusion. Alexa doesn’t have the ability to shift to her wolf, not to talk of releasing energy like a sorcerer or witch. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any kind of sign of such in her.
“I think you’re mistaken.” I said and Xena cut in.
“He’s not.” She said as she came to join us.
“What do you mean?” I asked her.
“Yesterday, Alexa, my brother and I found a wounded man in the woods. He was covered in blood and dying as each second passed. We couldn’t bring him to the palace because it was such a long journey and he would die on the way. We were still deciding on what to do when Alexa… it’s kind of crazy. I don’t know how she did it but her hand shinned with a bright light and somehow, the light healed the man.”
I found her whole story unbelievable. “It’s true, Akira.” She said. “You can go check the man I’m talking about. He’s at the infirmary. Alexa’ healed his wound and even the wound did not leave a scar. Do you really think I would make something like this up?”
True.
Xena is not the type to make up a crazy story. If this is true then I have a lot of questions.
“Is it possible?” I asked the physician and he nodded.
“If it’s true she has healing powers then we understand why she’s unconscious now. She might not have expected it herself. It probably happened out of desperation and that made her release a lot of energy.”
“So now that we know this, how will we wake her up?”
He shook his head. “There is no way for us to wake her up. She has to wake up by herself.”
“What are you saying? Do you mean even if she stays this way for a month, I shouldn’t do anything and just hope she wakes up herself?” I said in disbelief.
“That’s the only thing we can do.”
“Bullshit! What if she dies?”
“If we try to wake her up externally, she’ll die.” He said and my heart dropped. “The best way for her to wake up is to gather her energy and make it circulate. Don’t try any other measures.” He warned. I turned away from him and looked at my love. I brushed the strands of hair away from her face and held her hand. Her forehead is sweaty but her hand is cold. There is no balance.
“Fine. I’ll wait.”
“That’s the right choice.” He said before standing. He packed his bag and zipped it up. “I’m going to leave now. I come back when the day breaks to check up on her. The needles should not be moved and there should be no noise around her. It’s best if everyone leaves the room, including you, alpha. This is all for her recovery, don’t take it to heart.” He said. “With that said, goodbye.” He said halfheartedly and walked to the door. He bowed briskly at Xena before exiting with his assistant.
“You know you offended him, right?” Xena said and I shook my head.
“I don’t care if he is offended. If getting him offended will make Alexa wake up then I’m ready to get on his nerves.”
She smiled and patted my shoulder. “We should leave her, Akira.”
I nodded. “I know. I know. I’ll be out in a minute. Just give me a minute.”
She nodded and left. I held Alexa’s hand tighter as I kept my gaze on her face, praying silently that she would just open her eyes and smile at me again.
“Please look at me, my love.”
A knock came at the door. Thinking it was Xena or the physician, I told them to come in. The door opened and an unfamiliar man stepped in.
“Who are you?”
“I… I was the man saved by her highness.”
“Oh…” I said in realization. I scrutinized him. He was actually young looking. He’s probably the same age as Riaz. He had gold wavy hair that stopped at his shoulders and a pair of eyes that resembled the sun.
“Is she… is she okay?” He asked and I shook my head.
“She’s still unconscious.”
He took timid steps to the bed and he knelt beside Alexa. He was staring at her so fondly that I felt like pulling his eyes out. The audacity he has.
His eyes began to glimmer in tears.
“What’s wrong with you?”
“Alexa…” He said in-between tears.
How does he know her name?
He sniffled and cleaned his tears with the back of his palm.
“Do you feel that bad?”
“No, I just… she…”
He covered his face with his palms and sobbed.
“What’s wrong with you? Don’t disturb her with your tears. You can cry outside.” I said and he nodded. He scurried outside and shut the door behind him.
What was that?
He called her name so intimately like he knew her. Who could he be?
