Chapter 217 Still… Alive?

Book:CEO's Substitute Wife Published:2024-5-1

After Summer hung up the phone, Leonardo asked, “Still going to the Golden Cauldron?” His undemonstrative face was taut as if he was not too happy.
Now that she was pregnant. Should he not be happy? Why was he showing this face again?
“Yeah.” Summer lounged on the seat, head tilted to one side. She had told Jessica to meet at the Golden Cauldron, and since they were already here, they would have to meet.

In front of the Golden Cauldron entrance.
Before Summer got out of the car, she had spotted Jessica’s car. Taking out her mobile phone, she called Jessica. “Get out of the car and go inside. I’ve seen you.”
The next moment, Jessica opened the car door and got out of the car, armed with sunglasses and a mask. Summer and Leonardo went in after her.
Once inside, Jessica took off her mask and sunglasses. Looking back, her eyes brightened up when she saw Summer, and she ran toward her.
“Summer, you…” She suddenly paused when she saw Leonardo, who came behind Summer and greeted him with a hint of resentment.
Leonardo acknowledged her with no expression on his face. Looking over at Summer, he said, “You two go inside the room first.” And without waiting for her response, he turned around and walked away.
After Leonardo left, Jessica only breathed a sigh of relief. “What’s going on? Did he not want a baby last time? Now you are pregnant, yet he doesn’t look too happy.”
“I have no idea. You know, a man with a mind harder to understand than that of a woman,” Summer spread out her hand, “how on earth could I know what he is thinking?”
Jessica was transfixed for a second before she turned around to study Summer. Seeing her nonchalant expression, she sounded her out. “Big Boss hasn’t made up with you?”
“What problem do we have?” Summer asked back.
She and Leonardo had a problem, which was about Adams. It was not something that was unresolvable. But now things were more complicated.
“I can’t tell why. I just find you two strange.”
Summer’s lips curled up, head lowered to hide the emotions in her eyes.

After parting with Summer, Leonardo went straight to his private suite in the Golden Cauldron. The bodyguards, brought by Tim and standing outside the suite, bowed and greeted him. As they opened the door, Leonardo stepped in. Inside, Tim bowed in respect when he saw Leonardo come in.
“Where is she?” Leonardo scanned around but saw no one else there.
Tim walked toward the corner and dragged the woman, curled up under the table, out and in front of Leonardo. Earlier, Leonardo had ordered for the perpetrator to be apprehended. The car did not hit Summer or Leonardo but crashed into the guardrail at the carpark. The front part of the car was deformed, and the driver was severely injured. The woman’s face was covered in blood, hair stuck together like ropes as blood had dried on it. Even so, Leonardo still recognized her in the first instant.
“Vicky, long time no see.” He took one step forward, his savage eyes on her, voice creepy as if he was the king of hell crawling out of the underworld.
Vicky shuddered, her voice disjointed. “I… Sorry… I… you… Summer…” She looked up at Leonardo, eyes filled with fear, begging for her life. But she was tongue-tied because of extreme fear.
Leonardo was unusually patient. The only other person toward whom he was this longanimous was Summer. He said nothing, just watching as Vicky shuddered and spoke incoherently. He was cold and unconcerned.
After two minutes or so, he seemed to have lost his interest. Motioning his bodyguard, he said, “Get the knife.”
Vicky heard that and shuddered big time. But miraculously, she got her words organized.
“I’m sorry… There won’t be next time… I won’t bother Summer again… Please let me go. I beg you. Please let me go…” She lost so much blood that she became lightheaded. Now she seemed to be fully alert.
“Not to worry.” Leonardo squatted down in front of her, gazing at her with his dark eyes. “You wanted to kill Summer, but I won’t be as ruthless as you. I won’t kill you.”
“No!” Vicky was scared out of her wits, begging. Leonardo would not kill her, but he would do something worse than kill her.
“It’s not the first time. Just get used to it.” As Leonardo stood up, a bodyguard brought a chair and put it behind him. He sat down.
Like always, Vicky was wearing stockings and a dress. The bodyguard held a knife and swiped across her leg, cutting open the stocking.
Vicky was wide-eyed, twitching her body. “Please, no! Please don’t do this! Aah!”
Using the knife, the bodyguard started to slice through her lower leg, one piece at a time.
Domineering and spoiled since she was small, Vicky would not stand this kind of torture. The last time she lied in front of the media about the certificate of marriage only because Leonardo had used the same intimidation and threat against her. It was just too easy to deal with brainless people like Vicky.
She was screaming, and Leonardo said nonchalantly. “She is too noisy.”
After that, her mouth was stuffed with things to shut her up. Now there was only some muffled whimper coming from behind her mouth.
Tim stood by, his face twitching at seeing the gruesome scene before turning away his head with his lips pursed.
Just when Vicky was about to pass out from the excruciating pain, the door suddenly swung open. Tim’s heart skipped a beat. Who the hell was barging in just like that?
“Leonardo!”
Tim uttered ‘Sh*t!’ in his mind upon hearing the voice. Except for Summer, no one else would dare call Leonardo by name.
Summer barged in and ran toward Leonardo, in front of him was Vicky, who was on the verge of passing out. She saw Vicky at once.
After the ‘accident’ and being scared of the daylights out of her, Vicky was nearly a basket case now. Equally shocked was Summer. It was only after a few seconds that she asked the bodyguard, “Is she still… alive?”
The bodyguard nodded like a robot and answered, “She is still alive.” After that, he glanced cautiously over at Leonardo, who had not said a word since Summer came in.
