CH 59.
Just then, the door opened and the doctor walked in. He smiled when he saw Lucas up and about, and quickly got to work checking his vital signs and making sure he was ready to be discharged.
“Well, Mr. Smith, it looks like you’re ready to go home,” the doctor said with a smile. “I’ve written you a prescription for some medication to take at home, and I want you to come back for a follow-up appointment in a week.”
Lucas nodded his understanding as Andrianne packed up his belongings. He was relieved to be leaving the hospital, eager to get back to his own bed and start the process of healing.
As they walked out of the hospital, Lucas took a deep breath of fresh air and let out a contented sigh. Andrianne looked over at him with concern, wondering if he was feeling okay.
“I’m just so glad to be out of there,” Lucas explained. “I’m feeling much better, and I can’t wait to get home.”
Andrianne smiled at him, happy to see him in better spirits. She knew that he had been through a lot in the past few days, and she was grateful that he was finally on the road to recovery.
As they drove home, Lucas chatted excitedly about all the things he was looking forward to doing once he was fully recovered. Andrianne listened intently, happy to see him so full of life and energy.
When they finally arrived home, Lucas practically ran to his bed and collapsed onto it with a contented sigh. Andrianne watched him for a moment before gently reminding him to take his medication.
“I almost forgot,” Lucas laughed, popping the pills into his mouth and washing them down with water.
As the medication started to take effect, Lucas slowly drifted off to sleep, a small smile on his face. Andrianne watched over him for a moment, grateful to be there to help take care of him.
“I’m just so glad you’re okay,” she whispered softly as she leaned over to give him a gentle kiss on the forehead. “I’ll be right here if you need me.”
Andrianne drove cautiously as she had Lucas sitting beside her, slumped in his seat with his eyes shut. The medication he was given at the hospital had knocked him out almost immediately after they had left. She couldn’t help but steal glances at him from time to time as she drove.
She noticed how peaceful he looked while he slept, his breathing even and steady. She could hear the soft hum of his breath, and it was a comforting sound to her. She wondered how much he must have gone through to end up in the hospital, and she felt a surge of guilt that she couldn’t have been there to protect him.
As they approached a traffic light, Andrianne took the opportunity to take a longer glance at Lucas. She couldn’t help but feel drawn to him, not just because he was her husband, but also because of the person he was. His bravery during the kidnapping had caught her attention, and she couldn’t help but admire him.
Andrianne turned to look back at the road, a blush creeping up her cheeks. She had been caught staring, and she didn’t want to make things awkward between them. She concentrated on driving, making sure that they arrived at their destination safely.
The drive was uneventful, and soon they were pulling up in front of their house. Andrianne gently nudged Lucas awake, and he blinked a few times, looking around confusedly before realizing where he was.
“Hey, we’re home,” Andrianne said softly, giving him a small smile.
Lucas rubbed his eyes and yawned before slowly getting out of the car. Andrianne followed him inside, making sure he settled down comfortably on the couch.
“I’ll go make us something to eat,” Andrianne said, heading towards the kitchen.
Lucas nodded, yawning again. “Thanks, Andrianne,” he said, closing his eyes as he leaned back against the cushions.
Andrianne couldn’t help but feel a pang of worry as she looked at him. She wondered what his life must have been like before they had gotten married and whether he was happy being with her. She knew that she had to find a way to ask him without coming off as too forward, but for now, she would focus on taking care of him.
Andrianne made her way to the kitchen, feeling slightly nervous but also excited to cook dinner for Lucas. She knew she had to keep things simple since she didn’t have a lot of experience in cooking, but she was determined to make it special. She started by pulling out some chicken breasts from the fridge and seasoning them with her favorite spices.
As the chicken marinated, Andrianne thought about what sides she wanted to make. She settled on roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes. She cut up some bell peppers, zucchini, and carrots and tossed them in olive oil before putting them in the oven to roast. For the mashed potatoes, she boiled some potatoes and mashed them with butter, milk, and a little bit of garlic.
While the vegetables roasted and the potatoes boiled, Andrianne checked on Lucas who was still asleep on the couch. She smiled as she watched him sleep, feeling grateful that he was safe and home with her. After a while, Lucas began to stir and wake up.
Andrianne walked over to him and said, “Hey, how are you feeling?”
Lucas rubbed his eyes and replied, “I feel better, thanks. Did I sleep for a long time?”
Andrianne laughed and said, “You did, but that’s okay. I’m just glad you’re feeling better.”
Lucas sat up on the couch and stretched, his muscles still sore from his injury. Andrianne watched him with concern, making sure he wasn’t in any pain. After a few minutes, she suggested they eat dinner and he agreed.
They sat at the dining table together and Andrianne served them the chicken, roasted vegetables, and mashed potatoes. She watched nervously as Lucas took his first bite, hoping he would like it.
He closed his eyes and let out a small moan of pleasure, causing Andrianne to blush. “This is amazing,” he said with a smile.
Andrianne felt a sense of relief and happiness wash over her. They ate in silence for a while, enjoying the meal and each other’s company. As they finished, Andrianne asked, “Do you want anything else?”
Lucas shook his head and said, “No, this was perfect. Thank you, Andrianne.”
She smiled and said, “You’re welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed it.”
After they cleaned up, Andrianne suggested they watch a movie together. They settled on a romantic comedy and snuggled up on the couch together. As they watched the movie, Andrianne couldn’t help but steal glances at Lucas, feeling more and more drawn to him.
As the movie ended and they said their goodnights, Andrianne realized that she had fallen for Lucas, but she wasn’t sure if he felt the same way. She went to bed that night with a mixture of excitement and apprehension, wondering what the future held for them.
