Chapter 219 Abetting

Leonardo had asked her to say the sentence again. Probably this was the one: I couldn’t love him more.
Why on earth did she even say this? Why did she say such a thing in front of Leonardo? Kicking herself for saying that, she flung his hand away and walked ahead.
He caught up with her and held her hand with a smile in the corners of his eyes. “Take it slow.”
“I like to make it quick.” Summer tried to shake his hand off again but failed. She could only let it be.
As they went around the corner of the corridor, they saw Jessica.
Jessica saw Summer and came down on her like a ton of bricks. “Summer! You’re not one person anymore. Can’t you make me less worry about you? You went to the ladies’ room for like an hour and didn’t pick up my call. You were…” The words choked in her throat halfway when she saw Leonardo. She frowned and cleared her throat, and miraculously, she suddenly became soft-spoken. “Please don’t do this next time, sweetie.”
Summer got goosebumps on her skin. “Am I a ghost if I’m not a person?”
“You are not one but two.” Jessica broke into a half-smile. She just wanted to have lunch with Summer, but dramas came one after another to spoil her mood.
The three of them returned to the private dining room and finally had their lunch.
Jessica asked Summer, “Where have you gone halfway in the ladies’ room?”
“I bumped into Leonardo. He said a few elders from the Emerson family were here, so I thought I should go say hi.” Summer looked down, lying like a rug.
Leonardo glanced at her but said nothing.
“Ahh, no wonder.” Jessica believed her without a doubt. After dinner, it suddenly crossed her mind that Leonardo was the heir to the Emerson family. Other than his father and grandfather, who else did he want Summer to meet? Perhaps it was Grandpa Emerson.
Both of them were silent on the way home. Just about arriving home, Summer suddenly said, “I bumped into Adams as I came out of the ladies’ room. He said he had not been able to contact Vicky for a day, that judging by her impetuous character, she had probably fallen into your hand.” The rest was history.
Summer had suspected earlier that Vicky could be the perpetrator, and judging by the way Leonardo ran things, Vicky must have been in his hand, and he would make sure she suffered. Her suspicion turned out to be true. Had she not gone to look for her, Vicky would have still been being tortured now.
After hearing what she said, Leonardo asked, “Adams looked for you?”
“Yeah.” Puzzled, she looked over at him.
As the car was driving uphill on a winding road, the treeline on both sides of the road flew past at top speed and faded into the darkness behind them. Despite the darkness, Summer could still vaguely make out the bitter expression on Leonardo’s face.
Leonardo could have killed Vicky. This was her biggest fear and the only thing in her mind at the time. A chill ran up her spine when she thought of what Leonardo had said ‘Adams looked for you.’
After Vicky crashed her car and before the crowd had formed, Leonardo had made a call and sent her to the hospital. Considering how careful Leonardo was, that call must be the order to apprehend Vicky. He did nothing by halves.
Vicky was badly injured at the time. Leonardo’s men must have gotten to the scene and picked up Vicky at once. They kept a lid on it so the Jarrett family did not know about her capture even after a day.
It was Adams who first came to look for Summer, and that made the entire thing clear.
Adams abetted Vicky to hit Summer with a car, then bided his time to see Summer witness the cruelty of Leonardo. It was not seamless, but if Summer was any timider, it would strike fear in her and draw a bigger wedge between her and Leonardo.
However, what would Adams gain from this? Or was it because he was jealous of Leonardo and trying to agitate him? But she knew Leonardo well, and Vicky was no saint either. She did not agree with what Leonardo did, but she could understand him.
A thought crossed her mind, and she looked over at Leonardo. “Did you use the same method to coerce Vicky to make a press statement regarding the certificate of marriage?”
Leonardo nodded.
She sighed softly. His motive was good, but his violent method was not exactly the right way to solve problems. Thinking for a moment, she said, “I know, some people just don’t listen to reason. But an eye for an eye isn’t the only way.”
“I only use the most effective method,” Leonardo said without looking at her.
“So when you wanted to impregnate me, you just held me in the mansion?” She did not know whether to laugh or cry. After she said this, the air in the cabin suddenly became still.
The car came to a halt all of a sudden, jolting Summer forward. In a split second, Leonardo leaned over and hugged her in his arms, preventing her body from going forward.
“Are you all right?” His voice was a little unsteady.
She pushed him away, opened the door, and got out. Their car just stopped a dozen meters from the mansion. The moment she alighted, she saw a few cars were parked up in front of the entrance.
The family members had come? Ignoring Leonardo, she went straight into the mansion.
The moment she stepped through the doorway, a row of bodyguards bowed and greeted them. Ava scurried out and said, “Grandpa has been waiting since afternoon.”
What brought Grandpa Emerson here? Summer looked over at Leonardo quizzically.
He looked at her with a knowing expression. “The hospital where you did your check-up belongs to the Emerson family.”
It hit her that Grandpa Emerson must have gotten the wind of her pregnancy and that was why he was here. It all made sense now.
Hearing the voices outside, Grandpa Emerson came to the door. “Don’t stand in the courtyard. Get in at once. It’s freezing out there!” he said with a forceful voice.
Summer glanced at Leonardo before running ahead toward the entrance.
“Summer, take it slow!” Leonardo followed her with a frown.
Charlie saw Summer and hurried her inside. “It’s cold outside. Get in quickly. It’s so much warmer here.”
“Grandpa, I’m not cold.” Summer gave him a smile.
“Mrs. Emerson,” the maids, lining up inside the living room, greeted her.
Summer was stunned. So many maids?
