Summer was in a good mood the whole day, knowing that Jessica was coming back. It had been a busy day in the office, and Vicky had not bothered her so far.
That was a good thing.
Once she was off work, she called Tim, informing him not to come because she had a date with a friend. When she walked out of Jarrett Group, she suddenly realized that she needed to cook dinner for “Douglas”.
Standing by the roadside, she took out her phone and called “Douglas”. The phone rang once, and it was answered.
“Anything?”
His voice was low, but it sounded more charming than it did in person. Summer was still a little mesmerized by it, though she had heard it half a million times.
“Are you coming home for dinner tonight?” she asked.
“If not?” he asked back.
Summer explained, “I’m having dinner with a friend tonight.”
There was a pause before Leonardo replied coldly, “Jerome?”
Summer smirked. This man is sick. “It’s a’she’!” She gritted her teeth, “I know I’ve promised to make you dinner, but I’m not a maid. I have my own life and friends.”
Changing his tone of voice, “Douglas” said, “I see. Enjoy yourself, then.”
As the line went dead, Leonardo glanced over at Carl. “Did you just say there’s a business dinner?”
“I thought you weren’t going?” Carl looked at him in surprise. The guy had wanted no entertainment before.
At the side, Warren had already put two and two together.” His wife’s not coming home for dinner tonight.”
“Just shut up.” Leonardo shot him a look, and Warren silently went away.
…
When Summer arrived at the Golden Cauldron, she did not see Jessica anywhere around the restaurant. As she was about to call her, a woman, nearly covered from head to toe, walked toward her.
“Jessica?” However, Summer had doubts about her.
“It’s me.” Jessica took off her sunglasses, anxiously checking her surroundings. She then dragged Summer toward the entrance and asked, “You think you can go in there?”
Jessica knew that the Golden Cauldron was one of the most exclusive clubs and restaurants in Hoover City. Privacy was a top priority, so no Tom, Dick, and Harry could enter.
“Of course. I’ve been here before.” Summer nodded.
As they approached the entrance, the guy at the door saw Summer and greeted her with a loud and passionate, “Welcome”-it was a lot more passionate than her first visit. Once they were inside, Jessica took off her sunglasses and scarf, which had been wrapped around her face, scanning Summer from head and toe.
“I’ve only been away working for a short while and you already look like… another person!”
Jessica and Summer had known each other for many years. However, most of the time, Summer only showed her “ugly side”, which she had been used to. The last time Jessica returned to work again, she already knew that Summer had become prettier and that she had just restored her original looks. Yet, even after that short while, she found that Summer had seemingly gotten an “upgrade” in terms of her aura.
As they entered the elevator, Summer looked at her own reflection in the glossy elevator walls and said, “I still look the same as before.”
Jessica stood beside her and suddenly said, “Why don’t you become an actress? I bet you’ll do better than me.”
“It’s a complicated world. Not my cup of tea.”
…
They found a spot and sat down before the waiter took their order. Following that, Summer got to her feet and went to the washroom. After she washed her hands, she got back out, walking with her head lowered as if she was thinking about something. Just then, she collided into someone in a corner.
“I’m sorry,” she apologized.
The man she collided into was tall. He said nothing, and Summer became curious. She looked up at him only to find that she was gazing at the gentle face of Adams. He looked back at her with a refreshing smile. “Hi, Summer.”
Summer was nearly overwhelmed with excitement. “You’re having dinner here?”
Hoover City was a large city. She had never dreamed of bumping into Adams, let alone twice in such a short time.
“Ya, I’m here with my friend.” Adams nodded. “How’ve you been recently?”
He had read the news about her and Leonardo’s cousin.
He did not know how many distant cousins Leonardo had. However, he knew that Leonardo only had one close cousin, who was his younger brother, Douglas.
His mother was Leonardo’s aunt-from the father’s side. His father’s last name was Si, and so was his, but his younger brother took his mother’s last name. The thing was, his younger brother was only fourteen, living with his mother abroad.
“I… I’m fine.” Summer had no idea why Adams asked her that, but she found him familiar. She seemed to know him.
“That’s great.” Then Adams did not say another word again.
Back at her table, Jessica put her phone before her as soon as she sat down. “Summer, I just saw the best actor, Adams’s Weibo post. Look closer, is the background of the photo the Golden Cauldron?”
Summer looked at Adams’s latest post. The photo had apparently been taken in the Golden Cauldron, but it did not come as a surprise because she just met him minutes ago. Seeing the unruffled expression on her face, Jessica patted Summer on the shoulder.
“Don’t you feel excited? You could bump into him if you take a stroll outside.”
“In fact…” Summer paused. Fearing that Jessica would not believe her, she made herself look as serious as possible. “I’ve met him twice, and the latest one happened near the washroom here.”
Jessica was surprised with her mouth wide open.
Not far away, Adams made a detour to the main dining hall, spotting where Summer was sitting. Opposite her was the actress whom he had worked with once.
…
Leonardo and his mates had arrived at the Golden Cauldron. As they went into the elevator, he received a notification from his card company. Summer was using his card?
Carl’s keen eyes had spotted the message’s contents and the subtle smile on his face. He was puzzled. “You must be mad-someone’s spending at your expense but you’re smiling.”
Leonardo looked at him. “At least she’s willing to use my money. Has Jessica used yours?”
Leonardo got him on that one. Carl could nearly feel the pain in his heart. Looking at the four-figure payment, Leonardo had an even bigger smile on his face. However, in Carl’s eyes, his smile was evil.
There was a “ding”, and the elevator doors opened as it stopped. The moment Leonardo looked up, he saw Summer standing outside. She looked surprised as she said, “How come you’re here too?” It was as if everyone had a date with one another in the Golden Cauldron.
Seeing that Jessica was there too, Carl shoved himself up to her, sounding like a pug trapped in a man’s body while calling out, “Jessica!”
Jessica glared at him and gave him some “good news” by stomping on his toes. A scream of pain ensued.
