Soon she realized that there was no use hiding as Wrath had detected her and was gaining grounds towards her direction. She held on tight to her bag which was as big as a giant pumpkin, scanned the area for a while and eventually took taking run for her life relying heavily on the little luminosity the moon could afford her. Wrath was quick to spot the sloppy movement from the meadow at the radius where it had it had picked the scent and was sure it wasn’t a Gazelle. It wasted no time to growl loudly and rushed towards the prey that was trying to evade it. Amelia could hear it running thunderously after her and she knew her speed was no match for that of the bear, she also knew her sight in the dark was blindness compared to that of Wrath who seemed to gain on her with ease. Still holding on to her leather bag, she galloped through the uneven terrains of the thick forest till she stepped on a slippery object and crashed to the ground, still clutching hard to her bag. She didn’t know what had such a sloppy texture but she was very sure it was up to no good and instinctively crawled away from it.
” Holy Heaven! ” she screamed from the glittery sight of the giant boa that was swallowing a Gazelle which it had constricted for dinner. Had it not been having dinner, she was pretty sure that she would have served as it’s dinner. Amelia hurriedly crawled up to her feet and incepted her flee for survival while Wrath kept on pouncing towards her. hardly had she evaded the province of the fallen Gazelle when she the pitch darkness had made her run into a hanging branch from an oak tree. She hit her head against it and went crashing to the ground, this time around letting go of the nylon bag to hold her temple in pain. She struggled to get on her feet but found it too difficult to move her legs. She felt dizzy and could see the giant beast gaining more grounds towards her.
” help !.. Father!. Help me.” She found herself mumbling, with the last strengths in her veins. At that moment, all that played in her head was the sweet memories of her and her late parents. The time of glee when the going was good and cozy was all she could recall. She was lost in her reflective hallucination, when Wrath finally dawned over her. It’s salivary fangs had caught the ample rays of the moonlight, highlighting it’s sharp edges and it’s luster appearance. Wrath Rose up on it’s two Legs, it’s hands armed with Razor sharp claws and pounced towards the floor to grab Amelia. At that instance when she screamed at the top of her energy drained voice_ she felt something drag her away from the grasp of the beast.
” Was it death? Was that how death used to take away it’s victims.” She thought as she was dragged away from the lethal grasp of wrath. The angry bear charged towards both her and her rescuer.
” Maximin.” She muttered as the ample light dimmed over his face, revealing his well chiseled features which made his handsomeness even more pronounced than it should be. Very quickly, Maximin picked up Amelia, placing her against his broad chest which was drenched in blood. The coldness of the blood and the heat in his heart bore a contrast that brought her back to full consciousness.
” the bag.. please take the bag over there.” She spoke at the top of her voice which wasn’t even loud.
” Okay.” Said Maximin as he concurred with her. After all, it was the reason why she had risked her life.
Dodging the dive of the furious bear like a, he rushed to the bag which lay a few feet away from oak branch. Maximin picked it up while still holding Amelia like a baby. Before the beast could turn and make a second charge, Maximin had jumped into the thick grasses in the surroundings and disappeared from the sight of the bear who could smell nothing but wild dogs. It sniffed the air in fear of having brought itself to the territories of the wild dogs. It sniffed one more time to get a hold of the prey it had been chasing all night, before running off from the fear of getting ambushed by the wild dogs of the woods.
Still feeling dazed and dizzy. Amelia sat on the chair stealing peeks at Maximin, who stood as he gazed at her in more awe than gratitude. It wasn’t clear to him why she had put her life at stake to save him when he was just a total stranger. If this was what humans do, then a large part of him was yearning to be human.
” You are bleeding.” She said as she sat up on her old sofa.
” I’m fine. Please . Just rest for now.” Said Maximin who now felt light headed from loosing so much blood.
” You aren’t fine. You are bleeding.” She said and rose to her feet only to take a few step and went crashing to the floor. She was motionless like a corpse causing the weak werewolf to sprang to his feet in fear.
