Summer instructed the bodyguards. “Bring her to the hospital.”
The bodyguards did not move but glanced over at Leonardo, who then glanced back at them.
“Didn’t you hear Mrs. Emerson? Bring the woman to the hospital!”
Upon hearing her that, Summer looked back at him. Still sitting on the chair, Leonardo looked down, his emotionless face giving no hint of what he was thinking. She wanted to say something but could not find the words.
She had guessed it before that Vicky was probably the perpetrator of the staged accident. After all, Vicky was the only one hating her so much and wanting her death. And this was not the first time Vicky was trying to kill her. She had also guessed that Leonardo must have known the person behind this and that he would not let Vicky off. But by the time she saw with her own eyes how Vicky was tortured, she still could not help but feel a chill run up her spine. No one could stand the horror and pain with their flesh cut out from their body bit by bit. Let alone Vicky.
“Aye.”
After getting the nod from Leonardo, the bodyguards held up Vicky and brought her to the hospital. Knowing the time of day, Tim also followed them and left, leaving Leonardo and Summer to themselves.
The bright room still stank of blood. Summer turned around and saw on the floor a few slices of flesh cut down from Vicky’s leg. Her stomach churned. She covered her mouth and bent down as she retched.
Leonardo got up, went up to hold and pat her on her back, frowning. “Let’s get out of here.”
She could stand it no more and followed Leonardo out of the room.
Holding Summer beside him and opening the door, Leonardo saw Adams standing outside. Leonardo did not know how long he had been there. Adams was wearing a black business suit with a white dress shirt underneath, looking gentle and elegant with a usual gentle smile on his face.
Summer liked Adams’s movies and was his big fan because of how gentle and kind-hearted he looked. But now she was disgusted at seeing him.
Adams’s eye darted between Leonardo and Summer before he spoke. “Leonardo, thank you for letting Vicky off.” His voice was still as gentle as ever as if nothing had happened before.
Summer frowned, knowing that Adams said this to agitate Leonardo. She turned around to hold Leonardo’s hand and then looked at Adams coldly, “Vicky will get her dues, and it has nothing to do with whether we let her off.”
“You are right, Summer.” Adams let out an even creepier, bigger smile. He then switched the conversation around. “This must be your first time seeing how Leonardo does his stuff. It might be a little ruthless, but he did it for you. Don’t get frightened by him.” There was full of malice behind Adams’s smile.
Summer was just an ordinary girl before she married Leonardo.
Not that she was pampered. But the grossest thing she had ever seen was accidentally cutting her finger with a kitchen knife, which was incomparable to the brutal stuff Leonardo did.
Adams had met Summer enough times to know her well. After this incident, she would be terrified of Leonardo. Or so he thought. But little did he know that Summer knew Leonardo as a smart and a ruthless man from the very beginning. So it did not matter what Leonardo did, Summer would not react as what Adams thought she would, which was getting frightened, though she would be surprised. Deep inside, she might have a slight fear of Leonardo, but it was not what Adams thought.
“As you said, Leonardo did this because of me, so why should I be afraid of him? I couldn’t love him more.” She chuckled, her tone of voice sincere.
Adams did not expect Summer would have responded this way. His expression changed, face cold as he spoke. “Really?”
“Yeah.” Summer cocked an eyebrow, looking at Adams provocatively.
“Let’s wait and see,” Adams said, twitching his mouth. After saying that he wanted to, he turned around and left.
Summer felt relieved and kept going. But the man beside her held her back. She turned her head and saw Leonardo staring at her. His eyes lit up as if two little flames were dancing in his eye sockets.
“What’s wrong?” Summer frowned.
“Say that again.” Leonardo clenched her hand in his, his voice unusually gentle.
Say that again? Summer thought for a moment, then repeated. “What’s wrong?”
“The one before this one.” Leonardo showed a lot of patience with her with even anticipation on her face.
“I’ve said many things just now. Which one are you talking about?” During the confrontation with Adams, she just said whatever was on her mind. She did not really know which sentence Leonardo wanted to hear.
Pursing his lips, Leonardo looked as if he was a little disappointed. But the next second, he clutched his face and kissed her.
Her reaction was getting conscious that they were still standing in the corridor in front of the room. She did not like the idea of kissing in public. Besides, she and Leonardo were still at war, sort of.
But Leonardo did not care about that. His kisses were gentle yet domineering, sucking her lips bit by bit as he upped the ante by slipping his tongue slowly into her mouth until she felt weak at the knees. At last, he pulled away from her mouth. As if he did not have it enough, he gently tapped her lips with his finger before giving her a peck on the lips.
Summer panted and looked up. For the first time, she saw his dark eyes twinkling like the stars. She was puzzled; what had she said that made Leonardo so happy?
Could it be: why should she be afraid of him? Probably not. She used to see how Leonardo killed the two abductors. She was not afraid of him, and there was nothing special about his reaction then. So this was not it. The sentence after this one was…
The penny dropped, and she realized what she had said before; she now felt she was on fire.
She was a protective person underneath, especially of the person she loved. No matter what disagreement was there between her and Leonardo, and how angry she was with him, she could tolerate others talking bad about him.
