Chapter 301 She Was Too Reliant On Her

Book:The Reborn Wife Published:2024-5-1

“You are an excellent hacker. In fact, you can hack into the hospital system and look at it if you think that I am fooling you with fake reports.”
Levi could not bear to see Elena’s sad and pale face. She had suffered too much.
“Miss Elena, I believe you didn’t mean to lie to us, but perhaps, you made a mistake.”
Levi nodded at her and then looked at Caleb. “Please look after her. I have to go back to work, Eldest Young Master…”
“Does your eldest young master also think that I lied to him deliberately?”
Elena looked at him, and her stiff face had no expression on it. Levi pursed his lips. He wanted to say something, but eventually, he only said, “I believe that you didn’t do that.”
When he left, Elena’s legs buckled, and she fell onto the floor.
Caleb helped her to sit down as he also tried to figure out the situation. He said indignantly, “It is absolutely impossible. Elena, let’s go back to the car. Give me a little time, and I’ll take another look.”
Elena was in a daze. Levi told her that he believed in her, but she had asked about Eldest Young Master Williams. Did it mean that Eldest Young Master Williams thought she had lied to him? She must have been a liar and an evil woman in his eyes! Not only did she hurt the old madam, she even pretended to be related to her. How did things turn out to be that way? What had gone wrong?
Caleb settled the bill and helped her up. “Elena, come on, let’s get back to the car. I’ll help you to figure it out!”
Elena had a blank expression on her face. Caleb took all the reports on the table before he helped her out of the cafe. After they got in the car, Caleb turned on his laptop and hacked into the hospital database system at top speed. It was relatively easy to verify the information if they had the name of the patient.
Shortly after that, he managed to retrieve the old madam’s DNA information. With the information that Levi gave them, he compared the details one by one. His heart grew cold as he looked at the comparison. They were the same! Levi had the correct information! That was the old madam’s DNA information, indeed!
He took the report and compared it with the old madam’s information on the hospital’s system. True enough, they were not the same. They were totally different! Why?
“Elena, we didn’t make this up. This is… This… This…” He did not even have any explanation for that! No matter how hard he tried, he did not have a reasonable explanation for it. Caleb grasped Elena’s shoulders with determination.
“Elena, we didn’t lie, did we? Don’t you know? We didn’t lie!”
“I didn’t lie…” Elena finally snapped back to her senses, but when she looked at him, her eyes were dark and gloomy.
“No! Yes! We didn’t!”
He knew that Elena would not be able to accept such a big blow, and he totally understood how she felt. He had been with her since they started on that journey. He knew about the entire situation!
“We had the correct blood sample from the old madam and you. Both of you are related!”
“Yes, I’m definitely related to Grandmother.”
Elena looked at the reports scattered on the seat. Everything on it was true, so what had happened?
“Could the information in the hospital database be falsified?”
“That might be it! The old madam’s DNA information in the hospital must have been altered!”
Caleb held her shoulders firmly. “Elena, you are not someone who is easily defeated. You have to be strong!”
“I’m fine.” Elena took a long breath, shook her head, and pushed his hands away.
She leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes and tried to adjust her breathing.
“It’s just a little sudden; I need time to come to terms with it.”
Caleb understood what she meant. If he were in her shoes, he would have probably crumbled!
They had the winning ticket in their hand. It was as if they had been too close to the sun, and they could reach out to touch the much-wanted hope. Suddenly, something grabbed them from behind and pulled them into hell. Who could take it? Who would not be in despair? She needed some time to adjust her mood. She had been tired of late too.
“Elena…”
“I’m okay. Really. Let’s go back to Sharp Corporation and get some work done. I will figure out a way to deal with this later.”
Elena did not even lift her eyelids. She was too tired and in dire need of a rest.
Her abdomen throbbed faintly; she was not sure if it was because she was due to have her period soon. Why have things been so rough lately?
Caleb wanted to comfort her, but he did not know how to do that. He even felt a little lost. What could they do even if they were sure that someone had tampered with the DNA in the hospital database? Who would believe them?
The information in the database was the key information to prove one’s identity. How would one determine that it had been changed? It was a dead-end! Also, who could have changed the information anyway? Was it Ava, or the mastermind behind her? Had they been aware that Elena was investigating the matter?
When they reached Sharp Corporation, Caleb stopped the car and turned to look at Elena.
“Are you in… any danger now?”
If those people suspected that she was on their case, she might be in a dangerous situation. Elena could not lie to him. He would not even believe it if she told him she was fine. They exchanged a look in silence before Elena’s mobile phone rang. She saw that it was Henry, so she answered his call.
“How are you doing? Where are you? I can swing by to pick you up now! I had to deal with something urgent today, so I could not make it in time.”
“I’m already at the entrance to our office.” Elena looked at the industrial park with no emotions in her eyes.
“Second Young Master Sharp…” Caleb thought about it and called out to the phone. “Second Young Master Sharp, I will send Elena to the main building. Can you come and get her?”
“There’s no need…”
“Okay, I’m out here now. Send her to the foyer outside the main building.”
Without another word, Henry had hung up.
Elena looked at Caleb in objection. “He’s actually very busy…”
“Yeah, but he can protect you.”
Caleb had always thought Luacs was the perfect fit for Elena. However, his friend had been quite busy lately. He always had his own matters to attend to after his classes. He was preoccupied, and thus he would not be able to protect Elena at that moment. However, Second Young Master Sharp was different. He had money and power; he had everything, even connections. Caleb would only be at ease if Henry accompanied Elena.
“Elena, you should go with Second Young Master Sharp for now. Go and think about what to do next. No matter what your decision is, you must let me know.”
Caleb stopped the car at the foyer in front of Sharp Corporation’s main building. Elena got out of the car and saw Henry approach her in a hurry. The moment she saw him, a sense of familiarity flashed through her mind, and she felt like she wanted to hold on to that. Had she been too dependent on him?
