Chapter 392 Inside Story

Book:CEO's Substitute Wife Published:2024-5-1

Leonardo’s tone was so serious that it scared Kate.
She called out hurriedly, “Leonardo!”
“This matter is settled then. You should not interfere in things that you shouldn’t interfere.” Leonardo gave her a deep look.
Kate’s expression suddenly changed, as she staggered two steps back and had to hold on to the edge of the desk to keep her upright.
She had not been close to Leonardo since she was young.
However, they were twins after all, and there were times where they had some inexplicable tacit understanding.
Like now, the deeper meaning of Leonardo’s words was that he had already known that she had messed with the DNA report.
As Leonardo said that, he left with Tim.
One of the bodyguards at the back saw Kate was non-responsive for a good while and came forward to ask, “Miss, are you all right?”
Kate ignored them and picked up the DNA report instead.
She stared daggers at the three words, “Summer.”
In that major incident three years ago where half an island was blown up, and Summer actually survived?
Kate clenched her fists and bit her teeth in hatred. This woman screwed her plans up time and time again!
After a moment, she calmed herself down and said, “Go investigate this Summer person.”

Summer got the driver to send her back to the hospital.
She had been pondering about the DNA report along the way, but she could not think of anything.
Jessica would not deceive her, Leonardo was not particularly angry then as well, but instead had sent her away in a hurry.
Was there an inside story to this?
This was the first time since she was discharged that Summer was so irritated by her memory loss.
If only she had not lost her memory.
If she had not lost her memory, none of these problems would have occurred.
She would know if she had a daughter, if she had wronged anyone before, or who she had loved before, and she would not be pushed into such a passive state.
Summer sat in the garden for a moment, before getting up and headed to Stanley’s ward.
She pushed the door open and saw a few uniformed policemen inside.
Stanley leaned against the bed frame facing the door.
When he saw Summer come in, he said aloud, “You’re back.”
“Yeah.”
Summer responded and walked over as Stanley explained. “The police came over to get an understanding of the accident.”
Summer nodded and poured Stanley a glass of water.
The police routinely took his statement and the questions were common as well.
“Mr. Bates, have you offended anyone before?”
“No.”
“Was there a possibility you had offended anyone without you noticing.”
“Rather remote…”
The police had gone around a circle with their questioning without any useful information.
One of the police officers turned to Summer. “Was Ms. Jarrett in the car during the incident?”
Summer was very cooperative as she said seriously. “Yes. I was riding shotgun then.”
The police then asked the same question again. “Have you wronged anyone before, Ms. Jarrett?”
Summer carefully recalled the people she had recently been acquainted with.
Aside from Stanley, it was Jessica and the rest.
If it was someone she had wronged…
Summer thought of Vicky.
That gaze of hatred Vicky had for her was particularly picturesque now that Summer recalled it.
As she was just about to speak, she heard Stanley say, “My friend has just recovered and forgotten many things of her past, and she doesn’t really know many people.”
The officer did not ask anymore upon hearing that.
He obviously knew Stanley, and before he left, he did not forget to tell him. “You can contact us if there’s anything. Take care of yourself.”
After the police officers left, Summer asked, “You actually know the police?”
“I was hired by their criminal investigation team before, and I knew a couple from there.”
Stanley had just summarized it in a sentence, and Summer did not ask further.
Summer was rather surprised. “With your abilities, wouldn’t it be better to develop your career abroad?”
Stanley casually said, “Yeah, perhaps I’m just not that ambitious with my career.”

Later at night, Summer went to buy dinner for Stanley.
As soon as she left the hospital, she saw a woman coming down from the car and hurriedly walked toward her.
As it was rather dark, she could not immediately recognize who it was.
When the woman approached her, only did Summer realize it was Vicky.
Vicky wore a black slim dress, and her makeup was as thick as ever.
She seemed to hiss a sentence from her gritted teeth. “Summer, you are actually unscathed!”
Vicky did not bother hiding her hatred for Summer.
Summer would be an absolute fool if she did not manage to have an idea of what was going on.
Summer felt her hands clenching subconsciously as she asked with a slightly cold tone. “You cut Stanley’s brake cable?”
“Yeah, I did it,” Vicky admitted nonchalantly.
The next moment, she held Summer’s chin, as if she wished to rip Summer apart. “How did you end up standing here fine? Hmmm? I don’t believe you can be so lucky every single time!”
Summer’s chin hurt.
She frowned and swatted Vicky’s hand away. “What did you take a human life for?”
Vicky sneered, “Like I care. Just you wait, Summer! I will make your life hell!”
As she said that she turned and walked away.
Summer looked at her back as she took out her phone and called the police.

When she returned to the ward again, Summer looked at Stanley with a trace of guilt in her eyes.
Stanley was just a doctor, and he was usually kind and would not offend anyone.
And this accident was due to her being targeted by Vicky, and Stanley was caught in the crossfire.
When Summer handed the meat from the lunch box to Stanley for the third time, the latter could not help but ask aloud, “Why did you turn all strange after you came back?”
Summer sighed. “I’m sorry, this incident was actually directed at me.”
Stanley’s expression turned serious, and his eyes narrowed slightly as he heard that. “Seems like you have offended a particularly cruel person.”
“Yeah.”
Vicky must have been following her to find out that she was together with Stanley, and for the former to locate Stanley’s car.
However, anyone with a conscience would have at least hesitated in taking Stanley’s life as well.
Vicky was completely like a rabid dog now, and as long as she could kill Summer, she would not mind killing any other innocents along the way.
Seems like she needed to look for Jessica to talk about her past.
She had to know what she had done for Vicky to hate her so much.

After Summer’s call to the police, they had sent someone to look for Vicky to question her.
Vicky had done everything cautiously, and it took a few days for them to pin the case on Vicky.
Surprisingly, someone had bailed her out, and she was out after a few days.
