Chapter 298 Give Face

Book:CEO's Substitute Wife Published:2024-5-1

After the crew was done with their work, Eliza looked for Summer and mysteriously said, “Accompany me to a dinner party tonight.”
“What dinner party?” Summer asked as she looked for her cell phone in her bag.
Eliza explained, “A proper dinner party. One that you can just casually eat at.”
Summer readily agreed. “Okay.”
Due to Eliza’s influential family background, people within her circle would often give her face. Plus, her character was not the flighty type. If she said it was a proper dinner function, then it would be a proper one.

The moment Summer got into the car, she remembered to ask Eliza, “Where’s the dinner party?”
“The Golden Cauldron,” Eliza answered as she drove.
The Golden Cauldron?
When she heard those familiar words, Summer froze for a moment.
She used to go to the Golden Cauldron for dinner very often.
She had yet to pay the place a visit after her return, and when she heard the words, “The Golden Cauldron” from someone else’s mouth, she was transfixed for a second before she recovered.
While waiting at the traffic light, Eliza looked at Summer for a moment and asked, “You sure you don’t want to change and do your hair?”
“No need. I feel fine just like this.” Summer looked out of the window rather absent-mindedly.
As her work was always outdoors, Summer loved to wear long blouses and long trousers. She had not worn a dress for a long while now.
Besides, it was not convenient to do anything in a dress.
Eliza pondered for a short while and asked, “Right, so after you got dumped by Leonardo, you became so discouraged that you planned on not finding another man?”
Summer did not expect her to suddenly pivot the topic that way, and she just casually responded with, “Let’s see.”
The two chatted along the way and soon arrived at the Golden Cauldron.
Summer got down from the car and could not help but look around.
Leonardo would often come to the Golden Cauldron for a meal, and she was not sure if she would run into him there.
“What are you looking at? Let’s go in.” Eliza’s voice pulled her fleeting thoughts back.
“Yeah,” Summer responded hurriedly and followed Eliza into the restaurant.
The moment the two of them entered the room, there was already a large circle of people in it.
There were men and women as well as a few girls who had been appearing often on the big screen recently.
Eliza leaned over to Summer’s ear and whispered, “The one in the white shirt has had a face-lift before, and the education cert of that pink-dressed one is fake…”
Summer did not expect Eliza to have such a gossip girl moment.
Summer played along and joked with Eliza. “If I can’t write a script in the future, I’ll just open up a Weibo account for celebrity exposé and become a web celebrity to earn a living.”
“A celebrity exposé without any backing? If people don’t do you in, consider it my loss.” Eliza gave her a disapproving look.
Summer smiled. “You’re my backing, no?”
“What am I? Leonardo would have been your strongest backing. If you hadn’t divorced him, you could just run rampant in the entertainment circle, and write and shoot your scripts as you like…”
Halfway through, Eliza realized that she should not have said that.
She turned and looked at Summer in the eye, seeing that the latter was not displaying any anger. She quickly segued into a different topic. “I heard that a few other big shots are coming. No idea who, though.”
Soon, Summer found out who the big shot Eliza talked about was.
“Ms. Jarrett.”
When she laid eyes on the gently-smiling Adams before her, Summer felt that she should have consulted the Chinese Almanac before leaving home today.
Summer smiled back. “Mr. Wilson.”
In front of outsiders, she still had to give face.
Right then, another person walked in from the outside.
“Adams, why are you walking so fast? You don’t even know how to wait for me.” Vicky walked over and clung onto Adams’s arm.
Adams was standing in front of Summer while talking to her, so Vicky naturally saw Summer as well.
As soon as Vicky saw Summer, her expression darkened. “Summer?”
Before Summer could respond, Adams called out casually, “Vicky.”
Vicky was gloomy as she faced Summer, but once she heard Adams call for her, the coldness on her face immediately disappeared. She obediently leaned on his side, her expression changing faster than flipping a book.
Only after Adams and Vicky took their seats did Eliza ask her, “You know Movie King Si?”
Although Adams had fallen out with Leonardo, his relationship with the Emerson family had not been exposed. The fact that Leonardo was the big boss behind Tip Top Entertainment had also not been exposed.
Summer lowered her gaze as she said, “You forgot that there were rumors about me and Adams before?”
Eliza wore an expression of realization the moment she heard that.
“Adams, I want to eat that.
“Adams, don’t drink so much…”
Once they started to eat, all Summer heard was Vicky’s coquettish voice.
However, Adams’s perpetual gentle look made Summer almost believe that the two of them were really in love.
Next to her, Eliza was also disgusted by Vicky.
Before the dinner was over, Eliza stood up and said, “We still have something to do, we’ll head off first.”
“Ms. Austin, leaving so early? Stay a while longer to chat, yeah?” Everyone paid lip service to hold Eliza back.
Summer had just followed Eliza there, so she would leave the talking to Eliza. She was, after all, only there for a meal.
She may have thought so, but the others might not.
Vicky looked up at Summer and slowly said, “You’re leaving, Summer? Do you dislike me that much? Even if the Emersons don’t want you anymore, I still treat you as my little sister.”
Everyone knew of Summer’s multiple identities, but due to Eliza, no one dared to bother her.
Vicky had beef with Summer in the past and would naturally not let any opportunity to step on the latter pass her by.
Not to mention, Summer and Leonardo were not really separated. Even if that really happened, Vicky’s words would not harm her.
Vicky had always been the kind of person who found her sense of being and satisfaction from the pain of others.
“Am I supposed to feel honored that you take me for a little sister?” Summer smiled. Her feline eyes were bright and dazzling.
Among the crowd of flowers, Summer’s appearance was still extremely outstanding.
She had not spoken since she stepped in, trying to keep her presence as low-profile as possible.
Today’s dinner was mainly for investors and those dainty flowers.
As for what the transactions were, it was clear as day.
This was their show, and Summer would naturally try to suppress her existence to avoid stealing the limelight of others.
Summer raised her eyebrows and looked at her. “Have you forgotten that Mr. Lynn has already written to the press and severed our relationship as father and daughter six months ago?”
