CHAPTER 36.
Andrianne followed Lucas back to their home, her mind still reeling from the revelation that Steve was now her bodyguard. She couldn’t believe her father would send him, of all people, to protect her. As they entered the house, Steve greeted them with a warm smile, but Andrianne could see the twinkle in his eye as he exchanged a knowing look with her.
Lucas seemed pleased with Steve’s presence and even asked about his qualifications as a bodyguard. Andrianne sat in silence, unable to voice her thoughts or feelings about the situation. Steve explained that he had extensive training in martial arts and self-defense, as well as experience working in security.
After the brief introduction, Steve escorted Andrianne to her room, assuring her that he would do everything in his power to protect her. As they walked, Andrianne couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease. She had so many questions for Steve, but she didn’t know where to begin.
When they arrived at her room, Steve stood at attention outside her door while she went inside to change. When she came out of the room, she stared at Steve.
As she looked at Steve with an expression of anger and confusion, Steve stood there calmly with a small smirk on his face. He had no intentions of leaving, especially since he had been appointed as her bodyguard by her father.
“Steve, I think it’s best if you leave,” Andrianne said, her voice firm but polite.
“I’m afraid I can’t do that, Miss Andrianne. Your father specifically hired me to protect you and I take my job very seriously,” Steve replied, his voice steady and unwavering.
Lucas, who had just walked into the room, noticed the tension between Andrianne and Steve. “Is everything okay here?” he asked, looking between the two.
Andrianne quickly composed herself and replied, “Yes, everything’s fine. Steve was just telling me about his plans for keeping me safe.”
Steve nodded in agreement, not wanting to reveal the real reason why he was there. He knew that Andrianne wouldn’t want him around if she knew the truth about their past relationship.
Lucas seemed satisfied with the explanation and moved on to talk about the upcoming business trip. Andrianne sat there quietly, her mind still racing with questions about Steve’s sudden appearance.
As the conversation continued, Steve couldn’t help but steal glances at Andrianne. He missed her and the memories of their past flooded his mind. He wondered if she still had feelings for him or if she had moved on.
Andrianne, on the other hand, was trying her best to avoid Steve’s gaze. She knew that seeing him again after all these years would bring back memories and emotions she had buried deep inside.
The tension in the room was palpable and Andrianne couldn’t wait for the meeting to be over so she could have some time to think. As the meeting finally ended, Steve made his way to the door to leave but not before exchanging a knowing look with Andrianne.
She couldn’t help but wonder why her father had specifically chosen Steve to be her bodyguard. Was it just a coincidence or was there something more? The thought kept her up all night and she knew that she wouldn’t rest until she found out the truth.
The next day, as she got ready for work, Andrianne made a decision. She would confront her father and demand to know the reason behind his choice of bodyguard. She was determined to get to the bottom of this, even if it meant facing the demons of her past.
Little did she know that her quest for answers would lead her down a dangerous path, one that could potentially put her life in danger. The mystery surrounding Steve’s sudden appearance in her life was just beginning, and Andrianne was about to uncover a truth that would change everything she thought she knew about her past.
Andrianne groggily walked down the stairs, still half-asleep, and reached for the coffee maker. As she poured the steaming hot liquid into her mug, she heard footsteps behind her. She turned around to see Steve standing there, his piercing blue eyes fixed on her.
“Good morning, Andrianne,” he said with a smile.
Andrianne froze, unsure of how to react. She had thought Steve was gone, out of her life for good. But here he was, standing in her kitchen, looking as handsome as ever.
“Steve,” she murmured, feeling a flutter in her chest.
“I know we have a lot to talk about,” Steve said, his voice softening. “But can we sit down and talk about it?”
Andrianne hesitated, still unsure if she wanted to have this conversation. But before she could answer, Lucas walked in on them.
“Good morning, you two,” Lucas greeted them, unaware of the tension in the room.
Andrianne felt her heart skip a beat. She didn’t want Lucas to know about her past with Steve. She didn’t want to see the disappointment in his eyes.
“What were you two talking about?” Lucas asked, sensing something was off.
Steve smiled at Lucas, but then turned to Andrianne. “I meant no offense, Andrianne. I was just admiring the love you two share. It’s rare to see a couple so devoted to each other these days.”
Lucas raised an eyebrow, looking a bit surprised at Steve’s comment. “Well, I’m sure a lot of people find my wife beautiful. But thank you for the compliment,” he replied, his tone slightly cautious.
Lucas seemed to be impressed with Steve and asked him about his experience in the security industry. Steve talked about his past assignments and how he was able to handle difficult situations. Lucas was satisfied with his answers and thanked him for taking on the job.
Andrianne was still in her room, trying to calm herself down. She knew she couldn’t avoid Steve forever and she needed to figure out how to deal with the situation. She decided to confront Steve and ask him why he took the job.
