Her question annoyed Leonardo, so he turned around, lifted her chin, and gave her a little peck on her lips. “Here you go.”
What the hell? She did not ask for his kisses.
Leonardo looked at her, the corner of his mouth slightly curled up. He was obviously pleased to see her fleeting dumbstruck expression. He then led her forward.
Warren and Tim, who were waiting for them up ahead, greeted them as they arrived.
Summer acknowledged Tim and said “hi” to Warren. Warren returned a smile before he went off to the side with Leonardo to discuss the case.
“Due to the extraordinary nature of the case, the court will probably just sentence Vicky to three years in prison at the most.” While Warren spoke, he glanced at Summer.
Summer looked down at herself, wondering if something was wrong with her.
Before they went in, Warren took out a piece of gauze from his briefcase and handed it to Leonardo.
“Put this on.”
Of course, it was not intended for Leonardo but Summer.
“That won’t be necessary.” Leonardo frowned.
“Although you two aren’t injured and it’s an open-and-shut case, your cooperation is still needed. Would you?”
“This is silly,” Leonardo said. At first, he thought nothing of it. Then he turned to look at Tim. “Bring Mrs. Emerson back to the car.”
“Aye,” Tim answered respectfully.
“I’ll wait for you in the car.” Summer did not have to ask to know the sensitivity of her presence in court.
Vicky had been accused of attempting to cause grievous hurt. It was not that Summer’s appearance in court unhurt would in any way affect the case, it was just a precaution to avoid any trouble.
Furthermore, Warren was fastidious in his work; he would not want Summer to appear in court that way. So, the best course of action was for Summer to not enter the court.
However, Leonardo was not concerned about that. What worried him more was the Jarrett family, who might lose control and harm Summer. Since Vicky’s last attempt to kill Summer, he could not afford to take things lightly and get too careless.
That was also the reason for restricting people from entering his mansion. He wanted to prevent any situation that could put Summer in harm’s way.
Summer turned around and followed Tim. Halfway to the car, she suddenly glanced back.
Even at that distance, she could still sense Leonardo’s exceptional distinctive aura. With the exception of his quirky temperament, the man was impeccable. Sometimes she even felt like she was in a dream; everything seemed so surreal.
“Mrs. Emerson?”
When Tim’s voice jolted her out of her thoughts, she realized that she had spaced out when she looked at Leonardo.
“Let’s go.”
They then got into the car. Sitting inside the cabin, Summer gazed out at the entrance of the court building and asked Tim, “Will Vicky be convicted?”
“She will. Mr. Smith has never lost a case.” Tim sounded confident.
Summer leaned back on her seat. Taking out her mobile phone, she texted Jessica.
“It’s karma!” Jessica replied.
Right, it was karma. People who did bad things would get their dues, and that made her think of Leonardo’s mom. After so many years, finding the culprit seemed too difficult, and Leonardo had mentioned before that her murderer could be someone from the Emerson family.
Would he be in more anguish once he found them out? Perhaps she was thinking much; pregnancy was making her woolgather.
As she looked up, she saw Tim looking at his mobile phone with his head down. She leaned forward to get a glimpse and noticed the photo of a woman as well as a child on his phone.
“Tim, you’re married?” she suddenly asked in surprise.
Tim covered the screen with his hand and answered, “Yeah.”
“Your son looks so lovely. How old is he?” Summer knew nothing about Tim’s background. She just asked out of curiosity, thinking how adorable his son was.
Speaking of his son, Tim’s eyes brightened up, and a smile spread across his face. “He’s four and a cheeky little monkey.”
Summer also noticed that Tim became talkative when he talked about his son. So she kept this conversation going.
“He should be in kindergarten by now, I guess?”
“Yeah, he just started attending at the beginning of the year’s second half.”
Since the divorce, Tim had become a man with few words, and his boss was equally reticent. Now that Summer was pregnant and starting to develop an interest in kids, Tim found a common ground in his son and grew chatty. They carried on talking until Leonardo and Warren exited the court building.
“They’re back.”
Summer saw them first and opened the car door for Leonardo from the inside.
Leonardo loosened his tie after he got into the car, his expression not appearing good. Summer exchanged looks with Warren, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, but he just shrugged and spread out his hands. Judging from Warren’s expression, it did not look like they lost the case, so what happened to Leonardo?
“What’s going on?” Summer asked.
Leonardo said nothing and just shook his head.
Just then, someone knocked on the window on Summer’s side. She looked out and frowned when she saw Adams. He was still wearing that gentle and harmless mug of his. Now she understood why Leonardo had such a sour face.
She lowered the car window, but before she could say anything, Adams spoke with a smile. “Summer, I heard that you’re pregnant. Congratulations!”
“Thank you.” She showed no expression on her face.
Adams then looked over at Leonardo and said, “Leonardo, don’t forget me when you hold a baby shower.”
Leonardo shot him a cold glance but said nothing.
Summer quickly closed the window and hurried Tim to drive off. Her stomach churned when she saw Adams, whose hypocrisy was a lot more horrible than Leonardo’s temper.
“Leonardo, what’s going on between you and Adams?” Warren was the legal advisor of Tip Top Entertainment. He did not know much about public relations and celebrity gossip. Although he had gotten wind of it before, he did not know what it was all about. He asked the question there since there were no outsiders around.
“Let’s go home first,” Leonardo said.
Since Leonardo did not want to talk about it, Warren did not pursue the question further.
When Summer visited the Jarrett family last time, she had seen how close Adams and Vicky had become.
Today was Vicky’s first day in court, so Adams’s appearance was nothing unusual. However, his appearance should not have upset Leonardo so much. She had a light-bulb moment when she realized Adams was also part of the Emerson family. If Leonardo could put Vicky into jail, Adams could also get Vicky out of jail.
