Gift from the goddess
***THE NEXT MORNING***
Ava didn’t know why that day, but her back and legs hurt her like crazy, she’d gone round distributing food to the refugees, and she didn’t feel as fit as she used to. She didn’t know why but she always had this urge to throw up, was it the water she drank last night? Did she even go out to drink any water last night? Now she couldn’t tell the difference between her dream and reality… why was she feeling this way? What’s wrong with her? Ugh… she couldn’t do this anymore. She turned to the guard who followed behind her.
“Uhm… Devan, thank you for helping me out today, I’ll leave the rest of the work to the other guards, I’m not feeling so well today.”
Devan showed a look of concern, “Oh, sorry about that milady, is there any problem? Anything I can help you with?”
“No dear, just let the other guards know I won’t be joining them to distribute in the evening, I’m feeling sick now I and think I need to go and rest in my tent.”
“Don’t worry about that milady, you’ve done enough for today, please take care of yourself.”
She smiled in response as the guard left her. “Thank you, Devan.”
As she turned away, she heard a voice call her name.
“Ava!!!”
It was Nani’s voice.
So, she was still around. Ugh… why won’t that woman quit? She definitely wasn’t in the mood to start another argument this morning, she thought as she ignored her and continued walking her way.
Nani ran towards her, still calling after her, “Ava! I’m talking to you!!! AVA!!!” Nani, upon reaching her, then grabbed her by the hand.
Ava turned to face her angrily, “what do you want from me Nani??? I thought I told you before, I’m not going back; no matter what you tell me, so stop wasting your time trying to convince me! Its not going to work!!!”
Nani began to shed teardrops, “Ava!!! Why are you talking like this??? This is Lucas De’ Clan we’re talking about here! Your mate! Your love, Ava! Your one true love!!”
“Nani… leave me… al…” as she was about to respond in a raging manner, dizziness suddenly struck her and then Ava no longer had the strength to stand on her feet, her eyes rolled as she dropped to the ground, fainting. The last words she heard before she finally closed her eyes was Nani screaming her name and crying out to the guards for help.
“Ava??? Avaaaaa!!!!”
**********
“Ava? Ava….? The sleeping medicine should have worn off by now so why isn’t she awake??”
The whispers from Nani’s voice were followed by Ava gradually slipping back into consciousness as her eyes slowly fluttered open.
“Oh! Thank the goddess, she’s awake, thank you Kozi!” Kozi then nodded and left Nani and Ava alone. “Oh Ava…. You had me worried sick! Don’t scare me like that again!”
Ava got up from the mat, rubbing her hand against her head which hurt very badly. “W-what happened?” She mumbled.
Nani looked her, every inch of her face radiated joy, Ava wondered why she was beaming so much smiles at her.
“You don’t feel anything? You don’t feel different at all? Heavier than you used to maybe?” She asked her.
“Only a terrible headache, and my back hurts so much, apart from that I think I’m really sick, what is it?”
“Well dear Ava, I guess I’ll be the one to break the good news to you then; you’re pregnant!” Nani bounced.
Ava’s cheeks heated up, “pregnant? How is this possible???”
“You’re asking me? You’re the one who knows the different games that you and master have been playing in the bedroom… Oh, the goddess be praised! She’s blessed your union because she knows there is still hope! She’s gifted you and Lucas a young cub! This is the best news I’ve gotten today! Maybe now you’ll reconsider your decision; you can’t keep your child away from his father after all.”
Ava shook her head, “there is nothing to reconsider Nani, I told you that nothing will ever make me go back there.”
Nani’s smile suddenly turned down, “Ava… please don’t be like this, I’m begging you, if it were only you involved, I’d have understood, now there is something else worth fighting for, would you let Sabrina take away the father of your baby?”
“There will be no baby, because I am getting rid of this child!”
The words Ava let out then made Nani gasp with astonishment, it definitely wasn’t an answer she was expecting.
Ava nodded, solidifying her statement, “yes! I will get rid of this baby; I don’t want to have anything to do with that selfish bastard! Never again! He can die for all I care!”
Nani got up and took a few steps backward from her, her expression still held surprise, “now I know that this is definitely not my Ava speaking, I see the work of Sabrina here… oh! She’s taken over your mind too…. Don’t worry, I’m not going to give up on either you or Lucas. I WILL get to the bottom of this, Sabrina will never succeed! She cannot and she will not!”
She then picked up her bag beside her, before turning back to Ava, “as for you, young lady, you are not going to lay a single finger on that child’s head at all, not on my watch.”
“And what are you going to do about it? Lock me up?” Ava smirked.
“You leave me no choice, now you’ll know just how much influence I hold in the eyes of the dawn soldiers,” she then called them from outside the tent, “Guards!”
Two soldiers immediately ran inside the tent, and then Nani began to dish out orders to them, she pointed at Ava as she did so, “she’s been exiled from the dawn pack, she can be dangerous. I’m going somewhere now, put her on restraints until I get back; give her food and water, and make sure no harm comes to her! Most importantly, make sure she does not escape!”
“What?? You can’t do this to me… you can’t!” Ava screamed as the guards dragged her out mercilessly. “Nani!!!!!!”
“I don’t like to do this either, but trust me Ava, this is for your own good,” after Ava was taken away, the caretaker then put on her cloak and left the camps, in search of help from an old friend.
