Chapter 72
Andrianne met with her lawyer, David, in a quiet restaurant in downtown. The walls were decorated with various paintings and the dim lights created a serene atmosphere. They ordered some drinks and food before settling down to business.
David listened attentively as Andrianne narrated everything that had happened leading up to Steve’s death. She explained how she had walked into the room and found Steve attacking her husband. She described in detail how she had tried to pull Steve off Lucas, but he had turned on her and had started choking her. She recounted how she had grabbed the gun and had fired in self-defense.
David nodded as Andrianne spoke. “I see,” he said after she had finished. “That is certainly a case of self-defense. However, we need to be careful with the evidence against your husband. If we don’t handle this well, he could end up facing charges for the murder of Steve.”
Andrianne nodded, her face grim. “I know,” she said. “That’s why I need you to help me. I don’t want Lucas to go to jail for something he didn’t do.”
David placed a reassuring hand on Andrianne’s arm. “I understand, Andrianne. We will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served. But we need to be patient and strategic.”
Andrianne nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She knew she could trust David to handle things professionally.
They spent the next few hours going over the details of the case and discussing possible strategies. David gave Andrianne some homework, asking her to write down every single detail she could remember from that fateful night. He also asked her to gather any evidence that could help their case.
As they left the restaurant, Andrianne felt a sense of optimism. She knew that things were far from over, but at least she had a good lawyer on her side. She hugged David and thanked him for his time before heading back to her car.
As she drove back home, she couldn’t help but think about what the future held for her and Lucas. She knew that they were facing a tough road ahead, but she was determined to fight for their future together.
On a second thought, Andrianne thought it was best to tell David exactly how Steve had died,
David listened carefully to Andrianne’s story, taking notes and asking questions when necessary. As she spoke, he could see the pain and fear etched on her face, and he knew that this was a very delicate situation.
“Andrianne, I understand how difficult this must be for you,” David said, placing a reassuring hand on her arm. “But you have to understand that the authorities will be looking at this very closely. They will want to know why you had a gun in the first place, and why you felt the need to use it.”
“I know,” Andrianne replied, her voice trembling slightly. “But I swear, David, I never meant to hurt anyone. I was just trying to protect my husband.”
David nodded sympathetically. “I believe you, Andrianne. But we need to make sure that we have all the facts straight before we talk to the authorities. You mentioned that there were some witnesses. Do you have their contact information?”
Andrianne shook her head. “No, I didn’t get a chance to talk to them. They were gone by the time the police arrived.”
David frowned. “That could complicate things. We need to find those witnesses and get their statements as soon as possible. And we also need to get your husband’s side of the story.”
“I know,” Andrianne said, her voice barely above a whisper. “But how do we do that? He’s still in custody, and his father’s lawyers are doing everything they can to keep him there.”
David sighed. “It won’t be easy, but we have to try. We need to gather as much evidence as we can to prove that this was a case of self-defense. And we also need to make sure that your rights are protected throughout this process.”
Andrianne nodded, feeling a small glimmer of hope. “Thank you, David. I don’t know what I would do without you.”
David smiled reassuringly. “Don’t worry, Andrianne. We’ll get through this together.”
As they continued to discuss the case, David made notes and asked more questions to get a better understanding of what had happened. He knew that this was a very sensitive case and that they needed to be very careful in how they proceeded. But he was determined to help Andrianne and her husband in any way he could.
Andrianne felt a sense of relief wash over her as she talked to David. It was comforting to know that she had someone on her side who was willing to fight for her and her husband. She knew that it wouldn’t be an easy road ahead, but with David’s help, she felt more hopeful about the future.
As she left David’s office, Andrianne took a deep breath and tried to compose herself. She knew that there was still a long way to go, but she felt more determined than ever to clear her husband’s name and ensure that justice was served.
Jackie had been spending more and more time at Andrianne’s mansion lately. She knew her friend was going through a lot with her husband’s arrest and the impending trial, so she wanted to be there for her as much as possible.
One afternoon, as they sat in the living room together, Andrianne looked up at Jackie with a grateful smile. “I don’t know what I’d do without you,” she said.
Jackie squeezed her friend’s hand. “You don’t have to do anything alone. I’m here for you, always.”
Andrianne’s eyes welled up with tears. “I don’t know how to thank you. You’ve been so supportive through all of this.”
“Of course,” Jackie said. “That’s what friends are for. We stick together through thick and thin.”
Andrianne wiped her eyes and took a deep breath. “I just feel so alone sometimes. Like nobody understands what I’m going through.”
Jackie leaned in closer. “I understand more than you know. I may not have been in your exact situation, but I’ve been through my own share of tough times.”
Andrianne looked at her friend with curiosity. “What do you mean?”
“Well, when I was going through my divorce, I felt like my whole world was falling apart,” Jackie explained. “I didn’t think I could make it through without my ex-husband. But I did, and you will too.”
Andrianne smiled faintly. “I hope so.”
“I know so,” Jackie said firmly. “And we’ll get through this trial together, no matter what happens. I promise.”
Andrianne nodded, feeling a glimmer of hope. “Thank you, Jackie. That means the world to me.”
Jackie gave her friend’s hand one final squeeze before standing up. “Now, let’s go make some dinner. I’m starving!”
Andrianne laughed, grateful for the distraction. As they headed to the kitchen, she felt a sense of comfort knowing that Jackie was there for her.
