“Miss Regina? Please come this way, the CEO has been expecting you.” the receptionist quickly got up to direct them.
Lenora treated Preston like air, or should he say, a complete Personal Assistant, as they were led into the elevator that would take them to the top floor. Preston tried to catch her eye a lot of the time, but it seemed like she was deliberately dodging it.
Preston felt wronged!
No one has ever treated him like that, he was slowly beginning to lose himself to anger but he knew his anger wouldn’t go well, so he took long breaths to calm himself down.
The receptionist stopped once she arrived at the floor, “Miss Clara will take it from here now.” she bowed and left.
Preston and Lenora stepped out of the elevator where a lady in her thirties strutted forward to greet them. “Hello Miss Regina, Mr Hayes will see you now.”
At this point, Rhian was elegantly sipping on his black coffee while gazing at the document when a knock sounded.”Come in!”
He muttered in a cool voice without raising his head. As soon as he sensed visitors in the room, he cautiously lifted his head. As soon as he did, the coffee spewed out of his mouth leaving him in a coughing fit.
It wasn’t because he had never met Regina River before; rather, it was because of the person standing behind her. Preston! H-his eyes!!!
Isn’t that Preston?? He looks like the Preston he knew… But Preston will never work as an assistant! Never!
Or could he be seeing wrongly?
His brows creased slightly, regardless, he couldn’t be more certain that he knew who this person was despite the fact that he looks different. Only one family in the entire globe has those vivid Azure eye colors. The family always keep a low profile, Rhian assumes that they are either higher than even the four families in Harithon which also include his family and three others or Preston’s family work for some royal clan.
He opened his mouth to speak but got a glare in return and quickly closed them. Then, as if nothing happened, Rhian returned his attention to the plain lady in front wondering what she had on Preston to make him work for her.
Does she even realise who he is? Although he has sent detectives to verify Preston’s background numerous times, they have never been successful. Other than his name, there was nothing. However, one thing is for sure, Preston isn’t someone to be messed with.
“You are ms Regina?” he questioned with a narrowed gaze.
Instead of answering, Lenora walked over to sit down. After crossing her legs, she cast a raised brow at him, “Now, isn’t that a foolish question? If I weren’t Regina, would you have consented to meet with me?”
Speechless, Rhian stared at her. No one has ever spoken to him in that manner! He has the ability to make her vanish from the face of the planet yet she isn’t afraid?
Minutes of silence passed as Rhian sat back, his interest piqued. “Fine-”
His words were abruptly cut off when Lenora raised her hand motioning him to wait. She then turned her attention to Preston, “Get me some coffee, would you? Make sure it’s sweet this time.”
Preston’s eyebrow twitched. He questioned how things had developed to the point where he had turned into his wife’s servant. It took him a minute before he turn on his heels, taking long strides as he made his way to the door.
Right before he stepped outside, he heard Lenora talking to Rhian.
“”Shall we go right to the point, please? I’ll take $500, 000, 000 to address the problems at your business. Either you pay or you don’t.”
Preston almost vomited blood. 500 million??
Yup! He has confirmed it, his wife is a thief! A criminal! The question is, why is he so proud of her? He thought closing the door behind him. Good thing he could easily escape when things go wrong.
He came across the lady that brought them in and cleared his throat, “My boss needs coffee. Make it sweet and creamy.”
Normally, most of the workers at Hayes Enterprise were all prideful people like their boss and hate it commanded by anyone that isn’t their boss. So, it isn’t surprising when the woman’s lips are pursed in distaste.
She was going to refuse, but after meeting the hard stare from him, she harrumphed and walked away to get it.
Meanwhile, in the office, Rhian laughed thinking Lenora was joking but soon realized she wasn’t when she kept a serious expression. “Are you kidding me, or what? half a billion?”
Lenora only glared at him coldly since she detested speaking in circles and repeating herself.
Rhian’s eyes also became cold. Although this woman claimed she was Regina, he wasn’t foolish enough to fork out the company’s money just like that even if the amount meant so little to him. If he’s been doing that, he wouldn’t have gotten the Hayes corporation to this point.
“100 million,” he muttered after a while.
“500.” Lenora countered.
“200 million.”
“500.”
Rhian became enraged right away. “How can I be certain that you are Regina Rivers? You could be someone else.”
“Once you accept that I am Regina, phone me,” Lenora said, losing her patience and picking up her suitcase. Rhian was left stunned as she strode out the door and said, “I have something else to do.”
Preston who was coming back with the coffee in hand paused as she walked passed him. “We are leaving.”
Blinking, he shrugged and followed after her without a word. Once they got into the car, Lenora pulled out the laptop he didn’t realise she had in the car and began typing.
A short while later, she closed it and began taking off her makeup cognizant of the fact that Preston was watching her every move.
A blush began creeping up her face once she was done taking off the makeup and still felt his eyes piercing into her with curiosity.
“What?” she finally asked when she couldn’t take it anymore.
Preston leaned closer until they were few inches away from each other before he whispered, “Has anyone ever told you how hot you are when you act bossy?”
Her whole face immediately turned pink, blushing to her ears. She might be skilled in other areas, but when it comes to the issue of man and woman, she wouldn’t know what to do. In any case, she wasn’t going to let Preston know that he had an impact on her. Wait, is she attracted to him?
Never! Simply put, this is a marriage of contracts. He helped her and she’d help him as promised, then they will both go their own way.
She cleared her throat and looked away from him making a smile appear on Preston’s face. His wife is too cute!
“So? I presume the interview didn’t go well?” Preston asked after awhile.
Lenora glanced at him a sly smile appearing on her face. “No. It’s actually the other round.”
“What do you mean?”
Before he could finish, a shrill tone from Lenora’s phone interrupted. They both looked over to see a call from an unknown number causing Lenora’s smile to widen. “It’s about time.”
“Time for what?”
“Listen.” said Lenora as she picked up the call.
