CH 81.
Lucas sat at his desk, his eyes focused on the computer screen in front of him. He was going through some reports that his team had submitted, but his mind kept drifting to Andrianne. He couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was off between them.
He tried to push the thoughts to the back of his mind and concentrate on work, but they kept creeping back. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, trying to clear his mind. It was then he realized he couldn’t tell Andrianne the whole truth about his birthday night. The thought of lying to her made him feel sick to his stomach.
As he opened his eyes, he couldn’t help but wonder what Andrianne was doing at that moment. Was she still upset with him? Was she thinking about him like he was thinking about her?
Lucas shook his head and refocused on his work, trying to push away the thoughts of Andrianne. He had deadlines to meet, reports to review, and meetings to attend.
His phone rang, interrupting his thoughts. It was Sarah, his assistant. “Gooday Sir, Mr. Johnson from the bank is on the line for you.”
Lucas nodded, “Thanks, Sarah. I’ll take it in my office.”
He picked up the phone and greeted Mr. Johnson. They discussed business for a while, and Lucas was glad for the distraction. He didn’t want to think about Andrianne anymore. It was too painful.
As the call ended, Lucas looked at his watch and realized it was already late in the afternoon. He had been working for hours, and his stomach was grumbling.
He got up from his chair and decided to take a break. He walked over to the kitchenette and poured himself a cup of coffee. As he sipped his coffee, he looked out the window and saw the city skyline. It was a beautiful view, but it didn’t distract him for long.
His thoughts returned to Andrianne, and he couldn’t help but wonder if he had made a mistake. He had never felt this way about anyone before, and he didn’t want to lose her.
Lucas shook his head and tried to clear his thoughts again. He had to focus on work. He had a presentation to prepare for tomorrow’s meeting with a potential client, and he couldn’t afford to mess it up.
Lucas sat in his office, sipping his coffee and trying to concentrate on his work. He had been struggling to keep his mind off Adrianne for days, but it seemed impossible. He was still reeling from the guilt of what had happened on his birthday, and the fear that Emily would reveal it to Adrianne was eating away at him.
Suddenly, the door to his office swung open and Emily walked in, a wicked smile on her face. Lucas felt his stomach sink. He knew he was in for trouble. “Emily, what are you doing here?” he asked, trying to keep his tone neutral.
“I just wanted to see you, baby,” she cooed, walking up to him and trying to plant a kiss on his lips. Lucas quickly shoved her aside, causing her to stumble.
“What’s wrong with you?” she snapped, pouting. “I thought we were still together.”
“We’re not together, Emily,” Lucas said firmly. “I told you that. I have a girlfriend.”
“Oh, come on, Lucas,” Emily whined. “Adrianne doesn’t have to know about us. We can keep it a secret.”
“That’s not the point, Emily,” Lucas said, his voice rising. “I don’t want to be with you. I never did. I made a mistake, and I’m sorry for that, but it’s over. We’re over.”
Emily’s expression changed from hurt to furious. “You know what, Lucas? Fine. If you want to break up with me, that’s your choice. But I have something to tell you first.” She reached into her purse and pulled out a folded piece of paper. “Take a look at this.”
Lucas unfolded the paper and his heart sank as he read the words. “Positive,” he muttered, looking up at Emily. “What does this mean?”
“It means I’m pregnant, Lucas,” Emily said, a smug look on her face. “And if you try to leave me now, I’ll tell Adrianne everything.”
Lucas felt the blood drain from his face. He couldn’t believe this was happening. “How do I know this is even real?” he demanded.
Emily reached into her purse again and pulled out a small plastic stick. “Here’s the proof,” she said, thrusting it towards him.
Lucas stared at the stick in horror. It was a positive pregnancy test. He had no doubt now that Emily was telling the truth. He felt trapped, suffocated, and terrified all at once.
“What do you want from me, Emily?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
“I want you to be with me, Lucas,” she said, her voice softening. “I know we can make this work. We can be a family. Think about it. It doesn’t have to be this way.”
Lucas knew she was right. It didn’t have to be this way. But he also knew that he couldn’t be with Emily. Not after what she had done. Not after the way she had manipulated him. But he also knew that he couldn’t risk losing Adrianne. He was torn between two impossible choices.
“I need some time to think,” he said, his voice breaking. “Please, Emily. Just give me some time.”
“Okay,” she said, her tone gentle. “I’ll give you all the time you need. But don’t take too long, Lucas. We have a baby to think about.” She leaned in and kissed him on the cheek before turning to leave.
Lucas sat at his desk, his head in his hands. He didn’t know what to do. He didn’t know how to fix this mess. He felt like he was drowning, He leaned back in his chair, running a hand through his hair as he tried to think of a solution. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t think of a way out of this mess. He was trapped, and he didn’t know what to do next.
