10: You’re fired

Book:Husband With Benefits Published:2024-6-2

Meanwhile, Lucinda took the most luxurious car to work the next day. A bright red Ferrari. Since this would be her first time acting as the CEO, she wanted a grand entrance and appearance.
On their way, the car got slowed by the traffic making her scowl. “Do you want me to be late on my first day,” she snarled at the driver via the rearview mirror. “Take a different path!”
“That-I… I’m sorry young Mistress, I’m afraid it won’t be possible as we are trapped from every direction.” the driver muttered casting an apologetic look from the mirror.
Lucinda harrumphed while impatiently extending her wrist to check the time.
Seeing that she still got some minutes left, she glanced out through the window. Almost immediately, her eyes almost popped out when she saw someone familiar.
It was Preston sitting in the car with another woman! At that point, Lenora was leaning close to Preston so as to adjust his collar but from the angle, Lucinda was sitting, it looked like the young woman was kissing Preston while he remained still.
What is this? Is Preston cheating on his wife right after he discovers Lenora has no money again?
She didn’t even have time to process what she was seeing cause her hand was already moving towards her phone. She quickly pulled it out and furiously took pictures of them with an evil glint in her eyes. This is just perfect!
Just then, Lenora raised her head to look in her direction causing her to duck down- her chest pounding hard. Funny enough, Lenora wouldn’t have seen her since the half-wounded glasses were tinted.
But since Lucinda didn’t want to take chances, she waited until their car moved forward before sitting up. She quickly flipped through the photos, her smile becoming bigger as an idea came to mind. What will Lenora do if she sees her fiancee being lovey-dovey with another woman? Would she regret getting pregnant as a beggar?
She was so proud of herself a few days back, isn’t she? Let’s see how proud you’ll be this time.
As for Preston…
Lucinda made a call right away. “I’ve got a task for you.”
“Anything for you, young miss, as long as it’s financially rewarding.”
“As long as you find Preston and bring him to me,” Lucinda man said, “I’ll transfer the money to you right now.” She texted Preston’s image to him as she was saying that. She then hung up and started humming a song.
If Preston could cheat Lenora for money, what will happen if I pay him to leave her entirely?
Fortunately, the traffic cleared up quickly, and they arrived at the office quickly.
The moment she stepped into the building, all the coworkers stood up to greet her. “Good morning, Miss Gonzalez.”
Instead of responding, Lucinda scanned the assembled audience with her head held high. She didn’t feel remorseful about taking her cousin’s place in the company, she is instead, prideful. Anyone with eyes could see that.
Right then, a skinny woman shuffled in with a ton of files in her hand, her hair all over her face signaling that she had arrived at work in a hurry. Her coworkers were aware that she had a child to care for, which is why she consistently arrived at work a little later than everyone else.
One person, though, had trouble comprehending that.
With a scrunched-up nose from distaste, Lucinda looked over the woman from head to toe. “Where did this garbage come from? Someone as filthy as you is not what our organization needs!”
“N-no ma’am, I work here.” the woman stuttered, her face flushing in embarrassment.
That seemed to enrage Lucinda more as her shrill voice rang out. “You work here?! Who permitted you to come by this hour? You are 30 minutes late!”
“I- I’m sorry ma’am, I had to drop off my daughter at school and then there was traffic.”
“You believe I am interested in your personal life? You are fired! The Gonzalez Corporation does not need unprofessional people like you.”
The woman’s eyes started to well up with tears, and she dropped to her knees to beg, “No, please don’t, this work is really essential to me. Don’t -”
Before she could finish, Lucinda already turned on her heels while making her way to the elevator. She paused and glanced back at the gathered crowd, “What the hell are you still waiting for? The show is over! Get back to work!”
Everyone threw a sympathetic gaze at Lillian and scurried off. This may be the first time Lucinda came in as the Acting CEO and from the looks of it, their days at Gonzalez Corporation are about to become difficult unlike when Lenora was their CEO. Lenora wasn’t strict, she treated everyone with respect and they loved her for it. Because of that, they always work their hardest to please her.
Lily, the personal assistant showed Lucinda to her office with a smile on her face, “How would you like your coffee ma?”
Lucinda scanned Lily’s face with a narrowed gaze, she wasn’t stupid enough to believe Lily is on her side. The fact that Lily is being nice means that she’s a professional, she’d have to test her sooner to see whose side she’s on.
“Tea. With just two cubes of sugar.”
“Alright, Ma’am.”
Until she left the office, Lily kept a neutral expression on her face, but as soon as she was in the corridor, she took out her phone and texted Lenora.
She waited after pressing the send button and waited but like always, Lenora didn’t reply almost driving her Insane. She angrily put the phone in her pocket and stormed towards the kitchen to make the tea.
Her mind, however, was restless as she thought about her old boss, Lenora. Why isn’t she doing anything to take the company back?
And where the hell is she?
At Hayes corporations ~
Lenora walked majestically into the company while ignoring Preston’s attempt to stop her. He couldn’t believe this was actually happening!
She will get them all jailed!
Preston paled slightly at the thought. Although he doubted there were any chances of that happening, the thought of spending a second in the cell made him more anxious to stop her.
However, he was a little too late as Lenora already arrived at the receptionist smiling sweetly at her. “Hello, I am Regina Rivers. I came for the interview,” she announced, her voice sounding exceptionally loud.
Immediately, Preston’s eyes shut unceremoniously as one word came into his mind. Oh, f*ck!
