Lenora wasn’t simply staring at him. She was glaring! If looks could kill, he would have found himself in Sambisa forest experiencing death a thousand times.
“We were being followed.” he did not regret kissing her though. His desire to savour her in every manner was fueled by how soft her lips were. To make her his… His eyes gleamed with a possessive glint.
Lenora’s anger spiked when she saw him looking at her lips heatedly again. She knows what he’s thinking. Before he could notice the blush spreading across her face, she scowled at him one last time with humph, shoved him, and sped out of the car while murmuring “Perv” under her breath.
As it was one of the best parks in town, it was crowded with families, some of them enjoying picnics and conversing merrily. Lenora quickened her stride in an effort to escape both Preston and the Park.
It may sound weird but Lenora was one of the people who hate being in places like this, it reminds her of one thing she couldn’t have. A happy family.
She haven’t gone too far when Preston’s voice rang out behind her. “Wifey!”
Oh no. Not here. Please not here…
A grimace appeared on her face whilst she added her pace. At this point, people were already glancing between her and Preston.
It seems Preston hasn’t given caused he yelled, “Wifey!!! Wait up!”
She started running this time towards the fountain, where most people pause to take in the view. She glanced back and let out a shriek as she saw Preston was closing in on her.
Even though she was mad some minutes back, she couldn’t stop the anxiety that hit her nor the fun she was getting by being chased by him.
People who recognized Lenora pulled out their phones to take pictures as others exclaimed about how adorable the duo is.
“Are you still mad, wifey?!” yelled Preston.
“Stop doing that!”
Just when Preston was about to get hold of her, a gush of water sprang up in the air earning a squeal from Lenora as sprinklers showered them from head to toe.
At that point, all her anger where long forgotten, and a smile breaking out on her face as she raised her hands to touch the water. It reminded her of her favourite weather which was the rainy season.
Sometimes, she wouldn’t mind catching a cold, just walking in the rain, blocking out the world and getting lost in her thoughts until her body becomes numb.
As she whirl around under the sprinkler, Lenora felt eyes on her, heated ones. She didn’t even need to raise her head to know who was staring. Preston.
And it’s true.
He has seen her smile before but not out of sheer happiness like this. While she kept twirling, her long hair cascaded down her back, and the dark locks created a contrast against her milky white skin. The fact that she was drenched all through made passers-by stop to stare at her.
Beautiful!
She was too beautiful and she didn’t even realise that.
“Mummy, is that an angel?” a six-year-old who near asked his mother.
“No. But she looks like one, isn’t she?”
“Yes. She’s so pretty.”
Preston’s lips pursed into hard lines. He wanted to rip every man’s eyes that were looking at her, including the child’s but he couldn’t because of the hyper-realistic mask he had on.
The mask is now wet which meant it will fall off at any moment since it can’t stand water.
Although he hated the attention Lenora was getting, he had to leave. Just then, half of the mask peeled off, exposing the side of his charming face.
F*ck!
He immediately veered around the other way to leave. However, he hasn’t even taken a step when Lenora’s voice rang out, “Preston?”
He froze.
At that point, the sprinklers had stopped running which was why she called out his name. “Preston, I think we should get a house…” her voice trailed when he began walking away before she could get to him.
“Hey! Where are you going?” what sick game is he playing this time? She wondered about going after him.
Suddenly, a mob of people passed shielding Preston’s frame from her eyes, and when they cleared up, Preston was nowhere to be seen.
Huh? What just happened? He was chasing me not long ago, why did he suddenly disappear…?
Wait, he didn’t get lost, did he? Lenora chewed on her lips as she speculated worriedly.
Meanwhile, in a black Benz not far away from where Lenora was standing, Preston’s guard glanced between Lenora to Preston who had his eyes pinned on her.
“Your Hig-”
“I told you not to call me that, Arius.” Preston interrupted. Arius wasn’t the driver that brought them here but he’s one of the persons guarding him against the shadows. Although Preston has ordered him to take this period as a leave, Arius has stubbornly stuck to his side saying he didn’t trust his safety in this strange country Preston visited.
Arius cleared his throat, “Sorry, Young Master, but what should we do now?”
Preston turned away from Lenora, sat back down, and shut his eyes. Then he gave the command, “Drive.”
“To maple mansion?”
“No.”
“What about Ms Lenora…”
There was silence at first, Arius thought he wouldn’t answer but then, “She’d be fine. Now, drive.”
Arius didn’t dare to question him again, he hurriedly stepped on the ignition button and sped off into the distance.
In the meantime, when Lenora couldn’t find Preston, she sighed in resignation. The driver, Mark soon came running towards her, “Ma’am, please come with me lest you’ll get cold. You need to get changed.”
“Preston, he…”
“I’m sure he’d find his way home, miss.”
“The name is Lenora, Mark.” Despite having been called a miss throughout her whole childhood, she found it awkward. She no longer belonged to the Gonzalez family, thus she didn’t expect anyone to address anyone as such.
Just as she turned to follow the driver back, something caught her attention making her freeze in her steps. Her eyes widened while her heart began pounding fiercely. Is that…
