CH 60.
As the days went by, Andrianne and Lucas’s fears of the police investigation into Steve’s death intensified. They had been living in fear, waiting for the inevitable to happen. They both knew that they had to be careful, especially Andrianne, as she was Steve’s last known contact before his untimely demise.
One day, as they were sitting in the living room, Andrianne finally broke the silence, “Lucas, what if the police come knocking on our door? What are we going to do?”
Lucas looked at her with a worried expression on his face, “I don’t know, Andrianne. I wish there was something we could do, but we can’t change what’s already happened.”
Andrianne nodded slowly, “I know, but what if they find out that I had something to do with Steve’s death? I don’t know how I’m going to live with myself if that happens.”
Lucas reached over and took her hand, “Hey, don’t worry about it. We’ll figure something out. We can’t change the past, but we can control the present and the future. We just have to be careful and make sure that we don’t leave any traces behind.”
Andrianne let out a small sigh of relief, “You’re right. We just have to be careful and hope for the best.”
Lucas smiled at her, “Exactly. Now, let’s not worry about this anymore. Let’s focus on getting you and me better, and enjoying each other’s company.”
Andrianne smiled back at him, feeling grateful for his comforting words. They spent the rest of the evening talking about their hopes and dreams, distracting themselves from their worries.
The next few days went by without any incident, but Andrianne’s anxiety only grew stronger. She was constantly looking over her shoulder, wondering if the police were following her or if they were tapping her phone.
One day, as she was walking back from the grocery store, she noticed a car parked across the street from her house. She quickly went inside and told Lucas, who immediately went to investigate.
As he got closer to the car, he noticed that there were two men sitting inside. He recognized them as police officers, and his heart sank.
He quickly went back inside and told Andrianne what he saw. They both knew that they had to act fast, but they didn’t know what to do.
Lucas thought for a moment, “I have an idea. I’ll go outside and distract them while you gather all the evidence and dispose of it.”
Andrianne nodded, “Okay, be careful.”
Lucas went outside and approached the police officers, “Can I help you officers?”
The officers looked at him suspiciously, “We’re just doing some routine surveillance. Is there a problem?”
Lucas shook his head, “No, I was just curious. I’ve never seen a police car parked here before.”
The officers exchanged a look, “Well, we have reason to believe that there may be some criminal activity going on in this area. We’re just keeping an eye out.”
Lucas nodded, “I understand. Well, if you need any help, don’t hesitate to ask.”
The officers thanked him and Lucas went back inside. Andrianne had already gathered all the evidence and disposed of it, but they both knew that this was only a temporary solution.
As the days went by, their anxiety only grew stronger. They knew that they had to be careful, but they also knew that they couldn’t live in fear forever. They had to come up with a plan.
One evening, as they were sitting on the couch watching TV, Andrianne suddenly sat up, “I have an idea!”
As the days went by, Andrianne and Lucas had started to fall into a comfortable routine at home. Lucas was gradually regaining his strength, and Andrianne was taking care of him with utmost care. Despite their increasing closeness, they still had an unspoken fear that was weighing heavily on their minds.
Andrianne knew that her father would do everything in his power to protect her, but she was still worried that the police might trace Steve’s death back to her. She knew that Steve had been one of her father’s most trusted men, and if the police suspected that her father was involved, it would only be a matter of time before they traced it back to her.
Lucas, on the other hand, was worried that Andrianne might get into trouble because of him. He knew that Steve had kidnapped him to get back at Andrianne’s father, and he couldn’t help but feel guilty for being the reason behind everything that had happened.
They both tried to push the thoughts away and focus on their present, but it was always at the back of their minds. They spent most of their time together talking about anything and everything, trying to keep their minds off the looming danger.
One evening, as they sat on the couch watching a movie, Andrianne suddenly spoke up.
“Lucas, I know we haven’t talked about it, but I’m really worried about the police. What if they trace everything back to me? My father can only do so much to protect me.”
Lucas took her hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. “We’ll figure it out, Andrianne. We’ll make sure that nothing happens to you.”
Andrianne smiled at him, grateful for his words of comfort. “Thank you, Lucas. I don’t know what I would do without you.”
Lucas leaned in and kissed her on the forehead. “You don’t have to worry about that. I’m not going anywhere.”
They continued watching the movie, but their thoughts were still on the looming danger. They both knew that they had to be careful and stay under the radar until things calmed down.
As the movie ended, Andrianne got up to make some tea. Lucas watched her as she moved around the kitchen, the fear in her eyes evident.
“We’ll get through this, Andrianne,” Lucas said, trying to reassure her once more.
Andrianne turned around and gave him a small smile. “I know we will, Lucas. I’m just scared.”
Lucas got up and walked over to her, wrapping his arms around her. “I’m scared too, Andrianne. But we’ll face whatever comes together.”
Andrianne leaned into his embrace, feeling safe and loved. They stood like that for a few moments before breaking apart.
Andrianne poured the tea into two mugs and handed one to Lucas. As they sat down at the kitchen table, they both knew that they had to stay strong and face whatever was coming their way, together.
