Alexa’s Point Of View
“Where has your alpha gone to?” I asked a maid I ran into. After Akira and I parted, I haven’t seen him all evening. My thought was that he was with Isabella so I am on the way to her room.
“I don’t know, my lady but my guess is that he has gone on a mission,”
I tilted my head sideways, “mission?”
“Yes, my lady.” She replied and bowed curtly before leaving. Mission? That means he’s out of the pack, right?
I turned back, ready to leave but then I remember Isabella. Is she still asleep? I turned in the direction of her room and went there. I knocked on the door gently but I got no reply. She must still be sleeping. Careful enough not to make a sound, I pushed the door open, only to find Isabella sobbing, her legs curled up.
“Isabella,” I called softly as I entered fully and shut the door. I went to her and made her raise her head. Her eyes were bloodshot and her face was drenched in tears.
“Isabella…” I pulled her to my chest and hugged her warmly. She wrapped her little hands around me and sobbed against my chest.
“It’s okay, it’s okay,” I kept whispering comforting words to her as I patted her hair. It took about five minutes before she calmed down.
“Are you okay now?” I asked her as she pulled her head off my chest. She nodded and I smiled. I cleaned her face with my hands and rearranged her hair.
“I miss daddy,” she said lowly, her voice breaking. I held her hand and squeezed it assuringly.
“I know you do. I miss my daddy every day,”
Her eyes lit up in surprise, “you lost your daddy too?”
I nodded, smilingly bitterly as the dreadful memory reenacted in my head. “Yeah. I was a little girl just like you when my daddy left. The warm world I knew suddenly became cold and I craved his hug every day and night,”
“Really? Then how did you keep going if you miss him that much?”
I smiled. “I kept on going because I knew he was with me.”
She squinted her eyes, “How?”
I touched her chest with my index finger. “He lives here. With you. Always. And he will never depart from you.”
She touched her chest and smiled. “Really?”
I nodded. “Whenever you’re missing him, just touch your heart. Do you see? It’s beating. That means he’s with you always and forever,”
“Always and forever?”
I nodded. “Yeah. Now daddy wouldn’t like it if you stay locked up in your room crying all day. He would love it if you go out and play as you’ve always done,”
“Daddy liked reading me bedtime stories.” She said smilingly and I grinned.
“Really?”
She nodded. “Mostly fairy tales.”
“Mhm. What fairy tales do you like?”
“Umm,” she hummed thoughtfully. “I like the beauty and the wolf. I also like Sleeping Luna. And The vampire and the wolf princess,” she listed excitedly.
“The vampire and the wolf princess? Why do you like it?”
“I like the vampire. He saved the princess from the bad wolf and loved the princess so much. They got married and had babies!”
“But he’s a vampire. Do you like vampires, Isa?”
She scrunched up her nose. “There are bad vampires like the one that did that to daddy. And there are good vampires like the vampire that saved the princess. I like good vampires and I don’t like bad vampires,” she explained.
“But… isn’t it hard to see the good side of the people who did that to your daddy?”
She shook her head. “Person. Only one vampire did that to daddy, not all of them. I should only hate that one vampire. There are also good wolves and bad wolves.”
I stared at the little girl before me, utterly astounded by how mature she sounded. How could see view these things so simply? She made me wonder if I was the immature one for hating an entire race for what they did to my father.
“Then I’ll come read you bedtime stories every night, what do you say?”
“Yeah!” She beamed and I laughed.
“Where is alpha?” She asked.
“I don’t know. Did he tell you he was going anywhere?”
She shook her head.
“Maybe he went out,” I told her and she nodded. She lay on the bed and drew the duvet over her body. “I’m sleepy,” she said sleepily and I nodded.
“Sleep well, okay? I’ll tell someone to send you something to eat.”
She nodded and I tucked her in. I walked to the door and glanced at her one last time before leaving. Poor girl. I know how she feels. She was lost in this cold world, all alone.
I left Isabella’s room to look for Riaz and the others but I couldn’t find them so I went back to my room. Seems like they are with Akira on this special mission. This is an opportunity for me to escape. I could leave and he wouldn’t know.
I stared at the world beyond this place from the window. I was locked up my entire life. I refuse to be restricted here again. Tonight, I’m leaving. No matter what.
Night came so fast. I rummaged through the clothes I was provided with and was lucky to find a black cloak. I wore the clock and hid the knife I sneaked in from the kitchen into my belt. I rushed to the window and looked down. There was a tree near the window. Jumping on it won’t be easy but isn’t impossible.
With a pounding heart, I stood on the window frame.
“Shit! It’s far,” I looked down and my chest almost dropped. Don’t look down, Alexa, just jump. Bracing myself, I leaped towards the oak tree and caught a branch. I almost slipped but I wrapped my legs around a nearby trunk. I balanced well on the oak tree and let out a breath of relief.
“That was scary,”
After recollecting myself, I climbed down the oak tree and landed on the grass. I glanced up and sighted the window to Isabella’s room.
A pang of guilt hit me as I remembered my promise to her. Don’t do this, my subconsciousness screamed at me but I paid it no attention.
I have to do this.
I have to find Lyell.
Dabbing the cloak’s hoodie over my head, I ran toward the direction of the gate.
