CH 103.
Emily walked into the hospital room, her eyes scanning the area until they landed on Lucas. He was sitting up in bed, staring into space, his expression blank. Emily felt a twinge of pity for him. He looked so lost, so vulnerable. But she quickly pushed those feelings aside. This was her chance to hatch her plan.
“Lucas,” she said softly, approaching his bed.
Lucas looked up at her, his eyes dull and lifeless. “Emily,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
“How are you feeling?” she asked, pulling up a chair and sitting down beside him.
Lucas shrugged. “I don’t really know,” he said, his eyes still fixed on some invisible point in the distance.
Emily leaned in closer. “Do you remember what happened?” she asked, trying to sound concerned.
Lucas shook his head slowly. “No,” he said, his voice barely audible. “I don’t remember anything.”
Emily’s heart raced with excitement. This was it. This was her chance to start fresh with Lucas, without Andrianne in the picture. “That’s okay,” she said soothingly. “We can help you remember. But for now, just focus on getting better.”
Lucas nodded weakly. “Okay,” he said, his eyes still vacant.
Emily watched him for a few moments longer before standing up to leave. “I’ll come back to visit you soon, okay?” she said, her tone gentle.
Lucas nodded again, his attention already drifting away from her. Emily walked out of the hospital room, a satisfied smile on her face. Lucas had lost his memory, and she was going to use that to her advantage.
As Emily made her way out of the hospital, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement building inside of her. This was her chance to get what she wanted – the money. And this time, nothing was going to stand in her way.
Emily sat on the plastic chair in the hospital hallway, staring blankly at the floor. She had been led to the doctor’s office by a nurse, who had told her that Lucas was acting strange and that they needed to talk to her. Emily had been confused at first, wondering what could be wrong with Lucas, but as soon as she heard the doctor’s words, she knew that her prayers had been answered.
“Miss, are you alright?” the nurse asked, snapping Emily out of her thoughts.
“Yes, I’m fine,” Emily replied, faking a sad expression. “It’s just that… I can’t believe this is happening. Lucas, with memory loss? It’s so sad.”
“I know,” the nurse said, placing a comforting hand on Emily’s shoulder. “But we’re doing everything we can to help him.”
Emily nodded, trying to look as worried as possible. Inwardly, however, she was ecstatic. This was her chance to get the money she needed and leave Lucas for good. She couldn’t believe her luck.
After a few minutes, the nurse led Emily to the doctor’s office, where they sat down to discuss Lucas’s condition.
“Miss,” the doctor said, “I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but Lucas has suffered from memory loss as a result of the accident. He doesn’t remember anything from the past few years, including his relationship with you.”
Emily gasped, placing a hand over her mouth. “Oh my God, that’s terrible,” she said, trying to sound sad. “Is there anything you can do to help him?”
“We’re doing everything we can, but it’s a complicated process,” the doctor replied. “It might take some time before he recovers his memory.”
Emily nodded, thinking about what the doctor had said. She knew that she had to act fast if she wanted to get the money and leave Lucas. She couldn’t wait for him to recover his memory and realize that she had been using him all along.
“Thank you, doctor,” Emily said, standing up from her seat. “I really appreciate everything you’re doing for Lucas.”
The doctor nodded, and Emily walked out of the office, her mind racing. She knew that she had to come up with a plan, and fast. She had to find a way to get the money she needed before it was too late.
As she drove home, Emily couldn’t help but feel excited. This was her chance to get everything she had ever wanted, and she wasn’t going to let it slip away. She thought about all the things she could buy with the money, all the places she could go, all the things she could do.
Emily was exhilarated with the knowledge that Lucas had lost his memory. She had always wanted to be rid of him, but now it seemed like fate had given her the perfect opportunity. As she drove home, her mind raced with ideas on how to get enough money to leave Lucas.
She knew that she had to act quickly before his memory returned and he would remember all the terrible things she had done to him. Emily also knew that she couldn’t just leave empty-handed, as Lucas had been the one providing for her.
She contemplated all the ways she could get the money she needed, from selling the jewelry Lucas had given her to taking out a loan. Emily even considered selling some of their household items, but she knew that it wouldn’t be enough.
Her thoughts were interrupted by her phone ringing, and she saw that it was her friend Lisa calling. Emily picked up the phone and heard Lisa’s cheerful voice on the other end.
“Hey, Emily! How are you doing? It’s been a while since we last spoke,” Lisa said.
“I’m doing okay,” Emily replied, trying to keep her excitement in check.
“That’s good to hear. Listen, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out sometime this week. I know a great spot that just opened up downtown.”
Emily’s mind started racing again. Maybe Lisa could lend her the money she needed. She decided to take a chance and ask.
“Actually, Lisa, I’m in a bit of a tough spot right now. I need some money, and I was wondering if you could help me out?”
“Sure, I can lend you some money. How much do you need?”
Emily couldn’t believe her luck. “I need about $10, 000. I can pay you back in a few months.”
Lisa hesitated for a moment before responding. “Okay, I can do that for you. But you have to promise to pay me back.”
“I promise,” Emily replied, relieved.
“Alright, I’ll transfer the money to your account later today.”
Emily hung up the phone and let out a deep sigh of relief. With the money from Lisa, she could finally leave Lucas for good. She knew that she had to act fast before his memory returned, but she also knew that she had to be patient and act nice towards him until she had enough money to leave.
Emily smiled to herself, feeling like the luckiest woman in the world. She was finally going to be free from Lucas’s control and start a new life.
