The journey through the dawn secret tunnels had ended, as Ava now stood with Cian in the middle of the packhouse underground, all that was left to do was climb to the surface through a hidden manhole amongst the bushes. Earlier, the four of them had agreed that Nani and Kiara would make their way through the front entrance, while Cian would accompany Ava through the secret tunnel.
“We’re here, Cian informed her as they’d reached. He pointed towards the exit at the end, showing her, “see the ladder at the front, that’s where you’ll climb and then voila! You’re back at the packhouse, but you have to be careful so no one will see you as you make your way up.”
“Thank you, Cian. Truly, you’ve been of so much help.”
“You really have to stop thanking me Ava, I do this because I want to; I owe alpha Lucas my life you know, there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for him.”
She chuckled, “I know… sorry, I can’t help it. Let’s climb up the ladder now.”
“I’m sorry, but this is as far as I can go with you… I have to go back and lock the tunnel gates from outside. No one must discover that I brought you through here, if not we’ll both be killed.”
Nodding, “I understand perfectly, I’ll continue on my own from now. You’ve done enough already as it is.”
“Be careful Ava. I wish you good luck on the other end.”
Sighs, “I know I’ll need it.”
After she and Cian separated, Ava continued her way up the tall ladder and just like he’d said, she’d ended up in one of the dawn packhouse courtyards located in the middle. This was an area less populated by wolves, so thankfully, she was able to sneak up without getting spotted. Now she was in, and only a short walk away from her mate’s bedroom.
**********
It was a hectic night, and Sabrina’s back tensed from flying for so long, she’s just been back from the underworld and had to consort a few demons, but it was all worth the trouble as she’d gotten what she travelled there for. In her cloak pocket now contained the answer to all her worries.
As soon as she’d returned back to the packhouse, headed towards the alpha’s chambers, she carefully removed the item from her pocket, a voodoo doll that resembled Lucas De’ Clan, this was her final chance to rid him of his life, black magic has never failed her before, and she is sure it won’t this time around.
She’d already thought out the best way to kill him using this dummy; drowning! Yes…! That will work! She’ll drown him in a mixture of her strongest liquid concussions, all of her killer potions, and she’ll boil the concussions as well to make the effect stronger! There’s no way that Lucas De’ Clan will be able to survive it, now all she has to do is to prepare her boiling pot to drown the doll in, all her items had been moved to the alpha’s quarters, so she’ll just prepare it there. It’s even good, that way, she’ll watch Lucas De’ Clan perish as she soaks the life of this doll into her flaming pot!
She has to prepare the mixture on time; Ava is coming today; she doesn’t know when but she’s sure is today. Not to worry dear Sabrina, by the time that bitch comes here, all she’ll meet is the dead body of her beloved, and then you’ll blame his death all on her! She’ll be executed, two birds killed with one stone! Sabrina thought evilly as she chuckled to herself.
**********
Ava swiftly climbed the packhouse walls from the outside as she made her way up, she climbed outside from the areas she knew that a lot of wolves would be lurking about, she had to be careful so as not to be seen, and she was successful in doing so. The problem she encountered now was that there were now two guards standing in front of the door to the alpha’s chambers. Only those guards stood in the way of her entering her mates’ bedroom.
Shit! There’s no way she can pass through without getting seen. Thankfully, the window at one end of the bedroom was open, which meant that there was more climbing for her to do, she left the front entrance and made her way to the high balcony, gently climbing down the edge before moving towards that small open window she was sure belonged to Lucas’s bedroom. The edge of the wall was a bit slippery, but she held on for her dear life, climbing until she reached the frame of the window and grabbed onto it.
Yes! Her heart rejoiced as her feet landed in a small corner of the room, all the while wondering how much of a miracle it was that no one saw her climbing those walls. Her joy stopped short the minute she saw him on that chair, looking all dried up and wrinkled. He looked weak, and starved on that chair, he was still alive, but he looked like he was already close to death, so pale and sickly, Ava could not help but burst into tears the minute she saw her mate sitting by the other window.
She ran towards him, her eyes pooled upon seeing his condition, “w-what…? What has she done to you???” She knelt in front of him so she was on a level she could see his face… so she could see him properly.
His eyes were closed, but the minute he felt contact with her hand, he knew she was there.
“Ava…” his weak voice whispered.
She grasped his hand tightly, planting a small kiss onto the back of his palm, “yes, it’s me Lucas… I’m back here for you now. I won’t let that witch do anything to you now…”
She could suddenly feel some form of weakness in her entire system. Of course, it’s the wolfsbane, it affected her in bits, but not as much as the wolf who’d been here for so long in its presence.
Something else distracted her from the wolfsbane then, it was the heat and pungent odor coming from the outer chambers, apart from the smell, the sound of liquid boiling reverberated the whole room. This place had no kitchen, so how could someone be cooking in here? She wondered as she got up, left her mate and went in the direction the smell took her.
Lo and behold! There stood Sabrina, chanting incantations, the smell belonged to the boiling mixture in her right hand, but what surprised Ava most was the green flames erupting from Sabrina’s hands like a lighter, the flames where the boiling the little pot containing the mixtures Sabrina held, and that’s where the bubbling noises came from.
So, all that Nani and Madeline said were true! The feeling of surprise suddenly twirled to that of anger as Ava spotted the voodoo doll occupied in Sabrina’s left hand. The doll looked just like her mate, and Ava didn’t need anyone to tell her what Sabrina was up to.
“How dare you, Sabrina? How dare you send me away so you can drown my mate?”
