Mom?
She may have never seen her mom before but looking at the woman standing in the crowd, Lenora’s gut instinct could tell that was her birth mother.
Without thinking, her feet were already moving towards that direction. However, Mark presses his hands firmly against her shoulder while saying, “Ma’am, the automobile is this way…”
He quickly let go when Lenora shot him a lethal gaze.
By the time Lenora glanced into the crowd, her mom was nowhere to be seen.
No!
No no, wait! Don’t go…
Lenora was already running in that direction before the driver had the chance to stop her.
“Ma’am, no!” he tried to run after her but in the end, Lenora got lost amongst the sea of people at the park making Mark curse. He ran a frustrated finger through his hair while dipping his hands into his pocket to phone Preston.
Unfortunately, even after dialling Preston’s number several times, there was no response. It wasn’t on purpose since Preston was busy handling some issues to handle at that point.
“Shit!” If I don’t find Missus I’ll be in deep shit. He grits his teeth and ran into the crowd, hoping he would be able to find Lenora before nightfall.
Lenora, meantime, was standing at a crossroads, her eyes darting to each crossing to see which route her mother had taken.
I spotted her!
I’m positive I did.
Angry tears brimmed in Lenora’s eyes. She was upset for no apparent reason. She has always thought she was strong and wouldn’t be affected whenever her mother show up in her front but clearly, she was wrong!
She wanted to demand answers, wanted to know why her mother abandoned her, leaving her with those demons. She wanted to ask why? Has she ever loved me?
Memories of how she’s been mocked and bullied for not having a mom suddenly flooded her mind making her clench her fist.
Your mom is a whore! She abandoned her child just to be with a man. A married man!
Bitch, I can make you my mistress. Don’t act like it’s a bad thing, after all, your mother is also one.
Lenora shook her head to rid herself of those awful memories.
She has never shown up in the past so why show up now?
Is she here to reunite with me knowing I’ve been chased out of the Gonzalez?
The thought brought an evil smirk to Lenora’s lips. She wiped her tears and slowly made her way into a cyber cafe nearby.
Heads turned to look at her as she waddled in. Why? Her clothes were drenched from head to toe. Two, she was barefooted, and lastly, her long, dark hair, which like a curtain, covered her small heart face so that no one could see it… She was exuding the aura of a rich person, her features were exquisite but no one dared to go near because they didn’t know if she was crazy!
The onlookers couldn’t help but point fingers at her. “Do you think she’s insane?”
“Isn’t that a pity? She seems so pretty.”
Ha! This is new. She’s been called a lot of things but insane?
“Maybe, she escaped from a psychiatric hospital?”
A ghost smile appeared on Lenora’s lips but she quickly block them out deciding to focus on what brought her here.
“Then we should call 911?”
“Yes!”
They began pulling out their phones as they said that while watching wide-eyed as Lenora made her way to the computer.
She walked up to the person using the system, and he hastily leapt out of the chair, afraid the crazy woman would hurt him.
Lenora simply ignored him, perched her butt on the chair then her fingers began moving over the keyboard, shocking the watchers. She quickly gained access to the security cameras on the street where she last saw her mother.
It didn’t take long before she found it and played it in slow motion. Turns out her mother has been right there staring at them right from the time they arrived at the park down to the time when she spotted her.
Lenora watched as her mom covered her head with a scarf, and blended with the crowd…
She zoomed in and watched as her mother glanced back at her frantic state before entering a luxurious customised car with no plate number.
Lenora was about to track down the car to see where it went when she heard the sound of a siren from the distance.
Raising her head slightly, she found everyone at the cafe staring at her while whispering. No one needed to tell her to know that they’d called the police. Fools. Can’t they tell the difference between a mentally ill person and a sane person?
Her lips pursed in anger while she hurriedly forward the details to her email, and logged out after deleting every trace of herself.
Afterwards, she stood up and made her way towards the entrance. The onlookers thought she wanted to escape again so they directly blocked the exit way.
At that point, Lenora’s heart began pounding since the cops and ambulance has arrived. Although she didn’t give a f*ck about what these people said, it doesn’t mean she wants to get locked up at a psychiatric hospital!
Wouldn’t she make the headlines at that?
Not to mention the Gonzalez family who will let her rot there. She’s sure her cousin Lucinda will love that.
Lenora promptly made a U-turn and started in the direction of the bed.
The police arrived at that very moment, followed by nurses. “Who reported a case of an escapee?”
“Right here sir, she’s getting away!”
As they were talking, a scream came from that direction, followed by the sound of something shattering. The group immediately bolted towards that direction.
She has shattered the window to escape.
Knowing that time wasn’t on her side, she quickly climbed up, ignoring the shards that pierced her hand. Her movements were fast and slick.
“Stop right there!”
Lenora didn’t glance back, she jumped right out. Just as she was about to run off, someone unexpectedly appeared behind her, placing a taser on her neck. The sudden electronic shock zapping through Lenora made her stiffen-sizzling seconds later.
She didn’t even have the time to react because she found herself falling. The person held the Taser until she was seconds from losing consciousness.
Lenora realized she has been cornered!
Soon nurses came rushing to grab her making her heart sink.
Damn it! I’m not insane!
… was the last thing she thought before everything went black.
