Leonardo heard Summer’s reply and smiled mysteriously. Taking out his mobile phone, he played a recorded voice clip in front of her.
“Will you marry me?”
“Mmm…”
The male voice was incredibly gentle, and Summer recognized it as Leonardo’s voice.
It was followed by a beguiling reply…
A fleeting sense of distress flashed across her face. She glanced at Leonardo, who was looking at her and then at his mobile phone. She curled her fingers up tightly, and as Leonardo looked away, she reached out to snatch his phone.
How could Leonardo not know what she was up to with his excellent observation skills?
He easily dodged her hand and tucked his phone back into his pocket.
“Hear that?” he asked lightheartedly.
“That doesn’t count!” Summer said after she pursed her lips.
“Did you say it?” Leonardo just asked, not wanting to argue with her.
She became silent, aware that it was her voice.
However, she did not hear his question properly or consciously answer it under such circumstances last night.
“You’re a jerk!” She bit her lip and scolded.
“Yell as much as you want. You’re the one who agreed to it.” Instead of getting angry, Leonardo leaned forward to kiss her.
She turned her face away and slapped him on the forehead, pushing his head back.
“Get out of my face!”
“That’s okay. We’ll be seeing each other every day from now on.” He chuckled.
It really got on her nerves. Did this man know how to spell “shame” at all?
Right then, the doorbell rang.
“I’ll open it.” Leonardo got to his feet to answer the door.
When Summer went out, she saw Leonardo place breakfast on the dining table. Its packaging was of the Golden Cauldron.
Leonardo had probably ordered breakfast to be delivered from the restaurant.
“Come and have some breakfast.” Leonardo looked back at her when he heard footsteps.
She went over and quietly sat down, remaining silent throughout breakfast.
It was Leonardo who did the talking, occasionally saying something to her. She pretended to ignore him, but in reality, she heard everything he said.
“I’ve asked Tim to arrange everything. It will be done in a few days. Then you can choose your wedding dress.
“You can ask Jessica to accompany you if you want…”
Summer looked distant the entire time, yet Leonardo continued to explain everything to her.
Once Leonardo left after breakfast, she finally found the time to call Jessica.
“Are you okay, Summer? Why didn’t you pick up my call?” The sound in the background told her that Jessica was in an open space.
“Where are you?” Summer asked.
“I’m having a shoot outside. I saw the online news early in the morning and called you, but you didn’t pick up.”
Right then, a voice that Summer did not recognize called out on the other end of the line. “It’s about to start now, Ms. Hicks.”
The voice seemed to come from a distance.
“I’m fine. You should go now.” Summer did not want to hold her up.
“That’s not what I wanted to say, Summer.” Jessica sounded serious. There was a moment of silence.
Summer guessed that Jessica had to be checking her surroundings. She probably wanted to make sure that no one was nearby to eavesdrop on what she was going to say next.
“I checked, and the news came out at the early hours of dawn. Carl told me that he and Tim would be on it. But until now, they haven’t gotten it taken down. That can only mean, someone major’s behind the media and they haven’t worked out who it is. No one has ever dared to go against Emerson Group before!”
Jessica’s voice was filled with curiosity.
Summer had only glanced through the news and was not aware of all that.
“I’m fine. You should go now,” she assured Jessica. “Those people are just too afraid to defy Emerson Group, but that doesn’t mean they don’t want to. Even if someone’s behind this, do you think Leonardo won’t be able to handle it?”
“You have a point.” In Jessica’s eyes, there was nothing that Leonardo could not handle.
The line went dead, and Summer browsed the news again.
There were a couple of posts talking about her, Leonardo, Amber, and Rosie. The posts had even made it to the top of the trending search on Weibo.
However, the relationship between Summer, Leonardo, and Amber was at the center of the discussion.
There were three posts talking about their relationship and one about Rosie.
She was not concerned about the first three posts. She clicked the topic related to Leonardo’s daughter.
“Does Leonardo really have a daughter?”
“I’m jealous of his daughter. I want a rich dad like him. The way Leonardo carries her makes me feel that he pampers her like a princess! She’s got all the love and wealth!”
“Judging from the way Leonardo carried her, he was consciously blocking his daughter’s face. Was he afraid of people seeing her? There should have been tight security at the party last night to prevent reporters from going in. Despite that, he was still so careful to hide his daughter’s face. Why was he so afraid? Is it because his daughter looks ugly?…”
Summer did not bother to finish reading the post. She went to check out the poster’s Weibo account.
The poster’s account discussed celebrities and tried to skew public discourse. It was bordering on provocation.
The post that alleged Rosie was ugly had close to ten thousand comments.
Summer clicked into the comment section, and she was surprised to find that the first comment was critical of the poster.
“The poster is retarded.”
“How could an adult wantonly comment online about a child’s appearance? Aren’t you ashamed of your conduct?”
“Even if Leonardo’s daughter is the ugliest in the world, having a dad like Leonardo is the biggest accomplishment in life.”
“The poster has terminal delusion disorder. Period.”
“I think the poster has a point. If the child’s healthy, why did he bring her to the party but refuse to show her face? The only explanation is that his daughter is ugly.”
Summer sneered when she read that comment. She logged out of Weibo and thought of what Jessica had said. Someone must be covertly working against Leonardo; that was why he had not been able to take down the news and discussions.
However, who had the ability to counter Leonardo?
