Chapter 461 Stay Away from People with Questionable Origins

Book:CEO's Substitute Wife Published:2024-5-1

It sounded to Summer like Leonardo was singling out Stanley.
She got a little irritated. “Yeah, you’re the best. Happy?”
Nevertheless, he was right about Vicky’s thought process. Indeed, she wanted to kill them to avenge Adams’s death.
Leonardo quirked a brow. “You think that I’m wrong?”
“You have something against Stanley that you have to take shots at him?” Leonardo’s likes and dislikes were all written on his face in front of her.
Leonardo broke into a mirthless smile. “Are you defending him? You’ve become his fiancée and grown real feelings for him?”
His voice sounded threatening. Summer did not want to agitate him, but at the same time, she had to say something.
“He saved my life before.” Her voice was soft.
Leonardo stared at her until she felt uncomfortable.
It was only after a long while that he spoke. “How well do you know Stanley?”
“Why?” Summer was puzzled by his question.
She honestly did not know much about Stanley.
“How did you two meet each other? Besides the fact that he’s a psychologist who came back from abroad, what else do you know?” Leonardo looked at her with a serious expression. “From what I know, you’ve been living in Hoover City the whole time except when you were pregnant.”
Leonardo’s eyes lit up when he spoke of her pregnancy. He had read all of the information that Tim passed to him. Hence, he knew nearly every single detail of whatever transpired between Summer and him.
Summer finally understood; Leonardo did not come for dinner but to interrogate her today.
Since he was asking, she had no plans of hiding it. “Based on the tone of his voice, he must have known me a long time ago. But I only got to know him three years ago, before we went to the island.”
“That’s it?” Leonardo frowned.
“What do you want?” Summer shook her head.
He was silent for a moment. “Stay away from people with questionable origins.”
Questionable origins? So, he was talking about Stanley.
“His origin may be questionable, but at least he saved my life. He and I can’t possibly stop contacting one another,” Summer said matter-of-factly.
Leonardo gave her a sardonic smile and said nothing again as he continued his dinner.
After he finished his meal, he left. Before his departure, Summer packed some desserts for Rosie. She had made them specially for Rosie.
When she handed the desserts to Leonardo, he knitted his brows together. “It’s not like I don’t have maids.”
“Maids are maids; I am Rosie’s mother. It’s different.” She handed the box of desserts to him.
He did not look too happy but still took the box from her.
As Summer walked him to the door, he glanced back at her as if he had something to say. Yet, he just hissed and left in the end.
Summer looked on in confusion as he walked away, wondering if she had said or done something wrong.
After she closed the door, she pondered what Leonardo said and fell into deep thought while she went back in.
Leonardo had reminded her of something: when she last met Stanley, she had wanted to ask him how he got to know her. However, Stanley was not willing to talk at that time, so she did not manage to question him.
Be that as it may, the question had to be asked sooner or later.
She took a mental note of it and would find an opportunity to talk to Stanley about it as soon as possible.

The next day, Eliza asked Summer out again.
This time, they attended an event for her acquaintance’s new movie release. Summer only learned that the person was Bowen Diaz when she arrived at the scene.
Probably because of his role in the movie, Bowen had grown a beard, appearing older than he actually was. Despite that, he looked more manly with the beard.
Summer’s impression of him now was the same as it was three years ago.
Thinking back carefully, it did not seem like Bowen had differed much after three years.
Most of the attendees at the press conference were reporters. Eliza, as well as Summer, disguised themselves as one of them, and they sat among them so that they would not arouse attention.
Summer pulled a mask over half of her face and asked, “Why do we have to sneak around? You haven’t been successful in wooing Bowen for the past three years?”
Summer could not see Eliza’s face through the mask, but she could detect a fleeting rattle in her eyes.
Eliza immediately denied it. “What are you talking about? Who’s chasing after him? Not me. Stop making things up.”
“Oh, you’re not chasing after him. You’re just sneaking into the event for his new movie release to see him.” Summer ignored Eliza’s glare and frowned. “But why did you drag me along when you’re the one who wanted to come?”
“You’ve got free time, after all. Can’t you accompany me?” Eliza looked back and shot her a glare again.
Summer sighed upon hearing her blunt reply. “Don’t you want to shoot The Lost City 2? Don’t you want me to work on the script as quickly as possible?”
“It won’t take you long.” Eliza smiled at her. “Actually, I’ve been curious; how did you make Leonardo fall head over heels for you back then?”
“Back then?” Summer frowned.
“Doesn’t Leonardo have a fiancée now? I don’t know what happened to both of you three years ago and why you two were separated, but three years ago, he was madly in love with you.”
Eliza observed Summer’s expression while she spoke as if she could end the conversation whenever she spotted anything off with Summer’s expression.
She only finished her sentence when she realized that there was nothing unusual about Summer’s reaction.
Summer was deep in thought.
Eliza was right; Leonardo had a “change of heart”.
Had Eliza not mentioned it, she would have almost forgotten that Leonardo still had a fiancée, Amber.
She had met Amber once, three years ago.
Amber was Kate’s friend. Just like Kate, she had a sense of superiority and a domineering personality.
“Didn’t you say that Leonardo had a change of heart? He’s not faithful anymore.” Summer’s voice was emotionless.
Eliza asked no more.
Summer remembered that, three years ago, Eliza had infiltrated Leonardo’s house by disguising herself as a maid. While she quarreled with Alisa Emerson, they had mentioned Bowen.
She turned to look at Eliza. “What about you? Three years ago, you didn’t love Leonardo at all. Bowen was the one you loved. Why did you sneak into Leonardo’s house in the guise of a maid?”
“When did I say that I liked Bowen?” As though something made her hackles rise, Eliza raised her voice, which attracted the attention of the reporters.
Summer immediately felt nervous.
She immediately started to leave with Eliza, but the reporters with keen eyes had recognized them.
“It’s Summer!”
