As the police officer kept staring at her, Summer could only stare back at him. “Why are you staring at me, Officer?”
“Did you just call Leonardo?” the police officer asked.
“Uh-huh,” Summer admitted. She was still not entirely sober.
“Leonardo, the CEO of Emerson Group? You’re Summer?” the police officer asked further.
“Yeah. Yeah,” she answered twice because the police officers had asked two questions.
His eyes lit up instantly when he heard her reply.
He was excited, leaning forward so that he could close the distance between them.
“Then you must be the screenwriter of The Lost City, right?” The police officer spelled out his words, looking serious.
Summer looked at him for a few seconds. Since the uniform he wore looked intimidating to her, she again admitted, “Yeah.”
The police officer could not hold back his excitement. He forced his fist on the table. “Ms. Jarrett, I have a question: in the last episode of The Lost City, why did Anthony have to go to jail? Was he really guilty or did someone set him up?”
“The last episode of The Lost City?”
“That’s right!” The police officer looked at her expectantly.
“All of you watched The Lost City too! Thank you for your support!” Summer smiled at the police officer.
The Lost City was a thriller with some criminal investigation elements in its story. As Summer had limited knowledge in the field, she had done a lot of research. But still, she was worried that she might leave some loopholes and be criticized for it. So, she tried to limit the criminal investigation content. Even if there were any, she just glossed over them.
“Please, first tell me, why did Anthony Wood have to go to jail?” The police officer was anxious.
Summer stared at him for a few seconds. “There’s something foreshadowing his imprisonment. If you’ve been carefully watching the web series, you would have found it.”
Right then, a female officer came over, seemingly to hand the male officer a file.
The female officer saw Summer. “What’s the case?”
“Just something petty.” The male officer turned his attention back to Summer. “Ms. Jarrett, I know that. But, there are too many leads and possibilities that foreshadow it. No matter which one I use to explain the case, it’s still too controversial. I want to know the official answer.”
Just as the female officer was about to leave, she heard their conversation and inched closer. “Are you two talking about The Lost City web series?”
“Ms. Jarrett, the screenwriter of The Lost City,” the male officer introduced enthusiastically.
The female officer was wide-eyed as she sat down on the other side. “I, too, have a question…” Following that, others were coming over and gathered around Summer, asking questions.
While she prepared for the sequel of The Lost City, Summer had watched the first season several times and knew every plot point, as well as detail, of the story. So, answering their questions was just a walk in the park for her. However, she had been keeping mum on why Anthony, the protagonist, needed to go to jail. It was the selling point for Season 2 of The Lost City, and she was not going to give it away.
When Leonardo arrived, he saw a group of police officers gathering around Summer and posing questions like they were her friends. Meanwhile, Summer was patiently answering each of their questions.
He nearly thought that Summer had played a prank on him, but deep inside, he knew that was not the case. Following Leonardo was Tim.
The male officer who had taken Summer’s statement saw Leonardo and hemmed. “Stop gathering around here. Don’t slack off!”
Only then did the police officers dispersed.
Summer looked back, and her eyes brightened up when she saw Leonardo.
She stood up and wanted to approach him. Just then, a sense of dizziness hit her, and she stumbled forward.
Leonardo quickly lunged forth and held her up just in time. As soon as he went near her, a strong smell of booze hit his nostrils.
Summer smelled his familiar scent, and she looked up with a smile, reaching to grab his lapel. “You’ve really come for me.”
Her mouth also stank of beer when she spoke.
Leonardo furrowed his brows and threw her back in the chair because the smell disgusted him. “Do it now,” he told Tim.
“Aye.”
Tim went off to handle the procedures for bailing Summer out.
After everything was done, Leonardo spoke to Summer in an icy tone. “Still not willing to leave? Or are you waiting for me to hold you?”
Still in a semi-sober state, Summer followed her heart. “Mhm.”
Leonardo sneered at her and turned to leave.
“Hey!” Summer stood up and staggered to catch up to Leonardo.
However, her strength was weaker than her will. Her head was spinning big time, and she could not even walk in a straight line.
Seeing the situation, Tim quickly went up to help her.
Little did he expect that Leonardo seemed to know what was going on, as though he had eyes at the back of his head. He stopped in his tracks but did not look back. “Don’t help her.”
Tim had no choice but to pull away. “Mrs. Emerson, be careful and take it easy,” he said softly.
“No.” Summer walked even faster. “I need to catch up to Leonardo wherever he goes.”
Leonardo, who had gone ahead again, suddenly slowed down.
Summer staggered forward and caught up to him. When she held his hand tightly, he pulled his hand back a little but did not shake hers away. God knows where the drunk woman got her strength.
He looked back, and his eyes met hers, which looked rather silly.
“Gotcha!” she said slowly and stupidly. Not only that, she even looked as stupid as she sounded.
Leonardo had no choice but to proceed with her clinging on to him.
Summer felt the world spin around her. She clung on to his arm with both hands, and half of her body was leaning against him as they walked.
Leonardo could feel his patience running out, but the next second, he would tell himself to hang on for another second.
With Summer still holding on to his arm, they finally came to the parking lot.
Tim went ahead of them to open the car door for Leonardo.
Leonardo wanted to get Summer’s hands off of him, but he could not.
He closed his eyes, fighting back his anger. “Are you going to hold on to my arm until the new year?”
Summer’s eyes had narrowed, and she was almost asleep. “Why should I spend New Years with your arm? I only want to spend New Years with you.”
