Chapter Fourteen

Alexa’s Point Of View
The security here was not as I expected. I expected strict security like Raven Pack’s but I guess this pack is lenient. Well, no one has the cause to sneak out of such a loving pack like this. No one except me that is.
“Gosh,” my breathing was strained. I’ve been climbing a hill and I’ve finally got to the top. I looked back to behold the pack one last time. I’ve only spent a few days here but I feel like I’m leaving something so important behind. Is it Isabella?
No, it’s more than that.
I turned forward to the journey that awaited me. It’s late and freaking dark. A tiger could be behind me right now and I wouldn’t know. Goosebumps rose across my back as the thought of tigers crept into my mind. Goddess, I plea. Make me not run into one tonight. I brought out my knife and started cutting my way through the thick bush. I should be out of here by morning.
***
I have no idea how long I’ve been walking but I’m dang sure I’ve been walking for quite a long time. I’m tired and my throat is drier than a desert. My insides are crying in hunger but food can wait.
Just then, I heard something rustling in the bushes. I stopped walking to make out what I just heard.
“Hello?” My voice was shaky. What if it’s a tiger? I tightened my grip around the knife and took fearful steps forward. I turned around abruptly as the rustle came from behind.
“Um… a… anyone there?”
I screamed in fear when something jumped out of the bush. I shut my eyes frightfully as I swayed my knife around protectively, screaming.
Then I stopped swaying my knife. I felt no attack. I opened my eyes slowly only to see a pair of cute emerald bulging at me.
“You scared me!” I snapped at the wolf cub sitting at my feet. It whimpered and I immediately felt guilty for yelling at it. My hands were still trembling as I reached for it.
“Where’s your mummy?” I asked as I patted its head. It whined cutely against my touch and I smiled. I checked him well and figured he was male.
“You look just a few weeks old. Did mummy run away?” I asked him but he simply wagged his tail happily, stretching his paw excitedly.
Does he think I’m his mummy?
I never knew I would be responsible for a wolf cub tonight. I rested him well in my arms and stood up with him.
“Looks like you’re going on this journey with me… um… what should I name you?”
His eyes are green. Should I name you Cyan?
“Cyan?”
He barked happily, making me feel proud of myself. “Alright Cyan, I hope you have good hunger tolerance because this is going to be a long walk,”
~~~
Turns out Cyan has a low hunger tolerance. Just thirty minutes after we resumed walking, he began howling in hunger. I would have given him something to eat if there were fruit trees around but every tree in this forest is either poisonous or produce really bitter fruits. Or I could hunt.
Yes, that’s better.
“Let’s find you something to eat,” I told Cyan and he whined. I took off my cloak and tightened my boot. I let down Cyan by the foot of a beech tree. I climbed it and cut off a branch. Rubbing the tip on the trunk, I made an arrow with it. I made a bow with an ash tree. Thank you, dad, for teaching me this.
“Come on, Cyan. Let’s go find some rabbits to hunt,”
I carried him on my shoulder and went in search of meat. As expected, finding meat in this forest was hard but not impossible. I found a really big rabbit in a tree. Stretching my bow, I targeted the rabbit and released the arrow. It hit the bull’s eye and the animal fell dead. Cyan jumped down from my shoulder and ran to it.
Before I could say jack, he sank its teeth in it.
“Oh hell no. I’m also hungry,” I went to him and took the meat away from his mouth. He snarled in protest but I paid him no attention. I divided the rabbit into two and gave him half.
“Eat this,”
Leaving him to devour the meat, I went to get some sticks to make a fire. After making the fire with some stones, I hung the meat to roast.    In five minutes, the meat was done. After he was done with his portion, Cyan still came to take a bite out of mine.
He was so full that he settled in my arms to sleep right after eating. Whenever I took my hands off his head, he whined for me to return my hand to his head. He’s cute but demanding.
I was also getting tired so I rested my head on the tree trunk. I closed my eyes and Akira’s face appeared in my head. He’s probably back from his mission already, wondering where I went to. What if he was searching for me?
Tch! Who cares? It’s not as if I owe him anything.
YOU DO! My bitchy subconsciousness screamed at me.
What?
If he didn’t show up that night, you’d probably be under that vampire king tonight. She taunted and I hissed.
No matter how much I deny it, she’s right.
I owe Akira my life.
But I will never admit that.
I drew the cloak over my body and let sleep take over me.
***
I woke up to the barking of Cyan. He has been barking for a while. About five minutes now but I was too tired to wake up.
“What’s going on with you, Cyan,” I said frustratingly as I opened my eyes. He was facing ahead, barking at heaven knows what.
I faced the direction he was snarling at and my heart dropped when I saw guards pointing their swords at me.
Master Raga was leading them. He didn’t have his sword pointed. He was just standing there like the warrior he is.
“Alexandra,” he called, going on one of his knees before me. “I didn’t want to wake you,”
“Well, you did,” I said as I reached for my knife slowly. As I was about to get hold of it, he grabbed my hand and kicked the knife away.
“I don’t want to do this, Alexa, but I gotta do this. I’m sorry,”
He’s apologizing?
What a joke!
I looked into his eyes and saw genuineness, which confused me for a second.
“I’m not going with you!” I deadpanned.
“You have to,”
Shit. Am I really going back to that place?
