Caleb did not say anything else. After he saw Henry and Elena together, he sighed, got in the car, and left. Second Young Master Sharp and Elena must have had a tacit understanding. Elena looked relaxed when she was with him. Maybe there was nothing between them, but if they could achieve that level of understanding, perhaps their relationship could last a lifetime.
As for Luacs, Caleb could only sigh deeply on his behalf.
Caleb knew that Elena only pretended to be strong. They had been friends for so long, so he knew her very well.
“I feel like crying.” She was not sure when it had started. She had let her guard down completely, so she could express her feelings freely in front of Second Young Master Sharp.
She had gotten used to it even before she realized it. Henry did not say anything, but he drove the car out of the Sharp’s Industrial Park. Elena did not know where they were headed. He would not harm her anyway, so she did not worry.
Who was helping Ava, and what about the mastermind who supported her? Elena could not figure it out. Michael had completely lost his trust in her; he would no longer believe her.
They were on the road for quite some time before it stopped. Henry went down to open the door for her.
“Come on.” He reached out to Elena.
She had no idea where they were at. Everything looked dark and grim to her, but she stretched out her hand and put it in his palm. He did not wait for her to get down on her own. Without any warning, he gave her a gentle tug, and her entire body fell onto his. In a blink of an eye, she was in his arms.
“Henry…” She looked at him, but she still had no idea where they were at.
She only found out they were at a beach when he finally put her down on the sandy beach. An endless blue sea laid in front of her. The weather had started to cool as it was already the end of autumn. She did not even realize it, but she had lived through another season of the year.
“Look.” Henry pointed at the sea. “When you think that you have no way to go, just come and look at the sea.”
“Look at the sea? Why?”
“Because the sea is big, and you can go wherever you want.”
“But I can’t swim.” Elena pursed her lips in a grievance.
Why did it seem like all things were against her? She looked like she had things under control, but she realized that she was a sham. She felt as if she was at a dead-end.
“Well, why don’t I teach you how to swim?”
Henry stooped down and took off his shoes. Then, he took off his coat and threw it onto the ground.
“Come here. I will teach you.”
“Henry…” Before she could call out for him, he had strode toward the ocean. In just a blink of an eye, half of his body was in the seawater.
“Henry!” Elena was dumbfounded. He wanted to teach her to swim in such weather?
“What’s the matter? Don’t you want to learn how to swim? Come here now, and I’ll teach you.”
Henry smiled at her. Such a smile under the rays of the setting sun was inexplicably beautiful. Elena stared at him in a daze, and her nose soured. That man was so stupid! So silly! Suddenly, she crouched and hugged her knees. Her tears trickled down her cheeks. Finally, she burst into tears.
Why was her life so unfair? She had to struggle all the time. Just when she thought she could get out of it, someone would drag her into it again. The vortex would always swallow her in entirety. She could not crawl out of it, let alone stand up within it. Someone had tampered with the information in the hospital database. How could they recover the lost information? They could no longer retrieve it.
The mastermind behind Ava’s effort was too powerful, and she could not make it through that fight alone. She was tired, and she wanted to admit defeat! Could she do that, though? If she acknowledged her defeat, then she would not be able to prove her identity. If she accepted her losses, then she would not be able to expose the truth about her grandmother’s death.
If she were beaten, Ava and the people with her would be able to get away with what they had done. They would live a carefree life even after what they had done to her grandmother!
No! She would never admit defeat!
However, did she have another way out?
Elena wailed.
Her thin and slender figure swayed violently because of the strong gush of breeze from the sea. Henry got out of the ocean and crouched beside her. Elena immediately embraced her and buried her face in his shoulder as she poured her heart out. Henry stroked her hair gently to comfort her. If she could not bear the pressure, then he would let her cry about it. He would stay guarded by her side.
Elena cried until she was tired and sleepy. Then, she rolled her head to the side and fell asleep.
Perhaps she was too exhausted and had fainted. Henry took her back to the car and made sure that her breathing was even and stable. After he was convinced that she was fine, he let her sleep. She had not slept well the night before, and she had woken up in the morning with puffy eyes. He wanted her to have a good rest after such a long day.
He reclined the passenger’s seat. Elena rolled over, found a more comfortable position, and fell into a deeper sleep. He also reclined his seat and laid down beside her. Only the middle section of the car separated them. They were so close to each other, and yet, they seemed so far apart. He could have reached out to touch her, and he kept his hands to his sides.
He looked at her face. She seemed so fragile, and yet she was too stubborn to submit to her fate. He looked at her discreetly, but he did not even know how long he had been watching her.
Suddenly, the girl in front of him opened her eyes and met his gaze. Henry felt guilty the moment their eyes met. He wanted to avert his eyes, but he could not do it after he met her gaze.
The way she looked at him with her thin lips slightly opened; it made him feel warm. The whole world seemed to have disappeared, and she was the only thing left in the entire world. Suddenly, she raised her eyebrows and smiled at him!
Henry’s breathing labored. He did not know why she smiled, but it was sweet and beautiful. The smile went right through his eyes and into his heart. Why was she smiling?
“Henry…” she mumbled. The way she chanted his name had an irresistible charm that slammed right into the deepest pit of his heart. Why did she call his name? The low moan broke the tranquility of the night! The entire world only had her voice. It was so lovely to hear her say his name.
Henry… Henry… Henry…
Her thin lips were slightly opened. It seemed to have magically penetrated his heart. As he stared at her tempting lips, Henry felt like he was possessed. Then he leaned in closer toward her…
