CH 104
Andrianne’s heart was pounding as she walked towards the entrance of the hospital. She couldn’t believe that she was about to see Lucas after so long, but the thought of him not recognizing her was also terrifying. She had been on bed rest for two weeks, and her pregnancy had been giving her a hard time, but she couldn’t wait any longer to see Lucas.
As she approached the reception, she asked the nurse for Lucas’ room number, and she was directed towards the elevator. Her legs felt weak as she stepped inside, and she kept praying that everything would be okay. The elevator ride felt like eternity, but finally, she arrived at Lucas’ room.
Andrianne gently opened the door and saw Lucas lying on the bed with his eyes closed. She walked closer and noticed how pale he looked, and her heart broke for him. She reached out and gently touched his hand, and his eyes fluttered open.
“Lucas?” Andrianne said, holding her breath.
Lucas looked at her blankly and then turned his head away. Andrianne’s heart sank as she realized that he didn’t remember her.
“It’s me, Andrianne,” she said, trying to keep her voice from shaking. “Your wife.”
Lucas turned to look at her again, but there was no recognition in his eyes.
“I’m sorry,” he said softly. “I don’t remember you.”
Andrianne felt tears welling up in her eyes as she realized that Lucas had lost all memory of their life together. She sat down beside him and took his hand, hoping that it would jog his memory.
“Don’t worry, Lucas,” she said softly. “I’m here for you.”
Lucas looked at her with confusion in his eyes. “Why are you here?” he asked.
Andrianne was taken aback by his question. “Because I love you,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady. “And I want to help you.”
Lucas looked at her for a moment and then turned his head away again. Andrianne knew that she had to be patient with him and give him time to adjust to his new reality.
“It’s okay,” she said softly. “You don’t have to remember anything right now. Just rest and get better.”
Lucas closed his eyes, and Andrianne sat there for a while, holding his hand and watching him sleep. She couldn’t help but feel a sense of sadness and loss. Her husband was right in front of her, but he was a stranger.
As she stood up to leave, she leaned over and kissed him on the forehead. “I’ll be back soon,” she whispered.
Andrianne walked out of the hospital, feeling a mix of emotions. She was grateful that Lucas was alive and recovering, but the fact that he had lost his memory was heartbreaking. She knew that they had a long road ahead of them, but she was willing to do whatever it took to help him regain his memory and get back to their life together.
As Andrianne was walking out of the hospital room, she was stopped by Dr. Matthews, the doctor attending to Lucas. He invited her to his office, and Andrianne reluctantly followed.
Once they were both seated, Dr. Matthews began to explain the concept of memory loss to Andrianne in detail. He told her that Lucas had suffered from retrograde amnesia, which meant that he had lost all memories of his past. The doctor also explained that there was a chance that his memories would come back over time, but there was no guarantee.
Andrianne listened to the doctor with tears streaming down her face. She couldn’t believe that Lucas had forgotten everything, including their marriage and their unborn child. The thought of losing Lucas forever was too much for her to bear.
“I don’t know what to do,” Andrianne said, her voice shaking. “How can I make him remember?”
Dr. Matthews sighed. “Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do to bring back his memories. It’s up to Lucas’s brain to repair itself, and that can take time. All we can do now is wait and see what happens.”
Andrianne’s heart sank. She couldn’t just sit back and do nothing. She had to try and help Lucas remember, no matter what it took.
“Thank you, doctor,” she said, standing up. “I appreciate your help.”
As Andrianne left the office, she couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed. She knew that the road ahead would be difficult, but she was determined to do everything in her power to help Lucas remember.
As she walked to her car, Andrianne pulled out her phone and dialed Jackie’s number. She needed someone to talk to, someone who could understand what she was going through.
“Hey, how’s it going?” Jackie answered.
Andrianne took a deep breath. “Lucas has amnesia,” she said, her voice trembling.
“What? Oh my God, Andrianne, I’m so sorry,” Jackie said.
Andrianne could hear the concern in her friend’s voice, and it made her feel a little bit better. “I don’t know what to do,” she said, her voice breaking.
“Just take it one day at a time,” Jackie advised. “Lucas is lucky to have you by his side. You’ll get through this together.”
Andrianne nodded, taking comfort in Jackie’s words. She knew that the road ahead would be difficult, but she was ready to face it head-on. She would do whatever it took to help Lucas remember their love and the life they had built together.
Andrianne drove back to Jackie’s house with tears rolling down her face. She parked her car and took a deep breath before getting out. As she approached the house, Jackie was at the door waiting for her. She immediately noticed Andrianne’s red and puffy eyes, and took her into her arms.
“Andrianne, what happened? Are you okay?” Jackie asked, holding her tightly.
Andrianne sniffled and wiped her tears. “I went to see Lucas at the hospital, Jackie. He doesn’t remember me. He doesn’t remember anything about our life together,” she said, her voice shaking with emotion.
Jackie held her friend’s hand and led her inside. “I’m so sorry, Andrianne. That must be so hard for you,” she said, as she guided her to the couch.
Andrianne sat down and buried her face in her hands. “I don’t know what to do, Jackie. I feel so lost and alone.”
Jackie sat down next to her and put her arm around her. “You don’t have to figure it all out right now, Andrianne. Take your time to process everything. You have a lot going on with the pregnancy too,” she said, gently.
Andrianne looked up at her friend, her eyes full of gratitude. “Thank you, Jackie. I don’t know what I would do without you,” she said, her voice breaking.
Jackie gave her a small smile. “You don’t have to do anything alone, Andrianne. I’m here for you. Always.”
Andrianne leaned her head on Jackie’s shoulder and closed her eyes, feeling comforted by her friend’s words. She knew that she had a long road ahead of her, but she also knew that she had someone to lean on through it all.
