CH 97.
Andrianne’s heart dropped when she received the call from Lucas’s father. She had just sat down with her lawyer David to discuss the divorce proceedings when her phone rang. She answered without hesitation, hoping it wasn’t bad news.
“Hello?” Andrianne said, trying to keep the tremble out of her voice.
“Andrianne, it’s Mr. Williams. I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but Lucas was in a car accident last night. He’s at the hospital right now, and I think you should come.”
Andrianne felt her stomach twist in knots. “Is he okay? What happened?”
“I don’t have all the details, but it seems like he’s in critical condition. The doctors are doing everything they can, but they need all the support they can get right now. Please come.”
Andrianne hung up the phone and looked at David. He could see the fear in her eyes and immediately knew something was wrong.
“What’s going on?” David asked.
Andrianne’s voice was barely above a whisper. “Lucas was in a car accident. He’s at the hospital right now.”
David stood up and put a reassuring hand on Andrianne’s shoulder. “Let’s go. We’ll deal with everything else later. Right now, Lucas needs you.”
Andrianne nodded, grateful for David’s support. They quickly left the office and made their way to the hospital. Andrianne’s mind was racing with thoughts and questions, but she tried to push them aside and focus on getting to Lucas.
When she arrived at the hospital, Andrianne was met by a group of nurses and doctors who led her to Lucas’s room. She could see him lying on the hospital bed, hooked up to various machines and monitors. His face was bruised and cut, and he looked so small and vulnerable.
Andrianne’s heart broke at the sight of him. She had never seen Lucas look so helpless before. She went to his bedside and took his hand in hers.
“Lucas,” she said softly. “I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”
Lucas stirred and opened his eyes slowly. He looked confused and disoriented for a moment, but then he saw Andrianne and his eyes widened with recognition.
“Andrianne,” he whispered, his voice barely audible. “I’m sorry.”
Andrianne squeezed his hand gently. “Shh, don’t talk. You need to rest.”
Lucas tried to speak again, but his words were slurred and barely intelligible. Andrianne knew that he was heavily sedated and in a lot of pain.
She turned to the nurse who had been monitoring Lucas’s vital signs. “Can you please tell me what happened?”
The nurse hesitated for a moment, then spoke in a gentle voice. “Mr. Lucas was in a car accident last night. He was brought in with multiple injuries, including a severe head injury. We’ve stabilized him for now, but he’s still in critical condition.”
Andrianne felt a lump form in her throat. “Is he going to be okay?”
The nurse shook her head. “It’s too early to tell. We’re doing everything we can, but it’s really up to him now.”
Andrianne turned back to Lucas and leaned in close to him. “Lucas, please fight. Don’t give up. I need you.”
Lucas’s eyes closed again, and he drifted off into a deep sleep. Andrianne sat by his bedside, holding his hand and praying for a miracle.
Emily walked back into the private ward, her eyes focused on the bed where Lucas laid motionless. She walked up to the bed, only to find Andrianne standing by his side. The sight of Andrianne standing there, looking at Lucas with so much concern and love made Emily’s blood boil with anger. She couldn’t believe that Andrianne was still in Lucas’s life, even after everything that had happened.
“What are you doing here?” Emily asked, her voice laced with anger.
“I heard about the accident, so I came to see how he was doing,” Andrianne replied calmly, her eyes fixed on Lucas’s face.
“Well, I’m here now, and I don’t want you around him. You’re old news, Andrianne. You have no place in Lucas’s life anymore,” Emily spat out the words with venom.
Andrianne turned to face Emily, her expression stoic. “I understand how you feel, Emily. But Lucas and I have a history. We have a child together. You can’t just erase that from his life.”
“I’m not trying to erase anything. I’m just telling you that you’re not welcome here. Lucas doesn’t need you,” Emily retorted, her voice raising.
Andrianne took a deep breath, trying to control her emotions. “I’m not leaving, Emily. I have every right to be here. Lucas is my husband, and I still care about him. Whether you like it or not, I’m staying.”
Emily’s anger only increased at Andrianne’s words. She felt a deep sense of jealousy and insecurity. “You still love him, don’t you?”
Andrianne didn’t answer, but the look on her face said it all. Emily felt a surge of anger and walked towards Andrianne. “You’re pathetic. You had your chance with him, and you blew it. Now he’s with me, and you can’t stand it. Just leave and let us be.”
Andrianne didn’t move, and Emily continued to berate her. It wasn’t until Lucas’s father walked into the room that Emily stopped her tirade.
“Emily, calm down. Andrianne is right, she has every right to be here. Lucas is her husband, and they have a child together. You need to respect that,” Mr. Grant said firmly.
Emily’s anger dissipated a bit, but she still felt a sense of insecurity and jealousy. “Fine. But I don’t have to like it,” she muttered, turning away from Andrianne and walking towards the window.
Andrianne turned back to Lucas and took his hand, her eyes filled with tears. “I’m so sorry, Lucas. I never meant for any of this to happen,” she whispered, her voice choked with emotion.
Lucas stirred in his sleep, muttering Andrianne’s name. Andrianne squeezed his hand tightly, hoping he would wake up soon.
