” Amelia! Wake up.” He cried as he reached for her shoulders and tossed it softly with his palms. She was motionless and he could not feel a pause. He notices the hair over her forehead was moist and getting a hold of it, he realized she had been bleeding from an abrasion on her heads.
“Amelia wake up.” He called out, this time around shrugged her vehemently till she coughed out.
” You scared me.” Are you okay?” He enquired with a touch of royalty that was as brute as it was gentle. It raised a vivid chaos in her mind but she was quick to get a hold of the situation even before his charming nature had started to dole out sense of tranquil and safety.
” yes sir.” She found herself saying as he placed her gently on the sofa. His touch had transposed her stormy eyes to a telescope as she saw nothing but a graceful star in his face.
” What’s your name.?” she asked as she lay her head on the upper part of the sofa. Maximin’s crimson lips were separated as if though he had wanted to say something before closing them again.
” You can trust me. What’s your name.” she asked again , this time around with much curiosity. She wanted to know the name of the charming stranger she had almost lost her life for_ twice in the span of two nights.
” My name is …”
” I almost died trying to save you.” Said Amelia as she found him being skeptical of trusting her.
” My name is Maximin. Thank you. Amelia.” He said , breaking his words yet defeating his will of refusing to trust her.
” Where are you from Maximin?” She asked with a mild curiosity.
” North.” He said as he gazed at her in a bid to somehow fathom if he could really trust her or not.
” Dakota?” she said and raised her brow in inquisition.
” No. Oregon. I’m from Oregon.” He said in a tone that was yet to find it’s base.
” Okay. I got some bread for you. You have loosed so much blood and need to eat. I don’t really have much here. I’m sorry about that.” She said as her face fell, showing how sorry she was for Maximin.
” I’m fine . Thank you Amelia. I’m okay.” Said Maximin and looked around in search for a stool or a chair which he could rest on. He felt dizzy and needed a rest. A sudden surge of energy had departed from his body causing him to feel numb on his feet. He had further ruptured the gash on his chest leading it to bleeding profusely.
There was only one chair In the house and Amelia was sitting on it. The only rational thing to do was to squat and catch his breath only that he was scared that of appearing weak to his host. Still standing in dizziness, the next thing he could feel was the texture of the wooden floor rubbing against his face.
” Maximin!” Amelia shouted and rushed to him on the floor.
” I told you. You needed to eat. You have lost too much blood.” Said Amelia as she held his head. His fall had summoned all the strength she needed to stand as she couldn’t afford to be weak at such a moment.
” Help me up.” Said Maximin as he panted Heavily while he tried to get on his feet.
” Oh No, please, just lie here. I will get you the bread and cook you some soup. Then I will stitch this wound of yours before it gets sore.” She said as she held his head in her alms while his back lay against the floor. He wasn’t one for bread and soups and didn’t know how he could tell her. Perhaps just perhaps, if he could find his way outside again. The scent of a gazelle had filled the air. It was something he could lay his fangs on.
” Help me up,” He muttered stressfully and made to rise on his feet. “Take me outside please.” He pleaded as he panted Heavily. His instinct to feed were becoming overwhelming and it was only a matter of time before it got the best of him.
“Please!” he groaned in compressed roar causing her to freak in fright but didn’t let go of his head.
” Okay.” She stuttered and gradually helped him up to his feet. To her_ he was as heavy ad an elephant but the fear to fail her savior had given her the strength to support him as he limped to the door, outside the cottage and on to the grasses.
As the beam of fresh air hit his forehead, he could feel the soothing relief that came with it and soon he could fathom out an edible beast in the surrounding. It’s scent had came with a dire instinct to feed. His breathing soon regularized as his energy was somewhat restored by the drive to hunt.
” Go in Amelia. Right now.” He whispered in a tone of voice that was rather beastly to her hearing.
” Are you okay? I want to stay with you ” She Stuttered.
” Thanks, but not now. It’s not safe.” He insisted.
She was silent in confusion for a short while and finally bulged to his will.
” Take care then.” She uttered in tone of lonesomeness before heading inside. As soon as she was out of sight. Maximin Dashed into the dark meadow and disappeared amidst the bushes. Some moments later, there was piercing growl of agony that stole the airwaves of the forest. Amelia could correctly tell it was the cry of a warthog which had found it’s way into one of her fathers abandoned traps. She was still wondering what fate had befallen the warthog when Maximin arrived back into the living room looking rather refreshed and energized.
” Did you hear that awful cry a beast? or animal is probably dead.” She said as she stood examining the robust look on his face.
” Yeah. Poor animal indeed. I’m ready for those needles and thread of yours. Please, do stitch me up.” Said Maximin and took off his shirt revealing his ripped body that was glorious to Amelia’s sighting. She was only six years old when her family were chased into the woods , thus the idea of having a boyfriend or being with a man was something that never lived in her head. The feeling that accompanied the sight of the half naked man in front of her, was a strange feeling which she didn’t know how to react to. One thing she knew was that she had to get a hold of her emotions before it betrayed her moral etiquettes.
” Okay.” She said and went to fetch her bag where she had all the needles, thread, soap and bandages. She turned again to peek on the broad and muscular chest of Maximin and quickly returned her gaze when she noticed he had also been looking at her as she walked. Her old fashioned and oversized clothes didn’t do much in hoarding her beauty. Even though her dressing was mediocre, they were neat and made her appear very decent. Maximin was just in awe to how the bad guys had made him stumble upon such a beautiful gem. He physique and hourglass figure had gripped his attention as she moved about. Her stormy eyes and crimson lips made her pretty face very pleasant for him to peer. Of all her qualities, it was her selflessness and empathy towards him that had swept him off his feet. He wondered how she managed to worry about his wounds as if though, they were on her body. Had he not saved her from the grasp of Wrath, he would have been forced to think she was a bounty hunter as well.
However, their companionship was still too young to conclude on her total trustworthiness. Even though they were of different species, he believed they could find a way to work things out when and only when he was certain that she was to be completely trusted.
” Come and seat on the chair over here. I will have to wash the wound with this soap” Said Amelia as she brought forth a tray containing all she needed to stitch the gash.
” Okay.” Said Maximin and headed to the chair while limping slightly on one of his leg.
” How are your wrist and ankle.” She asked in a great care and concern.
” Much better.” He replied in his normal introverted voice.
” Great,” “Place this old socks in your mouth. It will help muffle the pain and then we shall begin.” She said and made to place the clean piece of clothing in his mouth but was sent ajar by the bloody stains in his teeth. She gasped in shock as she quickly thought of running away.
