Summer peeked at them through the doorway. The two pretty girls, with bloody noses and swollen faces, were still in a shouting match.
It never crossed her mind that they could be so violent. She thought that they would only pull each other’s hair, scratch faces, and do other similar things.
However, they had punched each other in the face like boxers. In the end, she had to call in the bodyguards to end the fight.
Not interested in listening to their bickering, Summer turned around and told a bodyguard, “Keep an eye on them.” She then sat in a chair in the corridor and waited for Leonardo.
Soon, a nurse came over and respectfully asked her, “Mrs. Emerson, would you like to rest in our lounge?”
“No, thank you.” She waved her hand.
…
When Leonardo arrived, Eliza and Alisa already had dressings on them. The fight may have looked violent, but their punches did not do much damage. Under everyone’s watchful eyes, they only suffered a few minor injuries. Nevertheless, they still looked unsightly with their bloody noses and puffed up faces.
Upon seeing Summer, Leonardo scurried up to her, scanning her up and down several times before he felt a sense of relief.
“How are they doing?” he asked.
Just then, Eliza and Alisa came out of the emergency room. Summer pouted in their direction and said, “See for yourself.”
“Leonardo, look at what she’s done to me,” Alisa said.
Leonardo turned around and saw a swollen face. As calm and collected as he was, Leonardo could not help but scrunch his face up as he asked with a doubtful voice, “You’re Alisa?”
“Yeah, it’s me, Alisa.” She was emotional when Leonardo uttered her name.
Leonardo took a quiet step back, looking at Eliza behind Alisa.
She was no better than Alisa. When Leonardo looked at her, though, she buried her face in her hands and turned away as if she felt embarrassed.
Noticing Eliza’s little reactions, Summer put her hand to her mouth, trying hard not to laugh.
How could Leonardo not know what was going on? It was a rivalry between the two women. Without Summer’s connivance, the two women would not have gone physical. Summer must have fanned the flames of hatred between the two of them. She may have been steady on the outside, but she seemed to be a troublemaker and a little childish on the inside.
“Since you’re fine, go home then,” Leonardo said flatly.
Alisa did not expect Leonardo to send her home just like that. Should he not seek revenge for her? Even if he was not that close to her now, they were, at the very least, cousins who shared the same surname. Eliza had bullied her, and it was only proper that he stood up for her.
“Leonardo, she—”
Leonardo knew what she was thinking, but Summer was the initiator of the fight. He could not possibly help Alisa exact revenge on her, so he looked at Alisa with a stony expression.
“Who hit who first?”
Alisa feared him, and now she was getting stared down. “It was Eliza,” she said, quietly shooting Summer a threatening look.
Finding it amusing, Summer chuckled. She then looked at Alisa with a half-smile, wondering why she was all brawn and no brain. Even a woman like Eliza, who wanted to seduce Leonardo in her house, seemed to be much smarter than Alisa.
Noticing Alisa’s little trick, Leonardo sneered, “Go home on your own, and don’t come to my house next time.”
“Leonardo!” Alisa looked at him in disbelief.
“Aren’t you leaving? Or would you prefer that I call Grandpa?” Leonardo frowned harder, starting to lose his patience with her.
Alisa saw his darkening face and dared not say a word. She just shot Eliza a look before she left. After that, Leonardo held Summer’s hand and brought her out of the hospital.
They were talking at the front while Eliza and the bodyguards followed. Summer only realized once they were out of the hospital that Eliza had not said a word since Leonardo arrived. She glanced back quizzically and saw Eliza was staring at her strangely.
Why was she staring at her? Did Eliza not want to seduce Leonardo? Should she not have stared at him instead?
Her eyes inadvertently met Summer’s, and she looked away awkwardly. Following that, she got into the car with the bodyguards, her head remaining low the entire time.
Summer also got into the car, her brows knitted in a frown. When Leonardo helped her buckle up, he asked, “What’s wrong?”
She opened her mouth but did not know how to tell him. In the end, she just shook her head. Leonardo put his hand on the backrest behind her and looked at her expressionlessly. “You were causing trouble!”
“They were the ones who started the fight,” she retorted.
She knew she had not gotten a good handle on the situation, but she would not admit to abetting the brawl. No way, not in this life. She just failed to stop the fight, she did not incite it.
She was expecting Leonardo to preach to her, but to her surprise, he leaned over and gave her a gentle kiss on her forehead. Then he patted her on the head as if he was coaxing her.
“As long as you’re fine, you can be a troublemaker all you like.”
“What?” She looked over at him.
He then patted the top of her head. “We’re heading to the court now.”
“Okay.” She touched her head. After a while, she asked, trying to sound him out, “You mean I can do whatever I want in Hoover City?”
“You can even be carried around on a litter if you want,” he said without looking at her.
His words were not meant to be taken seriously, but the way he said them made it seem like he was serious.
“I can do whatever I want?” she asked again.
Leonardo said nothing, so his silence was taken as consent. When they arrived before the court, he added, “It was my fault last time.”
Summer thought she had misheard him.
“Can you repeat that?”
“Let’s get out.”
He helped her to undo her seatbelt buckle and then got out of the car. She followed closely, pestering him to repeat those words. She had to record them, otherwise, she would not believe that Leonardo was apologizing to her.
