The interaction between Elena and Henry indicated strong chemistry between them. They looked like a couple, even though they did not flirt with each other. Henry helped Elena to a seat next to Lois. Elena held her friend’s hand as she sat down.
Two hours had gone by, but Layla was still in surgery. Everyone was worried as they had no news about their friend’s situation yet.
The two members from the Miller family tried their best to think of ways to get close to Second Young Master Sharp while everyone else was worried about Layla. They were worried that if they were to miss the chance, they would not have another opportunity in the future. How would they meet a prominent figure like Second Young Master Sharp in the future?
Blair and Rosalie glanced at each other. Rosalie discreetly nudged Blair again. Blair summoned some courage and walked toward Henry with a smile on his face.
“Second Young Master Sharp, we’d like to thank you for sending Layla to the hospital. We hope to invite you to have dinner with us tonight…”
“Your daughter is still in surgery, and we’re not even sure if she’s alive, and you want to talk about dinner with me?”
Henry never thought such shameless parents existed in the world! Layla looked very carefree, and she was an optimistic and happy girl. Who would have thought that she had to grow up in such an environment? Her rather tragic situation in the family had not daunted her optimism.
“I… I’m also anxious, but we have no control over…”
“Of course, we are worried about Layla.” Rosalie tugged at Blair.
Layla had a good relationship with Second Young Master Sharp, and it was probably because of Elena. She might be the bridge to help them to establish a relationship with Henry. Rosalie wanted to sit next to Elena, but another girl was beside her. She probably had no chance to talk to Elena, so she could only pull Blair aside and kept still. They would wait for Layla’s update before they would make another move.
After another hour, the lights on the operating room went out. Elena held her breath and stood up abruptly. She probably had sat down for long as her legs could not support her when she got up. Fortunately, Henry was there to help her, and they went to greet the doctor that came out from the operating room.
“Is there anyone from Layla’s family?”
“Me! I am her father!” Blair immediately went to the doctor.
Layla was his daughter. He was extremely worried about his daughter in such a critical situation.
The doctor announced, “We’re not optimistic about her condition. Even though the operation was successful, her brain had suffered serious injuries. We will transfer her to the ICU for now, but I am not sure when she will regain consciousness.”
“In other words, even if she’s transferred to the ICU, you are unsure if she would wake up?”
When Rosalie thought about it, the more she was not keen on the idea.
“Err… how long does she have to stay in the ICU?”
“We’re not sure. Maybe she will wake up in a few days, or maybe after half a month, or even a month…”
“Would she not wake up at all?” Rosalie could not believe her ears. She was obviously reluctant to part with her money and reluctant to pay for the bill.
That was the second-best hospital in Bentson, and it was expensive to stay in its ICU ward.
Even though the Miller family could afford it, their business had not been good lately. If they had to pay for a month of stay at the ICU, the bill could work up to quite a large sum of money. It hurt just to think about it!

“Just transfer her to the ICU. As long as it is good for the patient, do whatever you can for her.”
Henry glanced at Ashton, and his assistant immediately said, “I will make arrangements for the payment. Doctor, please do your best to help with the patient’s recovery.”
“We can only try our best.” The doctor nodded and went into the operating room again.
Soon, several people wheeled Layla into the ICU from the operating theater. Henry held Elena’s hand, and he realized that her hands were cold.
Rosalie and Blair did not have much to say. The situation had somewhat stabilized when Layla was transferred to the ICU. It was useless for them to stay at the hospital as they could not see her anyway. Rosalie nudged Blair again.
Blair walked up to Henry and brought up the dinner plan once again. “Second Young Master Sharp…”
“F*ck off!”
Henry did not want to see the two people who chose that time to fawn over the rich and famous! Especially when their daughter was still in the ICU, and the doctor did not even know if she would wake up. What was in their thoughts?
Blair was surprised at Henry’s reaction, and he blushed in embarrassment. Rosalie felt frustrated, but she had nowhere to vent her anger. Even though they were not anyone prominent, it was still a humiliating defeat for Second Young Master Sharp to dismiss them! Elena was Layla’s classmate, was she not? It looked like she was disrespectful to them when she was with Second Young Master Sharp! That was too much! Rosalie could not stomach the insolence.
“Second Young Master Sharp, we don’t like to tattle, but Elena used to be with Eldest Young Master Williams, you…”
Ashton immediately put himself in front of Henry and Elena.
“If there’s nothing else, please leave now!”
“You… how dare you? This is not your place!”
Rosalie’s anger peaked after they dismissed them for the second time.
“Second Young Master Sharp, I’m telling the truth. She was with Eldest Young Master Williams before this, and everyone knew about it. What are you doing with this sort of woman?”
Elena had a blank expression on her face, but Lois’s eyes were red with rage! She could no longer sit still. She jumped up and pointed her finger at Rosalie. “Layla is still in a critical situation, you… you! You’re too much!”
Caleb sat at the side with his laptop, and it looked like he was busy with another task.
Suddenly, his face went pale with disbelief.
There was a problem with the surveillance system at the mall, and Ashton’s people could not get the video footage, but he had managed to get them! Even though he only managed to get bits and pieces of the video footage, it was enough for him to capture some details. The person he saw…
“Elena, Lois, she…”
Elena turned around, and she recognized the person on the screen at first glance. It was Grace! Grace was in the mall that day! It looked like she was also on the seventh floor and appeared where Layla fell!
Why would Layla go to the seventh floor for no reason at all? Grace was also there, but none of the shops were opened. Did she have anything to do with Layla’s fall?
