Chapter 8 Defying Trivial Conventions

A sumptuous breakfast was placed on printed marble dining table. Bella suddenly felt sorrowful inexplicably. In the Burne-Browns, she never had the opportunity to eat breakfast with her family, and had no qualification.
When she was nine years old, she entered into this family. They all ignored her and never called her when eating breakfast. She would not shamelessly sit over. At her young age, because of her pride, she thought being hungry did not matter. Until many years later, she had a very serious stomach disease. Only then did she begin to realize, being angry with others was doing harm to yourself. No one would feel sorry for her in this world.
Only the wearer knew where the shoes pained.
Blanche saw her not eating, and asked with concern, “Why don’t you eat? Is none of this to your liking?”
“Oh, no, no.”
She quickly scooped up a mouthful of tremella porridge and ate.
“By the way, you’re going back to home today, right? I’ll have the housekeeper prepare your gift later.”
“I don’t have time.”
Kevin coldly refused.
Patrick frowned, “You don’t have time. Are you going to let her go back alone?”
“What does it matter if she goes back alone? It’s the seventh marriage already. Don’t make it look like a first marriage.”
“What are you talking about? You’re getting married for the seventh time, but it’s Maya’s first marriage, so how can you…”
“It’s okay. Our family doesn’t stick to such trivialities, so there’s no need to go back. Besides, I have to work.”
Bella interrupted her mother-in-law, but felt wrong at once. Because she wasn’t sure if a rich family like the Jones-Sharps could accept a daughter-in-law working outside.
It seemed like she should talk to Kevin first.
“What kind of work do you do?” Blanche was curious.
“Teacher. I’m a high school teacher.”
“Yah, so you’re a teacher. No wonder you’re so knowledgeable.”
Bella smiled modestly, “Mother is overpraised.”
“Which school are you in? I can have Kevin give you a ride after breakfast.”
“It’s out of my way.”
Blanche glared at him, “She hasn’t said it yet. How do you know it’s out of your way?”
“It isn’t by my way to drive along that direction wherever she goes.”
Bella smoothed it over, “Don’t bother him. I’ll take the bus easily.”
“The bus?”
Blanche was startled in surprise, “How can our daughter-in-law take the bus? He doesn’t give you a ride. I’ll arrange for someone to pick you up every day.”
“No no no.” Bella shook her head in panic, “I don’t like to be too high-profile. It’s better to keep a low profile.”
“But…”
Patrick interjected, “Forget it. Since Bella made up her mind, let’s not embarrass her.”
After breakfast, Bella and Kevin left the house one after another. Kevin walked in front, suddenly turned around and said to the woman behind him, “From now on, you wait 10 minutes after I leave, and then you can come out. I’m not used to having people follow me.”
A crow flew over the top of Bella’s head and she asked curiously, “Are you unhappy because I’m married and still going out to work?”
Kevin sneered. What a narcissistic woman! He looked her straight in the eyes and told her word for word, “Remember, as long as you don’t cuckold me outside, anything you do is none of my business!”
