Chapter 456 Am I Dreaming?

Book:CEO's Substitute Wife Published:2024-5-1

Leonardo’s face darkened. He carried Summer up and threw her into the backseat.
He was practically manhandling her, and she felt pain as she hit the seat.
She pulled herself up and leaned back in her seat. However, her body fell from left to right because of the lack of armrests.
Whenever she fell sideways, she would prop herself up with her hand and lean back in her seat again.
She repeated this countless times as if she did not find it tiring at all, and it made her look a little dumb.
Leonardo looked on and took everything in.
Tim was standing by the car, glancing at Summer and Leonardo, who might at any time decide to throw Summer out of the car. He hemmed and tried to remind Leonardo, “We should go now, Young Master.”
Leonardo pursed his lips in disgust, but still, he got in.
Meanwhile, Summer was still repeating the same actions.
Leonardo got in and sat close to the window, trying to keep a distance from Summer.
Tim sat behind the wheel and was thoughtful enough to drive as smoothly and carefully as he possibly could. Despite that, Summer still fell to the side and even hit her head on the window once.
Her head banged against the window with a loud sound, and it had to be painful judging by the sound.
Feeling worried, he looked in the rearview mirror and saw Leonardo sitting still in the backseat, indifferent to Summer, who was swinging left and right like grass in the wind.
Tim could not help but sigh.
When Summer was drunk, she was prone to cause trouble. Aside from that, she was fine and had not thrown up.
Unfortunately, the motion of the car did not help. She finally retched with her lips pursed.
“What are you going to do, Summer?” Leonardo’s expression changed.
“I feel like…” She heard his voice and leaned toward him, falling into his arms as she lost her balance. “… vomiting.”
“Stop the car!” Leonardo caught her body and froze for a second.
Tim quickly brought the car to a halt.
Summer collapsed in his arms. Smelling his familiar scent, she breathed a sigh of satisfaction as she shifted her position on his chest to make herself comfortable. She then closed her eyes.
Leonardo saw this and gave her a little ill-humored push. “Get out if you want to throw up, Summer!”
“I don’t… feel like throwing up now…” She spoke intermittently, shifting her position again before her breathing stabilized.
“Then sit properly if you’re not going to throw up.”
Summer did not respond, and he gave her another push. It was then that he realized Summer had fallen asleep.
When Summer was asleep, she looked different from her usual self. She had a pair of alluring eyes and was a beautiful woman when she was awake.
On the contrary, she looked a lot more childlike and younger than her age when she was asleep.
“Young Master,” Tim called him when Leonardo gave no further instruction after a long while.
Leonardo looked up. “It’s all right now.”
So, Tim kept driving.
Leonardo looked at Summer for a long time and finally could not help himself. He reached out to tuck a strand of hair on her forehead to the back of her ear.
He realized how natural it was for him to do that. Did he always do such an intimate thing to Summer?
Tim had told him about his relationship with Summer, but that only made him like Summer a little more. It was not enough to reignite the love he used to have for her.
He knew how hard Summer had been trying.

The car finally stopped in front of Leonardo’s mansion.
As soon as the car came to a halt, a bodyguard came out to open the car door for Leonardo.
He carried Summer in his arms and walked into the mansion.
“Young Master.” Some maids came up to greet him.
Leonardo did not stop, but he gave the maids some instructions. “Ask someone to help clean her up.”
Rosie was asleep at this time, so he was light in his steps.
He carried Summer into the bedroom that she used to stay in. It remained as it was back then.
A maid came in and Leonardo stood up. “Clean her up and change her.”
“Yes, Young Master.” The maid nodded.
Leonardo turned and went back to his bedroom.
After a shower, he lay in bed, tossing and turning.
Sitting up on his bed, he massaged his brows. He turned on the bedside lamp, sitting quietly for a few seconds before whisking the duvet away and getting out of bed.
He opened the door and went out, finally stopping outside Summer’s bedroom.
He stood there for a few moments. His brows were slightly knitted as he held the doorknob and opened the door.
The maid had probably expected Summer to wake up in the middle of the night. She was thoughtful enough to leave one of the bedside lamps on.
The light was not bright enough to illuminate the entire room.
Leonardo walked to the bedside. Summer was sleeping with her head tilting sideways, her brows knitted together.
Before he knew it, he found himself running his fingers across her forehead. He was startled by his own actions, and his hand froze in midair. Soon after, he gently ran his fingers over her brows, but that did not work to soothe her. Summer’s eyelashes flickered a few times, and she opened her eyes.
He did not know how to respond when Summer suddenly woke up.
Their eyes met in the quiet room.
“Am I dreaming?” Summer mumbled.
After a busy night of going to the police station, experiencing misadventures on her way back, and then having a shower, the alcoholic influence had subsided. Summer was now awake.
However, waking up in the middle of the night with Leonardo standing by the bed was apparently not normal.
Leonardo glanced at her and turned to walk out of the room. He looked a little irritated.
Summer was transfixed for a second before she quickly got out of bed and caught up to him at warp speed. Leonardo gazed emotionlessly at the woman who stood in his way and blocked the doorway with her hands.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
Summer realized that her behavior was a little odd and pulled back her hands. “Did you bring me back from the police station?”
His face darkened even more at the mention of the incident. “If not? You were utterly hammered. Do you think you could have crawled out of the police station all by yourself?”
His voice reeked of anger, but he did not realize it.
He was not sure if it was due to the troubles Summer had created and the need for him to clean up her mess, or the fact that she had gotten drunk, but his heart was not at peace tonight.
