CHAPTER 35.
Meanwhile, Adrianne was in her bedroom, feeling frustrated and trapped. She knew she had no choice but to accept the bodyguard, but the thought of having someone following her around all day made her uneasy. She sighed, knowing she couldn’t fight her father’s decision.
As she sat on her bed lost in thought, there was a knock on her door. “Adrianne, it’s me,” Lucas called out.
“Come in,” she replied, straightening up.
Lucas entered the room, a serious expression on his face. “We need to talk,” he said, taking a seat beside her on the bed.
Adrianne’s heart started racing. “What is it?” she asked, her voice trembling.
Lucas took a deep breath. “Your father is sending a bodyguard to keep you safe,” he said, watching her closely for her reaction.
Adrianne’s eyes widened in shock. “What? Why?” she demanded.
Lucas explained the situation, and despite her protests, Adrianne knew there was no way around it. “I understand,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady. “But I don’t like the idea of having someone following me around all day.”
“I know, and I’m sorry,” Lucas said, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. “But your safety is my top priority. I’ll make sure the guard is discreet and professional.”
Adrianne sighed, knowing she had no choice. “Okay,” she said, resigned. “But I don’t have to like it.”
Lucas gave her a small smile. “I know. And I don’t blame you. But trust me, I’ll do everything in my power to make sure you’re safe.”
“Thank you,” Andrianne managed to mutter under her breath.
Adrianne couldn’t stop thinking about the conversation she had with Lucas. She knew that getting a bodyguard meant that her father was serious about keeping her in the marriage. Her father was known for his extreme measures when it came to getting what he wanted, and Adrianne knew that this bodyguard could be a potential threat to her safety.
As she lay in bed, she heard the sounds of the night, the crickets chirping, the rustling of leaves, and the distant sound of a car driving by. She wondered what the bodyguard would look like and how he would behave. She hoped that he would be kind and understanding, but she had her doubts.
As the night wore on, Adrianne’s mind raced with thoughts and questions. She couldn’t shake off the feeling that her father was up to something. She had to be on her guard at all times. She knew that Lucas would do everything in his power to keep her safe, but she also knew that her father was capable of anything.
Andrianne lay on her bed, her body still, her breaths slow and steady. The soft sunlight that filtered in through the window cast a warm glow over her face, making her appear almost angelic. Her long, dark hair was spread out on the pillow beneath her, framing her delicate features.
The silence of the room was broken only by the gentle hum of the air conditioner and the distant sounds of birds chirping outside. Andrianne seemed lost in her dreams, her mind wandering through different thoughts and images.
As she slept, her thoughts were filled with images of her mother, of the days they spent together before she died. She remembered how they used to sit together in the garden, talking and laughing, and how her mother would always tell her that everything would be alright.
But now, everything felt so uncertain. Her father’s threats hung over her head like a dark cloud, and the presence of the bodyguard made her feel even more trapped. She wondered what kind of life she would have now, whether she would ever be able to escape her father’s control.
But for now, she remained lost in her dreams, her body wrapped in a cocoon of warmth and safety. The world outside would have to wait, for a little while longer.
Lucas knocked on Andrianne’s door, and she quickly sat up on her bed. “Come in,” she called out.
Lucas stepped inside and looked at her with concern. “Are you feeling okay?” he asked.
Andrianne nodded. “Yes, I’m fine. Just tired,” she replied, rubbing her eyes.
Lucas gave her a sympathetic smile. “I understand. It’s been a difficult time for you,” he said. “But we have to keep moving forward.”
Andrianne sighed and nodded. “I know. So, the bodyguard is waiting for me?” she asked, changing the subject.
Lucas nodded. “Yes, he is. But take your time getting ready. I’ll be downstairs waiting for you.”
Andrianne nodded and watched as Lucas left her room. She took a deep breath and got out of bed, making her way to the bathroom to freshen up.
As she dressed, Andrianne couldn’t help but feel uneasy about having a bodyguard. She had never needed one before, and the thought of having someone constantly watching her every move made her feel trapped. But she knew she didn’t have a choice if she wanted to stay safe.
Andrianne took a deep breath and descended the stairs with Lucas following behind her. As she reached the bottom step, she stopped in her tracks, her heart racing as she saw the face of the bodyguard her father had hired for her safety. Steve.
For a moment, Andrianne’s mind went blank, and she felt like she was going to faint. She could feel her palms getting sweaty, and her heart was pounding against her chest so hard that she thought it might burst. Andrianne couldn’t believe what she was seeing. How could her father send Steve to be her bodyguard?
“Steve,” Andrianne said, her voice barely above a whisper. “What are you doing here?”
Steve looked at her with a smile on his face. “I’m your bodyguard,” he said, his voice calm and collected.
Andrianne felt a rush of emotions coursing through her veins. She was angry, confused, and scared all at the same time. How could her father do this to her? Didn’t he know the kind of relationship she shared with him?
Lucas, who had been silent all this while, finally spoke up. “Is everything okay?” he asked, looking from Andrianne to Steve.
“I’m fine,” Andrianne finally said, forcing a smile on her face. “Let’s go.”
Andrianne walked past Steve, her heart racing as she made her way to the door. Lucas followed her, but Andrianne could feel Steve’s eyes on her as she walked away. She didn’t know what was going to happen next, but one thing was for sure: things were never going to be the same between her and Steve.
